Woke up an hour before my alarm, my tongue is burning and my throat aches but worse of all, I am so, so nauseous ... I keep balking ... not actually been sick yet though, feel altogether shite.

No idea what it could be? I’m not normally Ill ... no chance of pregnancy 🤮 supposed to be at work today, without actual vomiting would it be unreasonable to call in sick? I feel like like I have the hangover from hell.

Sounds like it could be corona virus, you need to book a test and stay off work until you get the result.
Hope you feel better soon.

GrumpyInsomniac · 16/06/2020 06:05

First of all, see if you can sip some water. Dehydration can make you feel pretty ropey, so worth seeing if it resolves somewhat with that.

But also, have you actually looked in a mirror to see if your tongue and throat look normal? In the current climate, I think calling in sick would be entirely acceptable: just the sore throat bit would probably have most employers telling you to take the day off and not come anywhere near work.

Hope you're feeling better soon, OP Flowers

Nacreous · 16/06/2020 06:11

Seconding trying to sip some water (little and often is always the mantra here) and give a little while.

Have a think and see if you think you have a temperature which can make you feel dreadful, or if it's impacting taste or smell. If so you should definitely be off work.. if not, it depends on how you feel and where you work but my work would want me nowhere near anyone feeling like that.

Saying that, hayfever and dehydration means I sometimes feel pretty dreadful in the mornings ATM.

octobersky19 · 16/06/2020 06:14

Wake up properly, have a drink, have a shower and if you're not feeling 100% still and your throat is sore then call in sick and isolate. Also check your temp

GreyishDays · 16/06/2020 06:15

What’s balking? Like retching?

Definitely don’t go to work though. Smile

SquishyBones · 16/06/2020 06:17

I do have bad hay fever.

On Saturday I had a migraine that I just couldn’t shift. Felt ok on Sunday. Yesterday felt really hot and had stabbing pains in my throat (not a sore throat, a painful stabbing throat). Today feel absolutely shocking. Feel like I could throw up at any minute. Muzzy head but not a headache ...

No coughing (well I do have a hay fever cough but it’s no worse than it normally is). Lost sense of smell a few weeks ago but it’s back to normal now. Tongue looks ok but feels sore as though it’s being burnt.

Balking - retching ... couldn’t think of the right word lol

It certainly sounds like it could be Covid, sorry. I'd call in sick. You should probably also get a test - although I heard an expert say even if you test negative you should probably quarantine for 14 days.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/06/2020 06:30

Loss of sense of smell was added a few weeks ago (finally) as a symptom. Didn’t you see this? My understanding is you would have had to isolate then but maybe I’m wrong. I agree you deffo need a test.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 16/06/2020 06:36

How I started last week. Get yourself tested for covid .

SquishyBones · 16/06/2020 06:39

@drinkingwineoutofamug can you elaborate? What initial symptoms did you have?

OP posts:
Alittleshortforaspacepooper · 16/06/2020 06:39

Can't stand The British culture of presenteeism. It doesn't do any good for anyone involved. Everyone gets sick sometimes, it's just part of life.

Don't go in just to be a matyr- you may pass on whatever you have to your colleagues, and you may make yourself even more ill. The world will not end just because you took one sick day.

Bmidreams · 16/06/2020 06:40

So you lost your sense of smell, didn't get tested for covid, and didn't self isolate?

Supersimkin2 · 16/06/2020 06:40

It sounds nothing like Covid. No high fever or cough.

Just a bug, love, they're still around.

SquishyBones · 16/06/2020 06:40

@Bmidreams I had a test which was negative

OP posts:
Chapellass · 16/06/2020 06:41

Sounds exactly like covid symptoms my daughter had - get tested

Teatowel1 · 16/06/2020 06:43

Bmidreams it's was only put on the list of symptoms for self isolating quite recently.
OP I agree with others, call in sick and self isolate and get a test.
Hope you feel better soon.

Amelietaylor · 16/06/2020 06:45

Lots of people test negative initially, you need another test, don't go anywhere other than a test centre.

Don't even think about going to work

Look after yourself xx

GnomeDePlume · 16/06/2020 06:47

Alittleshortforaspacepooper problem is that we are expected to keep going in to work. My boss will describe a streaming cold as 'the sniffles'. She will come into work with a bug and share it with everyone. She sees it as 'powering through' and expects everyone else to do the same.

aurynne · 16/06/2020 06:56

Today we had the first 2 cases of COVID19 in New Zealand which came from 2 British visitors. One of them had actually been having symptoms "but did not think it was COVID19".

What the hell is wrong with you for goodness sake? Are you really, really considering going to work? Has this pandemic and the 30,000 dead not taught you anything?? Do you realise the amount of death and devastation you can cause?

Clearyweary · 16/06/2020 06:57

Definitely isolate and get tested again. The ‘I felt hot’ yesterday comment is a bit of a red flag - sounds like a temperature. Definitely don’t go to work. Isolation is for 7 days not 14. You can go out again after 7 days providing symptoms have resolved (the 14 day isolation is for household members who may be incubating the virus). Guidance at my work (an NHS Trust) is that even if you get a negative Covid test, you should still remain off work until symptoms have resolved because of the high percentage of false negatives.

Hope you feel better soon OP

Mary1935 · 16/06/2020 07:00

Look after yourself phone in sick.
I didn’t know being physically sick was a symptom of COVID.

MaxNormal · 16/06/2020 07:05

You really can't go into work or anywhere else with symptoms at present, you k ow that. Get another test, sometimes you need more than one for a positive result.

MrsKingfisher · 16/06/2020 07:10

I have all the same symptoms except the sickness, the tongue pain/burning is weird I had my cv test yesterday so staying at home waiting for the results. Hope you feel better soon

Bmidreams · 16/06/2020 07:15

I give up.
