admittedly, ive only been a member for a few months, but i have come to this conclusion. take today for instance. the main topic of conversation on this section is; parents of 5 year olds worried about which senior school to go to? on that thread is the biggest bore & snob you will ever have the misfortune to meet. this popular thread is closely followed by mums worried about whats in their kids packed lunch? mums get a life! im off for a fag.

DP is the usual replacement if a poster isn't married. And it's 'dear' I believe not darling.

TheWiltedRose · 23/09/2007 14:09

talulasmum what would you prefer? the other half? the boyfriend? the random person that got me pregnant? something else that takes ages to type? fgs! its just an acronym are you reALLY that short of things to pick on that your resorting to that!?

mytwopenceworth · 23/09/2007 14:09

Maybe we should change it to P, B1, B2 and TOBAC

3andnomore · 23/09/2007 14:09

erm, talula the dh thing is not a mn thing...it's used on all forums (foren??? showing my personal lack of education here of course), you could also use OH or BF (lahtough sometimes BF stands for Breastfeeding or for Best friend...)

InMyHumbleOpinion · 23/09/2007 14:09

How arrogant of you to assume everyone here is middle class! Why? What on earth leads you to believe that? If it is because we are concerned about nutrition and literacy, you are guilty of far more snobbery than most of the posters here.

It always makes me wonder when a thread like this pops up. Does the OP actually think we care what her opinion is? It is like the threads where people announce they are living, who cares? IMO threads like these (or rather the OP) are a waste of virtual ink, I really don't care what you think of us tbh.

Cammelia · 23/09/2007 14:10

Of course they are, Trolley, don't be a silly goose.

They marry their siblings.

3andnomore · 23/09/2007 14:11

Mellow...nownow...don't let them read this...you don't think of them as darlings..I am shocked, I say

I call DD "darlin" a lot of the time (never with the "g") - does that make me MC?!!?

Lots of MNers don't have a DH or a DP (not everyone here has a H, some are not married, some have same sex partners etc) - as far as I know they don't get offended that other people have them though

talulasmum · 23/09/2007 14:11

ive just been told to "fuck off" how very charming. do you talk to everyone like that who do'snt agree with you, you silly middle class bitch!

WT - we mostly get recommended help from St James' Palace, dontchaknow. although i will have to take the poor gel there to task, the footman we recently hired has taken to standing next to (yes, next to) me when i get out of the coach. he doesn't even bow. i suspect he is not British.

Oh dear, how dreadful, m2tw.

Do they not have cousins?

DH is actually my half aunt by my third cousin's grandfather.

No, wait, that's the corgi.

mytwopenceworth · 23/09/2007 14:12

No flame, that makes you Delboy Trotter.

RustyBear · 23/09/2007 14:12

I think the 'dh' is actually just a little ironical.....

Seriously though, if you were looking at that education thread & taking Xenia (I assume it was Xenia you meant?) as typical of MN - well, she's about as typical a Mumsnetter as lulu is a typical bully....
(That was ironical too btw)

TheWiltedRose · 23/09/2007 14:13

talulasmum!! i am shocked at you!! using such foul language! and here i was thinking you were such a reasonable person who would never resort to such means!

Re the dh/ds/dd thing, that's just evolved as a bit of a joke, hasn't it, and as a convenient abbreviation. I don't call any of my lot 'darling'
Anyway, there's not much wrong with darling -- unless it's pronoounced dahhhling
