Would you buy a house next to a grave yard?

Just looking for opinions on if this would put buyers off a house or not. Found a lovely property but it wouldn’t be our ‘forever’ home so would likely need to sell it at some point and am wondering if it would put the majority of buyers off or not. I’m not woo and find old graveyards peaceful. I wouldn’t choose to live next to a current one that would be different to me, but I’m fine with these old graves.

YABU - It would put me off a house
YANBU - it would not put me off a house.

Graveyards are peaceful! I would 100% live there

@BrokenBrit glad it made you smile😁

I find it almost offensive when people say they would be freaked out by it...you're not immortal or above death.

clipclop5 · 18/06/2020 21:04

Nope! I fear that my imagination would get the better of me at night!

Fink · 18/06/2020 21:04

You can definitely note my name down for a resale in 10 years' time, this sounds perfect! If the people who own the old chapel next door ever want to sell, pass them on to me!

There is quite considerable difference between being haunted and doing the haunting. Former is crap, the latter I look forward to.

I’d love to live next to an old church, graveyards (if not those big municipal city ones) are so pretty. My house is really really old. Never seen a thing

GreenTeaMug · 18/06/2020 21:05

see I must be a bit odd. I love walking home from our high street through our graveyard at night to our house. I walk the dogs there late at night and early in the monring too. I think it is such a pretty place with the very old headstones and the rest.

Wolfff · 18/06/2020 21:05

I used to work in an estate agents very near a large well known London graveyard. Some people would not buy or rent in view of it, so it is potentially a risk.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/06/2020 21:06

Oooh yes, I love a graveyard!

Jobseeker19 · 18/06/2020 21:07

I would also think k about parking and busy streets

GreenTeaMug · 18/06/2020 21:07

My DMum (who tends to be a bit boasty about things) when we bought our house regaled her sisters about how we had a wonderful view over a 'beautiful park'.
I said; 'You mean the cemetary, mum'.

She wasn't happy.

How bizarre, to be 'almost' offended (how does one manage that, btw?) by the psychological hang ups of others. Do you also get offended by people who are disturbed by the sight of blood? After all, they've got blood and they're not 'above' having it themselves...

Silenceisnotgolden · 18/06/2020 21:08

Two members of my family (on opposite sides, in completely different parts of the country) live next to, or directly behind, cemeteries. Each of them have the benefit of peace, plenty of greenery and no direct neighbours from that angle. Neither of them have ever tired to move on so I can’t comment on whether or not you’d find it easy to sell.

I’ve had plenty of bbqs in their gardens and it’s not at all spooky.

PurBal · 18/06/2020 21:10

Quiet neighbours! Yes I would buy it.

formerbabe · 18/06/2020 21:11

I don't know...I find it almost rude to dead people to be scared...I'm aware that sounds a bit Confused

TerribleCustomerCervix · 18/06/2020 21:13

An old graveyard would be fine. Very quirky and better than looking out at a row of semi detached gardens like the rest of us!

A graveyard that was still in use though, I’d have second thoughts though.

Srictlybakeoff · 18/06/2020 21:14

I live beside a graveyard. I love the fact that it means no builder will be able to put up houses behind us. It has such a lovely peaceful vibe . We previously lived in a Victorian villa and this new house beside the graveyard has a much better feeling about

AdultierAdult · 18/06/2020 21:15

It would attract me to a property, actually.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/06/2020 21:15

@formerbabe is possessed! That's a dead person speaking up about being offended!

Just voted. I would love the peace and greenness, and the feeling of a special place.

i have a cemetery behind my house. it's lovely, we walk around it every day to get the baby to sleep.

EsmeShelby · 18/06/2020 21:19

If you have a cat, they love a graveyard.

Msmcc1212 · 18/06/2020 21:20

Peaceful, green and no chance of building on. Yup. Sounds good to me!
