To think the McCanns are being almost tortured by the media and the police?

See screengrab.

I said several days ago (on a thread here) that the letter was probably sent c/o Scotland Yard (and I wasn’t the only one to think so). If I can work that out why can’t the collective brains of German and U.K. detective teams PLUS dozens of European media outlets figure it out?

Why couldn’t Scotland Yard find a missing letter about a high profile, serious crime in their own building FGS?

How long has the delay been? Four or five days? This is cruel.

They need a new liaison officer now and the police need to pull themselves together.

To think the McCanns are being almost tortured by the media and the police?

This was very much what I thought, and my parents didn't even do it when we were little. But those services must've existed for a reason, mustn't they? The hotels and complexes wouldn't bother otherwise. Devising, advertising, showing new staff how it worked, all those things take resources. Why would private businesses waste their time and effort doing it if they weren't getting some return?

Bartlet · 19/06/2020 13:23

These systems did exist and many many families used them with no adverse consequences. People on this thread either never went on holiday to these type of places before the mid 2000s or have very selective memories. They were common place and it was not considered to be risky.

Cadent · 19/06/2020 13:25

Sign. Baby listening services still exist. Someone on another thread mentioned Centerparcs have them, for their cabins which are spread around a forest!

Why don't people launch a campaign to ban them instead of attacking the McCanns.

BankofNook · 19/06/2020 13:27

Centreparcs only stopped their listening service in 2017. Butlins stopped theirs in 2008. Many hotels, both here in the UK and abroad, still offer the service. These services exists because, like it or not, they are demand driven.

SouthWestmom · 19/06/2020 13:29

Any thread about them turns into this battleground. This poor child's memory is just sullied by people throwing shut at her parents. Why can't people just focus on what's happening now?

Why did JB's mum not use reins?
Why didn't someone keep an eye on BN?
Why did AJ's mum let her play out at five?

Etc. And I've used initials as I don't believe any of the above but it's so frustrating

BankofNook · 19/06/2020 13:36

I'm sure some people try to lay blame on the parents in these cases as it highlights insecurities and anxieties about their own parenting or upbringing. If the parents are somehow at fault, if they made a mistake that can be identified then these people can cling to that with the belief that if they do not replicate that perceived mistake then they/their child will forever be safe from that horrible outcome.

The only person responsible for MM's disappearance is the person who took her. You may not agree with the decisions her parents made, how they acted before or after, but they are not guilty of anything.

TurquoiseDress · 19/06/2020 13:39

YANBU

They've been tortured for over 13 years now.

Let's hope there is some definitive information forthcoming for them, whatever it may be.

The need some closure and then can start to grieve properly once they know what happened to their daughter

...and Maddie - what about her suffering?

No doubt these people having a go at people like me who do hold the McCanns to account, will have total sympathy and understanding for the mother who left her kid (to be torn to pieces) with a dog in Looe and will be campaigning to get her released because she has suffered enough.

After all we all make mistakes.

Cadent · 19/06/2020 14:19

Do you really think you are better placed to ask what about Maddie’s suffering than her own parents, @jasjas1973? Do you not see how arrogant that is?

And you know what you would do if you came across the McCanns in the street? Fuck all. Keyboard warriors on this thread.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 19/06/2020 14:42

To return to the Op, has the letter been found and delivered now?

ArriettyJones · 19/06/2020 14:48

@BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls

To return to the Op, has the letter been found and delivered now?
It’s not clear. Presumably they must have found it, for it to be reported on, but whether it’s yet been delivered hasn’t been reported.

I have checked a couple of times to see if the broadsheets have picked up the story, but nothing so far, that I’ve seen, anyway.

Why what are you expecting people to do that don’t agree with what they did? Shout and jeer at them in the street Confused

Can someone not be an adult and not have to faun all over them on the internet?

Yes it’s very admiral that some people can totally sympathise with these parents - but others don’t feel like that. Doesn’t make us keyboard warriors. This is not an echo chamber.

Teo entirely different cases with two entirely different sets of circumstances and entirely different outcomes.

But sure, don't let facts get in the way of your vitriol.

YANBU, what a bunch of assholes There are on this thread.

Muh2020 · 19/06/2020 15:16

I still can't get past the fact that they left three small children alone in their hotel room, on multiple occasions, while they sat at quite a distance away, having eats and drinks with their friends.

MissEliza · 19/06/2020 15:21

I agree with you Op. Surely the right thing would have been for the German police to contact the British police and have them go to the McCanns in person.

MadFerretWoman · 19/06/2020 15:24

What I have never been able to get over is that they left very young children alone in an apartment... that is wrong, completely wrong...
Poor child...

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 19/06/2020 15:24

I would have expected - in a world where the most sense thing actually happens (!) - even outside a pandemic, for the German police to have forwarded the details to SY, who then write the letter themselves, which is hand delivered via a FL officer.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 19/06/2020 15:26

Oh, they left the children alone did they? You'd think someone would have mentioned that, in the course of 13 years.

Narrows · 19/06/2020 15:32

Thank you for this startlingly original contribution to the topic. Literally no one has ever said or thought this before.

I'm somewhat puzzled by the references to social class -- Kate and Gerry McCann are both working class, albeit working in traditionally middle-class careers.

SouthWestmom · 19/06/2020 15:35

Beyond, I would have thought that contact with the family to say this was being announced would have been sensitive.

I wonder if that's because this time they are talking about an outcome rather than a lead that makes me think this.

chrislilleyswig · 19/06/2020 15:37

@jasjas1973 Her name is Madeleine

Not Maddie. Hun

jasjas1973, you're not 'holding the Mccans to account'. The police and social services did that some time ago. You're expressing continued anger and dislike on an online forum, which is your right, but don't kid yourself you doing anything important or meaningful or which actually benefits any child who is at risk.

What a ridiculous post. Where has this poster stated that she has?? And not sure if I’ve missed it but where has she said she’s holding them to account. Your just making stuff up. Have you been on the wine already?

I don’t think they were held to account by anyone personally.

They left their young children unattended to go drinking in a bar.

She went missing.

This neglect - which ever spin you want to put on it.

The fact kate is an ambassador for missing people is shocking Confused

It’s laughable that some one is saying they are ‘working class’ have you seen their house...
