In a miserable, joyless world of queues and masks. A couple of friends have lost their jobs this week. Where are we going with this? When will it end?

Not even 500000 have died in Brazil

and that's the entire population of Manchester. So nothing hey Hmm
you might want to check your figures

M00dyM0nday1 · 12/06/2020 18:47

Happy to " just exist"

Some of us like myself & family have obeyed the rules during lockdown
No mixing of households
No unnecessary travel, journeys
WFH
One hour exercise maximum
Social distancing
Various pre planned events & trips cancelled
Some hobbies not available

Looking forward to a time when more things are available for everyone, with social distancing still in place

We have done what was requested of us

I respect the people that have gone out to work "as normal"

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/06/2020 18:49

One hour exercise maximum

Which has never been in 'the rules'

BlastedMolluscum · 12/06/2020 19:58

@Bleepbloopblarp; there will probably never be a vaccine? What scientists have said this?

The chief executive of AstraZeneca recently said about the vaccine that they are currently testing in Brazil, "we are confident it will work."

Surely restrictions for those who aren't depending on a vaccine should be relaxed soon. And for those who are part of a sheilding household, like me, the current restrictions will continue until the vulnerable has been vaccinated.

It feels particularly crap this week because it’s rained. Every single day. At least when it was sunny you could sit outside, go for a walk. Now you just wake up to rain bouncing on the windows. Lap top out. Work. Lap top off. Eat. Bed still listening to rain bouncing on the windows. I don’t even have young DCs, and think if I had that thrown into the mix my MH would really be rock bottom.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 12/06/2020 20:41

@Livelovebehappy so true. When the weather was lovely last week, there were little glimpses of normal life - that’s gone now.

randomer · 12/06/2020 20:47

If 30,000 people statistically would have died and we have a ballpark figure of 60,000....it it time to look at the bigger picture and move on?

I suppose lots of people take risks...smokers, drinkers , eaters, couch potatoes, drug users.... ( I score highly)

Life is a risk.

SudokuBook · 12/06/2020 21:09

I didn’t say it was “nothing”. The point was as an estimate of deaths here it seems massively overblown, given countries with much bigger populations than us who have done fuck all haven’t even had that number of deaths.

Cantata · 12/06/2020 21:21

Once there is no more furlough and people start to lose their jobs

I lost mine the minute lockdown was announced. Welcome to my horrible world, anyone who is about to swap furlough for redundancy.

It is sheer Hell.

@Homemadeandfromscratch I don't see the ones as wanting a McDonald's to be the most selfish. The people minimalizing other posters misery are also selfish.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 12/06/2020 21:46

I have been going to work, as has ds,
i cant imagine how tedious life is to be at home, although I have 3 at home, and it is stretching their tolerance.
dh is having a crisis.
dd is hankering after friends, and visiting some, taking risks.
both dd's are bored, bored bored.
the only cheerful one is dm, who is home alone, but going out more and more as allowed each day. including the garden centre and the farm shop! WhoopieGrin

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 12/06/2020 21:48

that's it, The Rain!
It is definately unhelpful to our moods.

tobee · 12/06/2020 21:57

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras if 20% of people require hospital treatment how come 80% apparently don't even have symptoms? Are you saying that people are either asymptomatic or need hospital? No cases are mild symptoms and can treat themselves at home? Your numbers don't seem to add up!

tobee · 12/06/2020 22:11

Have you a link to that BBC item about 450,000 lives saved @biddybird ?

tobee · 12/06/2020 22:13

@Cam77 where is this article that 450,000 lives were saved?

Nihiloxica · 12/06/2020 22:37

Google Neil Ferguson self-justifying bullshit.

That should bring it up.

I find life fairly full in normal times so this makes it even more dull.

skeptile · 12/06/2020 23:26

Ferguson was heavily criticised for his swine flu and hand foot mouth modeling. Its nothing less than extraordinary that his Covid modeling dictated global responses - how did he even retain his career, far less any credibility? It's why conspiracy theories have so much traction.

Dowser · 12/06/2020 23:27

It’s just awful
If it wasn’t for the anti dementors threads I wouldn’t be on mumsnet at all.
They’ve been a life saver

Who has said 80% don't have symptoms? The biggest estimate I've seen is up to 40% may be asymptomatic.

The accepted figure is that 20% of those infected will require hospital admission, 5% of whom will need ITU.

The remaining 80% will be made up of asymptomatic.people and people not ill enough to need hospital. Although some of those will be very unwell over quite some period of time. The data just seems so vague at the moment - they report how many have died but how many are left with long term complications, how many have extended recovery times, how many have the "mild" illness that lasts two weeks?

Thomasina79 · 12/06/2020 23:37

I work in NHS admin, so have continued at work. However things have been difficult outside of work (work also difficult). I had the virus fairly mildly, but my OH had it very badly, couldn’t breath. We are both 64 and I have high blood pressure. I thought he was going to die had had to be at home to look after him. It was by no means ‘just a cold’ and he is very fit, walks miles, swims, does yoga.

I also missed the early days of my newborn grand daughter because of social distancing and could not support my daughter in the weeks following her daughter’s birth. We won’t get those early weeks back, which is sad for us all. I also could not see my other precious granddaughter who is 18 months and changing by the day.

It’s been Hard for all of us, but try not to despair people, better times are ahead, though I grieve for those who have lost loved ones.
