Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

What is a dementor?

Why do you have to be so mean?[/quote]
Are you kidding?

There are countless posts saying basically "just because you're shielding doesn't mean we can't all get out and have a fabulous time. Tough luck that you can't". We've got the op gloating and boasting about it being like Christmas, life back to normal, and how they've barely got through this having to do "the walk", yet it's me being mean????

How about people thinking about those who can't set foot outside their front door yet, let alone go shopping, have fun at the beach etc and consider how it feels reading about what a fabulous time everyone is having?

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/06/2020 17:03

What is a dementor?

The sort of poster who revels in bad news and generally enjoys bringing down anyone who might be feeling positive.

ShinyFootball · 15/06/2020 17:03

WFH as I will be till at least January Sad I love my office mates and social life up there.

Also got nasty cystitis! WOOT!

Alsohuman · 15/06/2020 17:04

How about people thinking about those who can't set foot outside their front door yet, let alone go shopping, have fun at the beach etc and consider how it feels reading about what a fabulous time everyone is having?

So you want everyone to be as miserable as you are? Good luck with that, it’s not going to happen.

catgirl1976 · 15/06/2020 17:04

Staying at home, not going to the shops and not having contact with anyone. Lock down is not over and the virus has not gone away so why would I act any differently?

Weepinggreenwillow · 15/06/2020 17:05

well I went to work in my clinical NHS job, only to be sent home again. As due to the latest ridiculous last minute govenrment guidlines about mask wearing in NHS buildings there was total chaos and they were asking everyone who possibly could to go home to work again.... also looks as if we will have to reduce face to face aptient appointments again...and no chance of getting important clinical meetings properly up and running now....
So instead I spent the afternoon trying to support my teenagers in their home learning and trying to do what I can to boost their mental halth. LAter I will write to my MP AGAIN about lack of robust plans to get chilren back to school.
SO no, for me it definitely does not feel as if lockdown is over, and nor can I see it being any better in any meaningful way for many months to come sadly due to the inept bundling by the government. Sad

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/06/2020 17:05

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras

I'm sorry for your situation but FFS stop pissing on everyone's chips. If someone else is having a good time, they're not doing that to slight you personally - I haven't seen one post on here that's 'gloating' so maybe that's just how you interpret it.

And yes, you are mean. Given the choice between OP's company and yours I know which one I'd choose.

Willow2017 · 15/06/2020 17:06

I’m working like I have every day since this started. Fed up of people treating it like a free holiday. I’m not planing to queue up for god knows how long.

So.am i but i know people who are furloughed so what are they meant to do? Sit on the sofa and rend thier clothes all day?

The UK is currently seeing about 17,000 new infections a day.
No its not.

Musicforsmorks · 15/06/2020 17:09

Might sound like a wild idea but could the virus rates be dropping also because it is summer?
Maybe there’ll be an increase come autumn, and if lockdown lasted until then and there was a resurgence, the economy really would be in a mess.
And when people say ‘economy’ as if it is a Tory/elite-only concern which matters more than the collective - sadly the economy IS the collective, it is all we know and all we have. Until we create a new world or utopia we need to earn money.☹️

So I tend to think it is advantageous for mental health, morale and people’s livelihoods if we have an easier summer, in case winter brings hardship up again.

It would be bloody fabulous if it buggered off and didn’t come back.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 15/06/2020 17:15

Weepinggreenwillow

And that's why I find it so difficult to believe the figures that government are releasing. Why are such strict protocols in place if Primark is open and people feel like everything is back to normal? The two scenarios don't add up.

BrightYellowDaffodil

Strange isn't it? Almost as if being isolated indoors for twelve weeks might have a detrimental effect, especially when reading about the jolly time everyone else is having, meeting friends, shopping, having a lovely time.

sassbott · 15/06/2020 17:16

Op. Haven’t RTFT, but a resounding YANBU. Normality, within guidelines, needs to return. The economy needs to return.
For those people up in arms about the vulnerable, what are your views? You’re vulnerable and you have to shield, so should everyone else? Ok, for how much longer? A month? 6 months? A year?

It’s not feasible. Peoples mental health is being impacted. The economy is in real trouble. When furloughs end, the real impact is going to hit. People have to get out, get the economy turning, people in employment.

Op, I’m glad you had a lovely day. Enjoy it. Apparently my local high street was packed so you’re not alone.

Willow2017 · 15/06/2020 17:19

Hearhoovesthinkzebras
You ask the same questions on every thread and say the same thing "Its not fair".

There is no quick fix if you are shielding.

Making everyone else stay at home so you can go out is pretty unworkable.
Life isnt fair. We take risks every time we walk out our front door but we still do it. Nobody is responsible for your reasons for shielding and nobody can make it go away. You get more and more angry and nasty on these threads at people who cannot change your circumstances because they dont agree with you. Are you the same with friends who dont have to shield?
Nobody is going to stay at home forever until you say its ok.
Making everyone else miserable seems to be your main goal at the moment, its not going to happen.

And i bet ops friend is happy for her and her kids just like most of us would be. Not everyone thinks the world revolves around them.

Thomasina79 · 15/06/2020 17:19

Watching people (on line of course) waiting outside shops for a couple of hours for things they don’t need with money they haven’t got.

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 17:20

But @Hearhoovesthinkzebras, what should the non shielding do, just stay indoors even though the government are opening up shops etc with a view to restarting the economy?

What do you think should happen? Everyone locked down and the economy just stop?

We've got to move forward in my opinion, we can't continue lockdown indefinitely, it wouldn't be sustainable economically, it would cause all manner of other problems.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 15/06/2020 17:20

especially when reading about the jolly time everyone else is having, meeting friends, shopping, having a lovely time.

Don't read the fucking threads then!

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 17:21

Don't read the fucking threads then!

Fair comment the title did sum up the thread!

Musicforsmorks · 15/06/2020 17:21

Ive felt bad because I don’t have a vehicle right now and re;iced heavily on local, buses and trains.
Early on when people were encouraged to travel for ‘exercise’ (like you do haha) I was stuck indoors wishing I had a camper van.

But I didn’t resent those who got into their vehicles and made the most of it.
I think we all have our own version of left-outness here, some much more than others admittedly.
I do feel for those who are shielding or can’t see family. And those who have kids and can’t wfh. There’s a lot of shitty things happening to people and we should be more tolerant of differing views.

For some, getting out to the shops is symbolic, it contains a kernel of hope and optimism and can actually make a huge difference to their mental health, not because they’re unwell necessarily, but because they’re human.
I’m not arsed myself, but I can appreciate it.

ArcheryAnnie · 15/06/2020 17:22

Isn't there a thread already for the Dementors?

LEELULUMPKIN you do realise the people you are dismissing as "Dementors" are people who have either dealt with illness in themselves or their family, or deaths, and who might have a very valid reason to be worried about all the gung-ho stuff on here about getting back to "normal".

Forgone90 · 15/06/2020 17:22

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras... What a ridiculous post... Yes I feel for the shielding but we can't just not live our lives anymore... If that was the case we would never do anything as even without covid there are many people with weak immune systems that have to avoid large crowds and shield etc but we don't just not get on with our lives as its not fair on them do we?

We actually need happy people going out, spending money, enjoying themselves and actually contributing the the economy now more than ever... The fallout of the economy has the potential to Be much much worse than the damage the virus has done... Now yes we should all be careful and sensible but I would urge everyone to go out, spend some money and enjoy themselves if they can :)

babymidgetgem · 15/06/2020 17:24

Staying at home, except for my one walk a day, as I'm shielding.

Musicforsmorks · 15/06/2020 17:24

And dementors is like remoaners, it’s bloody childish. We all have different opinions. We need to get the fuck over it.

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 17:24

you do realise the people you are dismissing as "Dementors" are people who have either dealt with illness in themselves or their family, or deaths

Not necessarily, quite a number of them won't be!

Willow2017 · 15/06/2020 17:25

Christ on a bike just stop!
You are making things up and being bloody nasty.

Nobody is gloating.
And just because you are shielding doesnt mean the rest of us have to stay in.the house ffs its not rocket science.

Candyflosscookie · 15/06/2020 17:26

@ilovesooty I thought the script writers for "Gone With the Wind" had all died by now

Absolutely brilliant GrinGrinGrin
