To tell teachers bashers to go and complain to their own fucking schools

Frozenfan2019 · 17/06/2020 12:07

Aibu to be fed up to the back teeth of ignorant comments like "do your job like everyone else" and " it's your vocation" aimed at all and any teachers who happen to be on a thread. If you have a problem with the teaching provided by your own school contact them. People commenting have no idea of the workload that the people they are trolling online might be struggling with. It's bullying plain and simple and wouldn't be allowed to be aimed at other groups.

Do you honestly believe that every single teacher in the UK is lazy? If not why not contact YOUR school about the issues you have with YOUR child's teacher instead of starting yet another general teacher bashing thread.

As a teacher on here I have to say I have never been more demotivated. I work hard for my kids at school while also homeschooling my own three like so many of us. How dare you make me feel like I am failing because you have an issues, unfounded in some cases I am sure, with your school?

They are your children take some responsibility, contact the school if you have concerns and accept that most teachers are fired for the children they each but we don't make many of the decisions. They are made at a much higher level.

I was thinking of posting something similar, completely with you. (I'm not a teacher BTW)

LaurieMarlow · 17/06/2020 17:00

Somehow some people seem to think our children don't matter.

That’s not unique to teachers at all. I’m expected back at work 2 days a week. No school, no nursery, no after schools.

I’m not quite sure wtf I’m supposed to do?

tisaginthing · 17/06/2020 17:01

PR hit! Grin
It sucks that your child hasn't received the right support.
As I don't know you or your child's school, I don't feel furious I'm afraid. Sorry about that.

Playdonut · 17/06/2020 17:03

I haven't read the full thread. But teachers started this parents vs teachers war. Remember the this is not a holiday bullying from teachers to parents? Remember the actually this is a holiday bullying from teachers to parents? Remember the way you all agreed when the unions were calling our kids snotty and disgusting? We didnt start this war. We didnt want this war.

Playdonut · 17/06/2020 17:04

And yes, I have sent a strongly worded email to my kids school asking them to provide education and support instead of having endless meetings about how to put off the kids from attending. Just like most caring parents have.

FleurDaxeny · 17/06/2020 17:04

I have absolutely no idea what you are on about.
I am not a teacher either!

Playdonut · 17/06/2020 17:06

Maybe you were luckier than me, or went on mumsnet less than me then @fleur

LaurieMarlow · 17/06/2020 17:06

Just to be clear, I’m not asking teachers to be furious on my child’s behalf.

I’m saying you should be furious because the poor delivery of some teachers will impact how the profession is seen as a whole.

You can chose to deny that if you like, but the sheer volume of threads and posts on here should tell you something.

But up to yourselves if you want to ignore it.🤷‍♀️

Babyboomtastic · 17/06/2020 17:07

Of course teachers children matter, and it's hard caring for them whilst working from home. But no harder than most of the rest of us who are doing the same.

tisaginthing · 17/06/2020 17:07

War! Good grief.
I think I need to have a lie down. This hyperbolic language is going straight to my head.

SeasonFinale · 17/06/2020 17:08

Not a teacher and definitely not a teacher basher. I think on the whole you have done and are continuing to do a great job. As with any complaint though it is that 5% that are not getting the experience of education my kids fortunately are that will shout out about it.

When you complain "they are not doing this etc" - stop for a minute and think - in my personal experience this is not happening for me , not this is not happening generally. So take it up with your schools, and take it through complaints procedures if you really can't in your heart find that your school is probably doing the best they can in extremely difficult circumstances.

Daffodil for every teacher out there

Playdonut · 17/06/2020 17:09

Sorry @tisaginthing I couldn't think of the right words. Basically I'm saying that the teachers shouldn't have dished it out if they cant take it. Is that better?

user1972548274 · 17/06/2020 17:11

Why would you feel like you personally are failing because somebody totally unconnected to you is having a problem with another person who is also totally unconnected to you but happens to also work in your field?

Should women who were mistreated or let down during childbirth not be allowed to talk about that online in case some totally unconnected midwife comes along, doesn't like how uncomfortable it makes her feel to read of failures by others in her field, and decides to make it about her personally to try to shut it down because she doesn't know how to manage those feelings?

The profession is not seen as particularly desirable as it is, tbh. Poor working conditions, high stress levels, poor retention...

I don't think it matters if some mumsnetters disapprove of teachers. Why would it? They aren't voted in

FourTeaFallOut · 17/06/2020 17:12

Who knows if 5% is the figure of children receiving a bum deal in terms of access to teaching/ resources in this pandemic? Who has checked, who has asked?

LaurieMarlow · 17/06/2020 17:12

Why would it? They aren't voted in

I can think of situations where public opinion matters. Can’t you?

GalesThisMorning · 17/06/2020 17:13

I also think that focussing your ire on teachers, or the furloughed, or unions, or your next door neighbour who had 7 people in their garden is just what the conservative government would like.

Who really deserves to be held accountable here?

SD1978 · 17/06/2020 17:13

Many of us have spoken to the school- got little to no support or feedback, and are venting frustrations as opposed to denigrating the entire profession. Threads however seem polarising and if you have a middle opinion, disappointed with your experience, whilst also accepting that the situation is hard for everyone, it's construed as bashing, not venting.

GalesThisMorning · 17/06/2020 17:14

No it doesn't matter here @laurie. Teachers aren't responsible for this and they can't change it, no matter what your opinion of them is

GalesThisMorning · 17/06/2020 17:16

Sorry I just realised I might sound like I'm telling people they shouldn't vent! Vent away, but really your kids teacher can't singlehandedly change this situation can they

NailsNeedDoing · 17/06/2020 17:18

Dn’s primary school teacher refused to set any work as it would disadvantage disadvantaged pupils (!). The school and governors were approached. The teacher (who had gone to stay with her parents 200 miles away) was spitting feathers when she was tracked down and told to set work.

There was no need for the indignant exclamation mark, this is what schools were told to consider right at the start of the closures by the government. The government then changed their minds about what should happen and how it should happen a few times, and schools tried to keep up with it. Some did that well, some didn’t, but all of them had shit guidance from government.

We were told that the curriculum was suspended and we should not be teaching before the Easter holidays. It wasn’t just that some teachers spotted an opportunity to do nothing for their class and went with it, they were following government instructions.

LaurieMarlow · 17/06/2020 17:22

No it doesn't matter here

I think you’re very naive to decide that public opinion of your profession doesn’t matter.

But it’s teachers that will suffer from that naivety in the long run.

FromMarch2020 · 17/06/2020 17:23

Actually this poster makes a very good point.

"Greysparkles Wed 17-Jun-20 16:34:47
Here's an idea - perhaps stop voluntarily taking personal offence when a poster you don't know posts about a school you don't work in and you're not the teacher they're moaning about"

BritWifeinUSA · 17/06/2020 17:23

No one is forcing you to read the threads on here. The UK is, well it was last time I was there, a free country. You are free to read the threads, ignore the threads, say what you want, join MN, leave MN, and others have those same freedoms.

Some people are upset with the way things are being handled. Could they express their disappointment in a better way? Yes, they could. But you have also started off with all guns blazing here too on this thread with “fucking” in the title. Nice. Ever heard of “be the better person”?

peppapigisscottish · 17/06/2020 17:26

@AnneLovesGilbert

Did this need yet another thread? We get that you’re grumpy.
There are a lot less threads supporting teachers or for teachers to voice their views about the unfounded criticism that they are getting than there are ones which are teacher bashing - I saw about 6 teacher bashing threads yesterday. It's beyond ridiculous.

I hope all these people that think teachers are so awful are finding new schools or are home educating their children permanently once this is over. I couldn't continue to send my children to a school where I had zero respect for the teachers.
