Oh yes to Kiki! But wouldn't say no to Thorin either.

DD and I were actually watching the last Hobbit when the news came in about the death of Ian Holm. My eyes were leaking a little at the end.

PiggyPlumPie · 21/06/2020 09:07

FFS I don't know who Kiki is but I prefer Kili!

Just done a rewatch of LOTR - my god!!! I mean was Viggo even trying to be so smouldering or was it just accidental? I feel he was trying to be all noble and brave and a bit heartbroken and then on screen it just translated into a bit smokin pile of hotness!

SirSamuelVimes · 09/11/2020 10:03

Ooh yes. Definitely as dirty scruffy Strider. Not as the king at the end. Too clean.

I’d definitely be hiding his shampoo 😂

HELL YANBU! I've never seen Viggo Mortensen look as sexy as he does in that role. Love his softly spoken voice too, with just a trace of a Scandinavian accent.

I'm team Eowyn, BTW. Absolutely great character and to my mind far more attractive than Peter Jackson's Arwen, who is pretty drippy and the woman in the books is barely visible. Eowyn ends up with the right partner in Faramir, though (who in the book is one of my very favourite characters; he's a bit underdeveloped in the film but an adaptation can't do everything). Having won her valour, it's her calling to be a faith healer.

rattusrattus20 · 09/11/2020 11:04

@SirSamuelVimes - i think in the final film, especially the last scenes where he's king or whatever, just a few extra millimetres of beard length, possibly combined with the actor being a year or two older & maybe a tad greyer, makes all the difference, he's nowhere near as good.

nevertrustaherdofcows · 09/11/2020 11:26

I read somewhere that main filming for all three films took place in the same year-long burst, then the actors were called back much, much later for any finishing touches. I think this happened for the coronation scene and he had put on several stone. They have drawn his cheekbones on

peaceanddove · 09/11/2020 11:42

In the books, Legolas is very vanilla and certainly not the action hero character we see in the films.

SomewhereEast · 09/11/2020 11:43

@museumum

Is he really called Aragorn? Lol I always thought it was Aragon Blush
I have a history PhD and I STILL say 'Catherine of Aragorn' instead of Catherine of Aragon if I don't stop and think first Blush.
SomewhereEast · 09/11/2020 11:46

Yes to Team Eowyn! Arwen is very drippy in the films. I also think Faramir is under-rated hotness-wise. And I love how The Hobbit films went there with Hot Dwarves.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 09/11/2020 11:47

Ah. But does he know how to use the dishwasher? 😂

SirSamuelVimes · 09/11/2020 11:48

True. Samwise would definitely do the washing up.
Ferrero12345 · 09/11/2020 12:05

That’s interesting about the coronation scene being filmed a few years later - I didn’t know that!

See while I love Eowyn and Faramir as a couple (yes to Faramir’s hotness also - that ride to his ‘death’ 😭) I wasn’t keen on Eowyn’s blatant play for Aragorn. I felt she was a tad pushy - very kindly let down by Aragorn - he’s a gent (This may be coming from a place of “hands off he’s mine” though 😂) I need to watch the extended versions again as think their romance at the Houses of Healing is featured maybe.

I find the Hot Dwarves thing in The Hobbit ridiculous however. But I think The Hobbit was quite poor compared to LOTR - shouldn’t have been 3 films.

flaviaritt · 09/11/2020 12:27

Oh yes, he’s gorgeous.

WitchesSpelleas · 09/11/2020 12:31

Yes, he is lush indeed. The LOTR films bore me stupid, but my husband loves them and regularly watches the DVDs. I've trained him to nudge me when Aragorn is coming on Grin.

Don't really like Viggo when he's not in his Tolkien garb, though.

Notlostjustexploring · 09/11/2020 20:01

I think I still have an Aragorn poster up in what was my teenage bedroom. (I'm mid thirties, not lived there for a while!!) I'm coming over all hot and bothered by the pictures. Loved Lord of the Rings.

For excellent smoulder, I recommend Richard Armitage in North and South.

Sceptre86 · 09/11/2020 22:24

Boromir for me ( I love Sean in everything) , then Aragorn and Eomer. I like the needing a good scrub look and bearded men. I love Richard Armitage too as Thorin, he was also great in Robin Hood and I loved him in North and South too. He has such a piercing gaze.

Catwoman1985 · 09/11/2020 22:36

He is hot as Aragorn but not in real life/ other roles! It is the character I think

Phoenix76 · 09/11/2020 23:46

I’m in the Thranduil is perfection camp, honestly never seen anything so beautiful, made me question a few things about myself! Why the heck do I like “beautiful” men (elves)?

BohemianDream · 10/11/2020 00:01

Lol, I was 9 when LOTR came out and I knew then that Aragorn was the most beautiful man in the world.
But then, I was also in love with Jesus during that time.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/11/2020 00:05

I was sceptical at first, because Aragorn/Strider is supposed to be ugly, but now I cannot imagine anyone else in the role.
