To think the McCanns are being almost tortured by the media and the police?

See screengrab.

I said several days ago (on a thread here) that the letter was probably sent c/o Scotland Yard (and I wasn’t the only one to think so). If I can work that out why can’t the collective brains of German and U.K. detective teams PLUS dozens of European media outlets figure it out?

Why couldn’t Scotland Yard find a missing letter about a high profile, serious crime in their own building FGS?

How long has the delay been? Four or five days? This is cruel.

They need a new liaison officer now and the police need to pull themselves together.

To think the McCanns are being almost tortured by the media and the police?

I've seen their house - I used to live in a village not far from Rothley. Oh my word! You went to have a look at their house?

RedHelenB · 19/06/2020 17:45

@BertieBotts, if the burglary had happened at night when the parents were there them 1) they stood a chance of waking up and frightening them off
and 2) the apartment would no doubt have been locked, unlike on the fateful night where it was left unlocked allowing the possibility of Madeleine wandering off.

CherryPavlova · 19/06/2020 17:54

Poor, poor people. They’ve paid the highest price possible and undoubtedly have questioned themselves more than any of us have a right to do.
Nastiness isn’t in anyone’s interest. Let’s just hope they find some closure in the near future.

PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock · 19/06/2020 17:57

The social class one is an interesting point. The McCanns were obviously in hugely different positions from the people they grew up with in very poor parts of Liverpool and Glasgow who didn't later become doctors, but it's also a different experience to people who grew up with that level of money and social capital and had enjoyed access to it for more than a couple of decades.

Felifox · 19/06/2020 17:59

A letter should have been sent direct to their representative with an email copy so it could have been given to them in person.

No one disputes that they were unwise or reckless in leaving their dcs. But my goodness the price they will have paid in never having a moment's peace of worrying and fretting at what happened to that child.

ArriettyJones · 19/06/2020 18:05

I think part of the problem is they aren’t currently represented by anyone. (Not that that’s a reason to shrug and get sloppy.)

@Jkslays I totally agree with you, the parents were neglectful. We are all entitled to our opinion

@LillianGish

Leave the McCanns alone. If Portuguese police had been upfront from the start about the break-ins and attempted child abductions and previous sex attacks on the Algarve the McCanns and their party wouldn’t have dreamed of leaving their children in an unlocked apartment. They had booked a Mark Warner holiday in the belief that they were staying in a safe, family holiday environment. If Mark Warner had issued even the most veiled warning to clients - don’t leave anything valuable in your rooms, there have been a few break-ins - they almost certainly wouldn’t have done it. Instead the Portuguese attitude throughout was - don’t say anything that might put families off coming here. That’s why they started the ridiculous charade of trying to blame the McCanns - in the hope it would be swept under the carpet and the Algarve would continue to look like crime-free holiday spot. If they had investigated properly from the start then this suspect might have been picked up sooner and not gone on to commit the other horrendous crimes he is convicted/suspected of. Yes the McCanns made an error of judgement, but they did so without being allowed to be in possession of the full facts. I imagine that is what “tortures” them.
Well said Lillian

Things have clearly changed in MN(have been abroad for five years). I one said in a thread that I hoped the perpetrators would be brought to justice snd was banned for a week because the use of the plural supposedly created an inference that the McCanns might be guilty!

@MNHQ take this down now, we've got the "they drugged"'them brigade on!

Cadent · 19/06/2020 19:30

@Jkslays

They left after 48 hours after learning they were formal suspects despite pledging they would stay and clear their name

As arguidos they could have been detained indefinitely. They had 2 other kids to worry about and jobs. Doubt you would have stayed in the same situation.

AIMD · 19/06/2020 19:36

I don’t understand why the police wouldn’t have arranged for someone to deliver this news, along with the formal letter from Germany, by hand? I mean that’s not news that should be given in a letter (or by the media).

This all gives me the horrible feeling that they have images of her or her death. To be so certain with her body?! It’s just an awful situation.

I completely agree.

I don’t like the sound of the German detective at all. If this is going to be bad news, it would be good to see a more sensitive pair of hands in charge.

@MissEliza, it says a lot about you that this is the first thing that occurs to you, and none of what it says is good. Hmm

As I said, I lived down the road for years. A friend used to work with Gerry McCann at the Glenfield Hospital. He treated a neighbour of ours. You do get that they're perfectly ordinary people to whom something awful happened, don't you? That they don't live purely in Tabloidland and in the feverish speculation on Reddit subforums?

ArriettyJones · 19/06/2020 20:05

@Pedalboat that is your own post you have quoted and are replying to, not @MissEliza ‘s

Hi All,

Just to let everyone know we've had to delete a number of posts on this thread already and sadly will have to delete the whole thing if posts continue to break our TGs.

We will delete nasty parent blaming whenever it's reported to us as it's just not in the spirit of the site.

I give this thread 15 minutes tops before it's deleted. You just can't stop yourselves can you?

TerrapinStation · 19/06/2020 20:54

@Muh2020

I still can't get past the fact that they left three small children alone in their hotel room, on multiple occasions, while they sat at quite a distance away, having eats and drinks with their friends.
What is the point in posts like this? It's been said a bazillion times in the past 13 years, why does anyone feel the need to keep repeating it, what could it possibly add to any discussion?
SouthWestmom · 19/06/2020 20:56

Arietty

I think pedalboat tried to respond by quoting miss Eliza and pressed send too early. So it looks like that.
