Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

If anyone wants to look at their own area, and make their own risk assessment then follow the link:

www.inyourarea.co.uk/news/ons-map-shows-coronavirus-deaths-in-your-postcode/

It is very helpful if you live in an area with very little CoVid. Be mindful that it is the TOTAL deaths for the whole period, and the up to date infection rate is probably more important than the death rate. But still.

Of course it's sad that people die from it, but people die from flu too and we don't go into lockdown every winter to save them. You didn't this time. You went into lockdown so as to not overwhelm the NHS and make sure it was still available for yourself.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 15/06/2020 16:29

@pigeon999

I do feel for those still shielding, it is one thing to be shielding when everyone else is locked down, and quite another when everyone else is starting to get on life again.

I know I make a special effort with those that I know in this position, not just with shopping deliveries when they need it, but with regular phone calls and some picked flowers from the garden. It is not fair, but if we want to be able to continue to protect the most vulnerable, we need to have an economy that can provide the resources to look after them.

One of my closest friends has a child that has a very serious medical condition and need to shield properly. They have not only received free boxes of shopping every week for every member of the family since this started, she was also been sent toy vouchers (alot of money too!) to help them through this. My friend has had moments of being at her wits end, not even allowed to go outside at all. The kindness of others has made all the difference to them.

But we need to keep going to support others, especially if there is a second wave at the end of the year, and more help will be needed.

Give over. You make a special effort to what - brag about your lovely day out, shopping, eating ice cream, how it all feels completely normal again.

Have you shared your lovely day out with your friend and their child? Told them what great fun you've had and how normal life is now?

As for a free food box - you are joking aren't you? We never accepted it here because a)I'm on a medical diet that wasn't catered for with the boxes and b)we didn't need free food, we had our wages still and were happy to pay for food. I'm glad they gave children toy vouchers, but what about everyone else shielding? How about even considering us enough to tell us what's happening in two weeks time, how about considering our medical needs or our social needs?

LaurieMarlow · 15/06/2020 16:29

So now what's meant to happen about our jobs and our mental health and our need to socialise and buy new clothes and eat ice cream in the sunshine?

You have to weigh up the risks and benefits for yourself.

I’m sorry for the position you’re in, but it’s not our fault you are more vulnerable to this disease and there’s not much we can do to help beyond following guidelines.

Aridane · 15/06/2020 16:29

During the period of lockdown, I haven't seen a shop open without a huge queue outside it. Even supermarkets. It's rare that you can just walk into a food shop (unless I just time it wrong every time!).

Other than the giant Tesco, I have never had to queue at a food shop. Maybe it’s location dependent (and not purely timing dependent)

sociallydistained · 15/06/2020 16:29

I don't care what anyone says I went into town today... actually only went into cafe Nero 😂 ... but was the first time in 12+ weeks and it felt normal and nice and by far my best day. I met friends in the local cathedrals grounds and had lunch and then walked back passed the shops just to see what it was like.

A few queues and not everything open.

FleurDaxeny · 15/06/2020 16:29

Glad to see people feeling happy again.

I am hoping the government doesn't pick up on the fact that all it takes are McDonalds and Primark.

Forgone90 · 15/06/2020 16:30

OP I'm with you.. Had a lovely time taking the kids to spend their birthday money at the toy shops today, then got made to feel like scum as some people on just love the doom and gloom of all this and said they couldn't as they were working from home... I would bloody love to be working from home or back at work at the moment but working in an airport means that won't happen... These are the people that when pubs open will moan that you have to still sit further apart or when they can go on holiday they will still moan about having to wear a mask at the airport... I am likely to be made redundant in the next couple of weeks and I felt so much more positive today walking around the mall, it suddenly hit me that things will and are beginning to return to normal.. Don't let anyone else get you down... Hope you had a great day out shopping.. My kids had a blast having the day off from homeschooling and feeling slightly normal for the day :)

That's really of no use at all. In order to make decisions about risks of catching it we need up to date information about rates of infection in our areas currently. Of course, if you live somewhere like London it's even more complicated because you've got people commuting in who might well have it but who won't be recorded as having it in London. So, all a bit pointless really.
HelloMissus · 15/06/2020 16:36

hear there are very few people commuting into London still.
The trains are bloody empty.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/06/2020 16:36

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras

Why do you have to be so mean?

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 16:37

Children think it is christmas and are now dancing in said shoes, it has done THEIR mental health the world of good going out and doing something so normal, and we have been locked up for long enough!!

I don't think I could take another day of 'the walk' or the groundhog that has been our lives for so long. Jesus I shall never do that bloody walk again after this.

Neighbours are now singing in the garden, I think it is catching!!!!!!

I’m sorry pigeon, but that site is basically BS, I work along side our local council in which we receive the figures and when I’ve entered my postcode it said we have had 4 deaths in total...

We’ve had hundreds in total unfortunately.

Valenciaoranges · 15/06/2020 16:40

Surely it’s positive to see people back in the shops, spending and getting the economy back in its feet?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/06/2020 16:41

@HesterShaw1

Can I refer you to @Drivingdownthe101 above who says that you have about at 1 in 1600 of catching the virus?

1 in 1600 people are estimated as being infected. But surely the odds of getting it are rather smaller than that. You'd have to encounter one of them closely enough and for long enough for transmission to occur, for a start. And you might not be susceptible anyway. Lots of people aren't.

so with a 1 in 1600 chance of meeting someone wih covid and a 3% of getting droplets at 2metres ( 13% at 1 metre indoors and 2.6% outdoors) our chances of getting it vary between 1 in 13,000 to 1 in 56,000.
Forgone90 · 15/06/2020 16:45

@pigeon999 I love you positivity and am totally with you... Be careful being so happy on here tho.. I can almost here peoples angry fingers tapping away at their keyboards just because you are having a good day :)

Alex50 · 15/06/2020 16:50

My daughter had a lovely time shopping with her friend, hardly any queues, it wasn’t busy at all.

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 16:52

Yep. Rather less than 1 in 1600!

CruCru · 15/06/2020 16:53

This thread has got quite weird. I'm glad that you had a nice day pigeon999.

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 15/06/2020 16:53

I’m going to my dads funeral on Wednesday he died of Covid. People don’t realise until they've been affected personally. Shopping last thing on my mind!

SophieJo · 15/06/2020 16:55

Staying at home and working.

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 16:55

So today the deaths are 38, compared to last Monday it's a 31% reduction.

Even with more testing, the confirmed cases have reduced 20% compared to this time last week.

Isn't there a thread already for the Dementors? How come they have all suddenly popped up on here? No traffic on their other threads maybe?

Add to that there is a good chance that, on the off chance that you do get it, you will get it mildly or even asymptomatically. And that there is, unless you are especially vulnerable, a less than 1% chance (i.e. above odds divided by a 100) of actually dying from it.

They are moving so fast people can't keep up with them and new posters are joining all the time. But it's nice that you're concerned Flowers
