My mother and mil are obsessed with not getting wet, coats, hats brollies etc. If they were to nip out of a car to post a letter they would both get their protective gear on and it really winds me up.
Me I don't do umbrellas they always break or get left, if I'm walking the dog in the rain i'll pt my hood up and if i'm with the buggy I'll put the cover on but really I don't mind getting wet - infact I quite enjoy it and anyone who doesn't annoys me

My mum was/is the opposite. She used to say to me "You're not a sugar baby, you won't melt."

today was the first time it has poured down and i havent worried about peter getting wet. was a relief. he still stayed in the car at the school though as gets cold easily for some reason.

I can't get worked up about a bit of rain either. DH gets out his big umbrella, takes up the path and wonders why I won't walk with him but 1) I don't want my eyes poked out and 2) I don't care about getting wet in the first place. Usually it is only a bit of drizzle, fgs.

It annoys me that everybody makes a judgement on rain like it is always a bad thing. Weather presenters who say it was a bad day today because it rained or a good day because it was hot. However, I don't like it really hot and I don't mind the rain. Really they should just keep their judgements to themselves and just tell us what the weather going to do.

rosie....YABU...whilst personally I don't care about it to much...it doesn't bother me if it does others...also, some people react allergic to rain, etc...so, they have no choice ( I actually can get blotchy, etc...if I get to wet, but it has to be severe) but to cover themselfs up!
Also, i suppose some women have "complecated" hairstyles, that take them ages to get done, and well, it would be a complete pain to have them ruined, lol!

It was quite amazing, how many cars were at teh school this morning...apparently most people really do dispise rain that much that they won't take their Kids to school without a car...now, that to me is silly, lol...

I LOVE the rain and wind, makes it feel all cosy and lovely while at home. Snuggled up on the sofa in PJ's with a hot cup of coffee or tea.

YANBU. Rain is just water. I try to avoid getting soaked if I know I won't be able to change for a while (eg on the way to work, or the kids on the way to school) but being caught in the odd shower isn't that terrible.

YQD - I can remember my mum and grandparents saying similar to me: you'll not melt, you're not made of sugar

I hate walking in wet jeans. It is unomfortable. And I wear specs and can't see if they get wet. I don't mind being in the rain (I quite like it), but what's wrong with staying comfortable. All the extra cars at the school gates though - that makes me think "it's just rain FFS...."

I like UD's mum's line though. And shall use it...

My neighbour hates the rain that much, that last week, when she got caught in a down pour on the way home from school, she flagged down a friend and bundled her 3 kids into their car, which already had 3 children in it! Needless to say, her kids weren't in car seats, but at lest her hair didn't get wet!

Depends on temperature, wind and what I'm doing at the time or afterwards.

DH and I once had a memorably great walk in the Yorkshire Dales (bolton abbey up to Simons Seat). It was warm and we'd not taken waterproofs... absolutely peed down. We just strode on carefree and unencumbered while other folk were bundled up, sorta dry but probably sweaty...

Big mug of hot tea and a cake when we back at the cafe... fabulous.

On the other hand I don't like DD getting soaked on her way up to school cos its just not nice sitting around damp in a classroom.

Theres prob also a generational thing. My mum was a child before penicillin was invented...getting a bacterial infection was a big deal then and yes cold and damp DO make it more likely to succumb.

OSOTC, well, when I say allergic to rain...I assume it's more about being allergic about whatever else comes down with the rain...I mean, pollution, and all that...just not a pretty thing...

Rain is not an issue for me per say, however, I will do the school run in my car if it is because if I don't then the 3 toddlers I have are soaked before we start the day. Also I have a child whose parents don't know the meaning of wet weather clothing. I have been asking them to provide waterproofs for 6 mths, still not got them. She arrives in a denim jacket what ever the weather or a nice quilted coat that is warm but not waterproof!

I love the wind and the rain! Have never owned or used a brolly in my life and probably never will!

I don't even own a coat actually, just a hoody, but I do love to go out in the rain with dd3 andjump in all the puddles!!

I really cannot see what all the fuss is about - it's only water! OK, so it's not great if you're then going to be sitting around in wet clothes all day but normally this is not the case and still people huddle themselves up and dash out to the car as if the rain was going to hurt somehow. Personally, I just carry on as normal - if I get wet then so be it . After all, it's not like I'm going to shrink when I get wet is it (although that would be no bad thing if I could decide which bit of me shrunk )

Also, i dont mind going out in the rain provided i have the correct clothing on. If i were on my way to work and didn't take a brolly and it chucked it down, i wouldn't be happy but if i'm prepared for the rain, it's quite theraputic (sp?) i think! It smells nice too! I cant wait to take my baby out in the pushchair with the rain cover on.

I hate rain..I hate getting wet..hate it hate it!! No idea why...

Im one of the mothers that takes the car even if it looks as if it might rain..wears a raincoat and uses an umberella and still runs from car to school moaning about the rain!!! Sorry guys

I guess there are things about life that we don't like..everyone has their own individual vices. If its not directly doing anyone else any harm then why not live and let live!!

Things like sugar don't melt in water, they dissolve. Melting is when you heat something solid (like chocolate or ice) till it liquifies.

nothing better than a horrible stormy evening get to snuggle up with ds{both in pjs}on the couch with a film and cup of hot chocolate christ im old!
