To tell teachers bashers to go and complain to their own fucking schools

Aibu to be fed up to the back teeth of ignorant comments like "do your job like everyone else" and " it's your vocation" aimed at all and any teachers who happen to be on a thread. If you have a problem with the teaching provided by your own school contact them. People commenting have no idea of the workload that the people they are trolling online might be struggling with. It's bullying plain and simple and wouldn't be allowed to be aimed at other groups.

Do you honestly believe that every single teacher in the UK is lazy? If not why not contact YOUR school about the issues you have with YOUR child's teacher instead of starting yet another general teacher bashing thread.

As a teacher on here I have to say I have never been more demotivated. I work hard for my kids at school while also homeschooling my own three like so many of us. How dare you make me feel like I am failing because you have an issues, unfounded in some cases I am sure, with your school?

They are your children take some responsibility, contact the school if you have concerns and accept that most teachers are fired for the children they each but we don't make many of the decisions. They are made at a much higher level.

@LaurieMarlow I'm not going to waste my time and energy being angry on behalf of my profession. If I did that it wouldn't be healthy. The fact that some teachers haven't been providing what some people deem to be acceptable isn't something I can control. I also can't control what the public think of teachers as a whole. It's not ignoring or denying it, it's accepting that you can only do the best for your class and school. Which I know I have been doing.
I genuinely hope that your children get the help and support they need when they do return to school.

GalesThisMorning · 17/06/2020 17:26

I'm not a teacher!!! Gladly and happily not a teacher. I think that teachers suffer enough with the reality of their profession and probably don't need to care that much about what mumsnetters think of them.

Like I said, I blame the government not my son's very pleasant but ultimately powerless teacher. Direct your ire where it belongs

Piggywaspushed · 17/06/2020 17:27

Public opinion, when measured, is very positive about teachers.

When was the last time it was measured?

I’d be fascinated to see where it is right now.

JimmyGrimble · 17/06/2020 17:28

@Playdonut

I haven't read the full thread. But teachers started this parents vs teachers war. Remember the this is not a holiday bullying from teachers to parents? Remember the actually this is a holiday bullying from teachers to parents? Remember the way you all agreed when the unions were calling our kids snotty and disgusting? We didnt start this war. We didnt want this war.
War??? Jesus! Oh it’s you donut. Unions calling your kids snotty and disgusting? Really??? Unions and teachers mentioned that children might be carriers and then the more hysterical posters took offence. Grow up. You haven’t been bullied and you’ve been rude and ignorant on every teacher bashing thread I’ve seen.
FourTeaFallOut · 17/06/2020 17:29

I hope all these people that think teachers are so awful are finding new schools or are home educating their children permanently once this is over. I couldn't continue to send my children to a school where I had zero respect for the teachers

Perhaps they just find themselves enormously grateful for a national curriculum and for Ofsted inspectors.

Playdonut · 17/06/2020 17:30

I beg to differ. I have had so much bullying from teachers both on here and in my personal life!

LaurieMarlow · 17/06/2020 17:30

We are considering our options, yes.

JimmyGrimble · 17/06/2020 17:31

As OFSTED failed it’s own inspection they’d be very unwise to trust it fourtea

LockdownLoppy · 17/06/2020 17:32

The teacher-bashing on here is relentless!!! I'm not a teacher but have been a governor for many years and I think the majority of parents have no idea of how much work teachers do. Yes, there are a few who are lazy and unprofessional but that is a small minority and the same as all professions.

JimmyGrimble · 17/06/2020 17:32

There you go then. You’re allowing your past experiences to colour your responses. Making generalisations and coming over as quite bitter and unpleasant.

I wouldn't pay much attention to Ofsted grades. They're so inconsistent.

FleurDaxeny · 17/06/2020 17:34

I hope all these people that think teachers are so awful are finding new schools or are home educating their children permanently once this is over.

you know they are not. They just want some kind of childcare, they are not that bothered about the actual education side of things.

I bet they were not that bothered about the dreadful state of education pre-pandemic, or not involved in the schools at all as long as they had a spot in after-school clubs.

FleurDaxeny · 17/06/2020 17:36

plus you don't know what Ofsted will rate, schools might end up outstanding because of the childcare provision they offered during the pandemic, or for the provision of resources that some parents judged unsuitable...

FourTeaFallOut · 17/06/2020 17:36

Ofsted grades are neither here nor there, the point being that there is at least a standard of expectation that is uniform across the country. It might now be perfect but at least there is something a parent can lay their hand on if they feel their school is failing that doesn't have to negotiate hurt feelings.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/06/2020 17:36

Not be perfect

FleurDaxeny · 17/06/2020 17:37

that there is at least a standard of expectation that is uniform across the country.

in a country where we are proud of our grammar schools I am not sure where you get that.

And let's not get started on the huge discrepancy across state schools!

Playdonut · 17/06/2020 17:37

Jimmy I'm aware teachers hate me because I have the cheek to want them to stop being arseholes on social media. The arseholeness is not part of your job, so once again, dont dish it out if you cant take it. Any teacher will tell you that parents are the worst part of the job. So stop antagonising parents on social media and find a new hobby. Your colleagues will thank you for it!

Buttercup77 · 17/06/2020 17:39

@Piggywaspushed

Actually I think you’re right. Post-Covid I was researching a few Daily Mail articles about teacher training/retention etc... and fully expected all the top comments to be anti-teacher but I was pleasantly surprised actually. Almost all of the top comments were very supportive and acknowledging of the hardships of the profession and they all agreed education is in dire need of a cash injection. It’s gone back to the usual nonsense during Covid.

There is a frequent right wing narrative of “lazy marxist leftie teachers” but actually teachers are more respected in real life than they might think by both sides of the political spectrum (it just doesn’t feel that was due to a very vocal minority bunch espousing nonsense and a big divide and conquer strategy by the government) but actually society as a whole does revere teachers in spirit. Hopefully one day that will be matched in funding! I hope that’s some comfort to teachers. Teachers are actually frequently at the top of most polls for the public perception metrics of things such as “most trustworthy” “most respected” “most knowledgeable” etc..

Oh seriously. This is such a budget comment.
Buttercup77 · 17/06/2020 17:40

sorry that was meant to say pre-Covid

Doyoumind · 17/06/2020 17:40

What makes you think we haven't spoken to the school OP? I'm glad people have posted about their experiences. It has confirmed to me that my dc's school has performed very badly in comparison to many. I have not suggested it is the fault of the individual teachers but of the leadership.

tisaginthing · 17/06/2020 17:41

Playdonut nobody hates you? We don't know you...try not to get so wound up over strangers on the internet.

hibbledobble · 17/06/2020 17:42

I think people are misdirecting their frustrations as home schooling, particularly while working and/or looking after other children, is really hard. Also without an understanding of all that teachers are doing currently, they may be thinking that teachers are currently having a jolly, rather than working from home.

To be fair as well, some schools are doing a terrible job at supporting home learning, and many parents have fed back to the school. Parents certainly have at my kids school (after the school thought one worksheet a week was sufficient!).

Piggywaspushed · 17/06/2020 17:43

I can guarantee that the public opinion of teachers now is higher than the public's opinion of the government laurie and the public trust in politicians, who routinely come bottom of any poll.

It was last measured ,that I know of , at the end of 2019 and teachers came out as the 2nd most trusted profession. I'd like to think people still trust us with their children and to do the right thing, therefore.
