We bought a house 6 months ago. Needs new everything, carpets, kitchen, bathroom etc.

We needed new sofas as well

Everything is grey. There are various different shades and shapes but grey.

Grey fucking grey.

Even trying to get curtains 294782927 grey.

Even buying baby toys for the baby. Grey play mats ffs.
Grey ball pits?! With grey balls?!

I used to like grey.

A grey-ish colour can look nice, as in a muted colour. But I cannot be doing with a house that’s different shades of grey and nothing else except white or beige. Just unbelievably depressing.

Yep. Sick to death of it and having little choice. Furniture, grey. Bedding, grey. Curtains, grey. Cushions, grey. Wallpaper, grey. Every time I try to buy something new for the home, fucking grey. 👿

YANBU.

The all-grey and white look is boring and everywhere.

I actually thought Mrs Hinch took all her Instagram photos in black and white at first.

We do have a dark grey sofa - even I haven't been able to escape the grey completely...

MrsExpo · 15/06/2020 21:26

Totally with you on this OP.

Our neighbour opposite (so, the view from our front windows ... !!!) has painted their entire house grey. Apart from the brick walls, their door and garage door, all their wooden fascias, the wood decorative facing on their gable and all their (formerly wood coloured) UPVC window frames have been spray painted a shade of battleship grey. Yes, she did it herself. Yes it looks like sh*#@ .... I despair!!

tipsyandtim · 15/06/2020 21:27

I really like grey with another colour, prefer it to cream.

The grey ball pits are hilarious though.

Midsommar · 15/06/2020 21:30

I'm a big fan of grey, but not because it's fashionable. I just find it an easy colour to work with, and I love putting pops of colour with it, such as lime green and yellow cushions.

Giespeace · 15/06/2020 21:31

Our new house was last graced with a paintbrush when magnolia/beige/brown was the fashion. It’s going to take us a while to bring it up to speed and I’m hoping grey has given way to a more interesting variety of colours by then. Maybe in the post covid world people will be sick of feeling they’ve been trapped inside the mess deck of a battleship for months and we can all move?

RoseMartha · 15/06/2020 21:31

I dont like the grey trend either

tilder · 15/06/2020 21:31

Maybe it's just the undercoat MrsExpo and the colour will follow?

Thisbastardcomputer · 15/06/2020 21:32

We moved house in 2018 to a cottage in the country, every room grey, we've completely redone every room.

AnnieMaul · 15/06/2020 21:33

I don't mind grey. I actually quite like it in moderation, but it's easy to over do it.

I've been on instagram a lot lately looking for home inspiration and everything is very samey at the moment. Grey on grey on grey with little dents in the top of the cushions Grin

Dumbie · 15/06/2020 21:35

I like a bit of grey, but not too much. Sofa, kitchen floor, dining chairs.

I've got grey cats, it's a bit of problem in low light! Grin

Dumbie · 15/06/2020 21:36

I also thought Mrs Hinchs photos were a black and white filter at first

Everythingmagnolia · 15/06/2020 21:38

Grey ball pits make me feel so sad

isseywith4vampirecats · 15/06/2020 21:39

we are mid renovating our house we went for black and cream wallpaper in the bedroom with grey carpet love it, the hall and stairs we went for yellow walls and brown carpet, the kitchen we have gone for grey walls but have gone for pale blue units to contrast, don't know yet about lounge so while I wouldn't like to live in a totally grey house I like the colour grey livened up with other colours

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/06/2020 21:41

We have grey and baby pink in our room.Tis lovely.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 15/06/2020 21:42

I agree but I've had a grey living room for 9 years now, it's great with children & hides small marks brilliantly until I clean them, I have a brown hall for that same reason. The kitchen is a cheery light purple (washable paint) though & the dc have bright rooms too. I don't think I could have the entire house in shades of grey.

eatsleepread · 15/06/2020 21:44

I see what you mean, but I do like it. What I don't understand, is when you see babies' nurseries painted in grey. I'm all for good taste, but a grey nursery is all about the adults surely?! You can't beat a nursery painted in a lovely sunny yellow.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 15/06/2020 21:47

I like to use grey as a neutral colour, but I do like a bit of colour. I just ordered a teal couch. There are definitely other colours, just a lot of grey aswell.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 15/06/2020 21:51

About 6 years ago I made the mistake of buying a crushed velvet bed. God I hated it the minute I say it. It went with nothing, it looked tacky, but I had to live with it for a while. I finally sold it about a year and a half ago for £150. Was one of the best days of my life, because the new bedframe, which I love was only £180.

DanniArthur · 15/06/2020 21:56

When we bough our house everything was a dirty looking magnolia and we painted most of it grey with nice feature walls (navy wallpaper in the livingroom, purple in our room and pink in DDs) I think grey is much fresher and modern than magnolia but you can also add any colour and it looks great.

suggestionsplease1 · 15/06/2020 22:02

I can't get on board with the grey either, although, that said, the ensuite is mostly grey and I'm ok with that. But for living areas I like warmer, richer colours, well at least accents of them.

MessAllOver · 15/06/2020 22:08

Another grey lover here 😁! But you need to pair it with strong colours. We've found a lovely petrol blue sofa to go with light grey walls. We're planning to redecorate DS's room in warm grey/taupe with dark green curtains and orange rug and accents (fox theme). I'm only sorry DH won't let me paint the whole house grey and is insisting on keeping the lilac in the hall!

chunkyrun · 15/06/2020 22:11

Yess looking at houses at the minute and everything is grey

Aveisenim · 15/06/2020 22:18

I hated grey to begin with. I hate it even more now. I don't want fucking grey!
