i know I'm not totally free of racism due to my background but I can absolutely state I would feel the same - in fact I would probably feel more fear for the picnic people and would assume that the mob would have been more violent towards them.

And I do think the thread would exist and I don't feel offended by the question but not sure why you would expect a different answer here?

That was disgusting, but I'm not surprised either, sadly. These goons are what my old Dad used to call "rent a crowd". They are always spoiling for violence and look for any excuse to carry it out. Complete arseholes.

Why would it make any difference who either group of people were? This is absolutely horrifying because it is one group of people minding their own business and another group of strangers attacking them for no reason. The characteristics of the people involved are irrelevant.

I'm the OP and I can honestly say I couldn't care less whether the thugs or the picnickers (is that even a word?) were black/white/green or orange. It matters not a jot to me, I would still feel absolute horror at what I saw.

I don't understand how the ethnic background of either the picnickers or the attackers would make any difference at all. I'd be equally shocked by the attackers' behaviour.

If a baying mob of drunk racist louts was heading towards a group of black picnic-ers I would feel more worried . It's absolutely abborhent and a disgrace as is, but not sure if you're trying to insinuate that people are only outraged as they appear to be white?

It was ridiculous the police hadn't banned booze sales in the Tesco by Westminster station until mid afternoon. They should have been a booze sales banning order across Westminster since these are guys whose all point of existence is to get pissed up in a group and then go an intimidate people.

I think it is a valid question because we do subconsciously react differently to different races.

I thought about your question Smile. As far as I can tell, I would react with slightly more fear if the picnickers were black because the outcome would be worse.

I absolutely hate the far right with everything in my body, I find what they stand for so full of anger and poison that actually if they were a group other than white supremacists I might feel a very small amount less panicked if I was there but that would be barely noticeable.

Rationally any group of men high on
bloodlust, regardless of race, is terrifying and makes me feel extremely angry.

I agree that thinking, examining and mulling this stuff is important. We all grew up in a racist environment to a greater or lesser extent because the world is racist to a greater or lesser extent. It would be pretty stunning to come out of that unscathed.

Having grown up with skinheads ruling the streets in South London I can say that racist violence towards black people is utterly terrifying to me. If it was a group of black men attacking white people in the park, also terrifying. Honestly, I find large groups of aggressive men pretty problematic. I don't think I've ever actually experienced a large group of aggressive black men though. Many many football crowds of drunk white men though and I don't like that one bit.
