AIBU?

To tell teachers bashers to go and complain to their own fucking schools

Frozenfan2019 · 17/06/2020 12:07

Aibu to be fed up to the back teeth of ignorant comments like "do your job like everyone else" and " it's your vocation" aimed at all and any teachers who happen to be on a thread. If you have a problem with the teaching provided by your own school contact them. People commenting have no idea of the workload that the people they are trolling online might be struggling with. It's bullying plain and simple and wouldn't be allowed to be aimed at other groups.

Do you honestly believe that every single teacher in the UK is lazy? If not why not contact YOUR school about the issues you have with YOUR child's teacher instead of starting yet another general teacher bashing thread.

As a teacher on here I have to say I have never been more demotivated. I work hard for my kids at school while also homeschooling my own three like so many of us. How dare you make me feel like I am failing because you have an issues, unfounded in some cases I am sure, with your school?

They are your children take some responsibility, contact the school if you have concerns and accept that most teachers are fired for the children they each but we don't make many of the decisions. They are made at a much higher level.

Jimmy I'm aware teachers hate me because I have the cheek to want them to stop being arseholes on social media. The arseholeness is not part of your job, so once again, dont dish it out if you cant take it. Any teacher will tell you that parents are the worst part of the job. So stop antagonising parents on social media and find a new hobby. Your colleagues will thank you for it!

I think most teachers will say that the government cuts, constant hoops to jump through and having to spend their own money on classroom resources are the worst part of the job.

I have wondered if some of the more 'militant' teachers posting are actually BJ cronies. As they seem to be determined to lose the support of working parents. The teachers I know are all hard working people, who enjoy their job and the kids and are desperate to get back into the classroom. They acknowledge online learning isn't a solution. That is not what I read from teachers on here, who seem to have a can't do attitude.

It makes me wonder why a profession would want to lose the support of the taxpayers who ultimately decide their wages and conditions (through voting). It's bizarre

I hope all these people that think teachers are so awful are finding new schools or are home educating their children permanently once this is over.

you know they are not. They just want some kind of childcare, they are not that bothered about the actual education side of things.

I bet they were not that bothered about the dreadful state of education pre-pandemic, or not involved in the schools at all as long as they had a spot in after-school clubs.

Then they are failing their children if they are not interested in their education. All parents should take an interest in their children's education, there are no excuses which justify not being interested.

@LaurieMarlow

No it doesn't matter here

I think you’re very naive to decide that public opinion of your profession doesn’t matter.

But it’s teachers that will suffer from that naivety in the long run.

We really won't. The general public needs teachers.

My school needs me. But fortunately for them, most of the parents are very nice and have been supportive and grateful for everything we've done so far. If we were subjected in real life to a fraction of the shit exhibited on here, I would have walked long ago, leaving the school a teacher down, with little chance of recruiting.

@JimmyGrimble didnt mean pro teacher at all. The second a teacher anywhere does something positive I will be the first to start a thread about it. I am genuinely terrified about the way teachers are acting, and as I have friends and family who are teachers, I am spreading the message that whilst acting like a cunt towards parents may be fun satisfying and whatever else, you are hurting yourselves more then us. Stop dishing it out if you cant take it.

I have persuaded one friend to stop being a cunt already. Still working on the rest. So i am doing my bit for the teaching community.

Well, I'm wondering about your comprehension skills, peleton.
All the teachers on here are getting cross precisely because they're "all hard working people, who enjoy their job and the kids and are desperate to get back into the classroom," and are getting severely hacked off to be accused of having a "can't do attitude" by posters like you.

I struggle to reconcile the threads on here with the fact that despite constant cajoling, messages, offers of help, offers of paper copies of work, etc, over half of my secondary students are not engaging with the work I set them in any way shape or form. Perhaps I should complain at the parents on here about all the students being lazy feckers. I would imagine that their response would be that their children were actually doing work and that I should try getting in touch with the ones who weren't.

Funny that.

donut for the last time. I don’t hate you, I don’t care what you think. I discount your opinion because of the way it’s expressed - goady and unpleasant. If friends and family really are teachers then surely you would have some understanding of what we’re up against?
stop dishing it out if you can’t take it what are we? 12?
acting like a cunt towards parents really? The only one I see acting like that is you.

I suspect most parents who have children attending a school where they feel supported in teaching their children at home, however that is delivered, are exceptionally grateful to their teachers and come across as very nice.

Those same parents will be less grateful and nice when they feel they have fallen to the bottom of the scrap heap wondering why their child isn't receiving a scrap of teaching or support that they observe in other schools.

Now, on MN, those parents have been told not to speak of it and address it only with their own schools. They have been barraged with fields of flowers. But, as I said before, it's not just a matter for individuals. The inequity is a national problem that requires a national solution - probably one that requires a lot of thought and money - a problem that can only be fixed nationally.

It won't be fixed by nagging individual schools or by accusing parents of not caring for their children's education and simply wanting childcare. It's a complete mess.

Ive spoken to my DD's Teacher OP. No reply. Ive emailed the Head and Chair of Governers my concern over the inadequate provision of any teaching resources since March. I was directed to BBC Bitesize. No marking, no set work, no work to be sent in and not one welfare phone call in 4 months. And it's not due to teachers looking after key worker children as there are only 16 children in school which attend 'key workers club'.
I have a DS at a secondary school and they have been fabulous. I emailed the Head to thank him and his staff for the amazing effort they have shown. The fact remains some schools and teachers have been terrible. God knows what my DD's teacher has been doing for the last 4 months - thankfully she's leaving the school in July.

@LaurieMarlow

Somehow some people seem to think our children don't matter.

That’s not unique to teachers at all. I’m expected back at work 2 days a week. No school, no nursery, no after schools.

I’m not quite sure wtf I’m supposed to do?

Ask Boris...he suggests employers should be being reasonable but has done nothing to MAKE them be.

Until he does, there is the (admittedly awful) prospect of unpaid parental leave. That's why mortgage holidays have been put in place if needed.

Comes down to how accommodating employers are being, and that's a conversation between employees, employers and possibly MPs to force employers to be reasonable about childcare needs.

But just saying "you have keyworker places so use them" isn't the easy answer you might think.

But to be fair there's also a lot of parent bashing from teachers on here.
I wouldn't want people to stop asking for advice. I have been in touch with various teachers at my sons school to thank them for the online lessons they have provided. However the school my other child attends has been awful at supporting home learning. They've gone radio silent, no feedback or communication and we are told not to contact teachers because we need to be mindful of their mental wellbeing.
