I can't wait to see someone in RL wear that OP.

MarieKlepto · 18/06/2020 00:42

I love the colour, have a few bits in it, it suits my colouring and because of that I don't look like a giant Brussels sprout (I have v. honest friends who have no filter without being rude!). Could work but the collar and bottom frill look a bit off kilter. However, this 70s bedspread is challenging me: www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0880716002.html

I’d actually wear the black version of that one. The pink, no, not unless I was challenging my inner Barbara Cartland. But someone with the right colouring would be ok, I think,

Tartyflette · 18/06/2020 00:55

But I remember distinctly when Villanelle wore that godawful oversized pink girly party frock in series one, Everyone (well, TV critics and, fashion victims) raved about it!
Thus paving the way for these excrescences.

GuiltyBark · 18/06/2020 01:06

I'd look like a little fat bee in that Grin

1forAll74 · 18/06/2020 01:45

Yes definitely a Villanelle type dress. I like the olive green colour, but not the dress. My cats would soon rip the sleeves off, as they have a habit of pawing at my arms when they wan't something or other. And all the bottom half would get ripped to shreds on some spiky shrubs in my garden.

Plumpi · 18/06/2020 01:57

It's ugly but isn't that the point? It's aggressive feminine, a fuck you dress.

caringcarer · 18/06/2020 03:21

Hidious and shit colour too.

EuphieKat · 18/06/2020 03:24

Oh wow...

Imissmoominmama · 18/06/2020 03:30

I voted YANBU, but I would’ve worn that in the 90s- with DMs and an attitude Grin.

Dita73 · 18/06/2020 05:06

@Merryoldgoat I didn’t say it was. It’s a question of using your imagination. Someone young in a clumpy pair of boots or something would look great in it. I think you need to change your name to GrumpyOldFart!

Graciebobcat · 18/06/2020 05:47

The clothes and shoes ads I get in the MN sidebar on the desktop site, and only there, are far, far worse than this. Sites and shops I've never heard of. Some bot somewhere thinks my style is Professor Umbridge crossed with Tubbs from League of Gentlemen.

fuuuuuuck · 18/06/2020 06:24

@Merryoldgoat I said upthread that I own the black and white one. Do you feel at all bad that you're making fun of me ? I'd never ever even consider starting a thread about this sort of thing........as I'd know that I'd be upsetting someone reading it......

DamitJanet · 18/06/2020 06:39

I really like the black one, don’t think I could pull it off though!

User24689 · 18/06/2020 07:20

😂 I knew it would be this one before I opened the thread. Did a double take when it popped up on a fb ad this morning.

Even on the model it looks mad, just trying to imagine what my friends would say if I turned up somewhere in it.

sixthtimelucky · 18/06/2020 07:24

I love it!

But alas am too old to wear it, would like an eccentric old bat.

Oysterbabe · 18/06/2020 07:38

Ah let the youngsters buy it and look ridiculous. Looking back at old photos of yourself and laughing at the fashion choices is part of life.

Ponoka7 · 18/06/2020 08:00

@Youngatheart00, I quite like the first one you linked to. It's an easy wear dress with military styling.

@sqirrelfriends, someone like Paris Hilton body type could get away with the Rodarte. It isn't elegant as such, but if you wear a lot of dresses like that, elegance must get boring, especially under 35.

Villanelle plays dress up with clothes.

Merryoldgoat · 18/06/2020 08:02

@Dita73

I’m stunned by the reactions to this. Does no one read fashion magazines or ever look at designer clothes?! It’s just the high street’s take on it. Also why the shock at £50 for a dress? That’s nothing!

The implication from this is that we’re all philistines if we don’t ‘get it’ - it’s trendy, it’s fashionable, you guys need to study the magazines dahhhhhling.

I do like the new name you suggested though. I might make that my Christmas change.

@fuuuuuuck

I’m sorry if I offended you - obviously that’s not my intention. However I’ve not said anything pejorative about the model or anyone who buys or likes the dress.

I think it’s ugly. Plenty have disagreed and that’s fine. I’m no fashion guru. But I know what I like and I don’t think there’s anything unreasonable about saying so.

It’s not like you put a picture of yourself in the dress up, asked for opinions and I said you looked awful (which I absolutely wouldn’t do).

Ponoka7 · 18/06/2020 08:09

@fuuuuuuck, if you can carry it off, wear it. I like a few dresses that people have linked on here. My DD's and their friends are in their 20's and would look good in a few of them. We all don't want to wear the standard narrow 'uniform' some people put themselves in, throughout their life. Princess Beatrice and Eugenie get criticised, but they seem as though they have fun with their clothes and hats.

Go over to Style and beauty and a lot of posters don't go beyond monochrome and navy. Floral prints have been criticised, so have tropical prints, both can look good, on the right people.

It's like not every man can pull off a pink or purple shirt. But the one's that can, tend to look exceptionally good.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/06/2020 08:23

Ooh wow that's quite a dress!

My contribution is this

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 18/06/2020 08:56

That's hideous
I think that the designer has been binging on Killing Eve during lockdown. It's a fugly version of a dress villanelle wears in that.

Those sandals are terrible too

fuuuuuuck · 18/06/2020 09:03

@Merryoldgoat you're right , i didn't put a picture up of me wearing it as it would make you feel uncomfortable. So instead I feel uncomfortable by every poster on here, slating something I wear and really like.

It reminds me of being sick at school when all the girls bitched and laughed at another girl for having her hair in a different style, or a different school bag.......really sad don't you think and not a nice feeling

BogRollBOGOF · 18/06/2020 09:07

Ooh, are ugly, comfortable sandals coming back in? Good news for my stubby, over-sensitive feet that shun style and crave comfort Grin

No wonder the High Street is slowly dying painfully. It's not Coronavirus sticking in the death blow, it's the fashion that's not worth queuing for.
