How much difference will 2 stones make?

Can I just ask you for your opinion - how much of a difference will a 2 stone weight loss make?

I’m 11 stones and want to get to 9 stones.

OP posts:
BadAlice · 10/06/2020 08:31

I went from 11st to 8 and a half a few years ago. I went from a 12 to a 6 (on reflection it was a bit much). I’m 5’6. I’d imagine at 5’3, two stone would be a similar effect.

WeveGottaGetTherouxThis · 10/06/2020 08:31

An absolutely huge difference! I’ve just lost similar (was 10st 10lbs, down to 9st) and I feel and look infinitely better & healthier. I’m just disappointed in myself that I lived at the higher weight for so long as I was overweight.

overweightcat · 10/06/2020 08:37

@Ginandtonic3 I started out at the same weight as you but I'm 5'5" .

I've been counting kilos though I've lost 5.5kg so far so under a stone but God do I feel and look different. I keep walking around the house feeling up my tummy because there's so much less of it. I know the novelty will wear off and I am aiming to loose another 8kg so just over a stone so have a fair bit to go (2 stone in total is my aim) but I can already see a difference in the way I look and feel.
But I think exercise plays a part in the way I feel as I'm getting stronger and have more energy even if it's just a long brisk walk it makes me feel much better after.

worriedmama1980 · 10/06/2020 08:38

If you've just had a baby, be gentle.

I was breastfeeding (still am) which may have an effect but I did nothing about losing weight, my body clung on to most of the weight for six months then it just started to fall off. I did walk miles to get her to sleep but I'd been doing that since day 1, I made a conscious effort to cut back on too much junk but nothing beyond that.

A lot is happening to your body hormonally after having a child, it's not at all like a normal weight gain/loss - I think it's good to be motivated but I'd come after it mostly from a health point of view for the first year after birth, focus on getting all the nutrients you need and cutting back on some of the sugar/rubbish and you'll feel better and start to make some progress.

MsTSwift · 10/06/2020 08:38

I was 11.5 stone In my October I am now 9.5 stones
Noticeably slimmer
Dress size 14 down to 10
Feel good in a bikini!
Feel fitter and healthier

MsTSwift · 10/06/2020 08:42

I’m 5 6 so taller.

mdh2020 · 10/06/2020 08:42

I went down 2 stone and it’s made a tremendous difference. I went down 2 sizes in clothes and I look and feel better. Would love to lose Moore but am stuck! In lockdown I am walking and exercising and although I haven’t lost any more weight I have definitely toned my body so clothes that were tight are now confortable

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 10/06/2020 08:46

I’ve lost 2 stone and 2lbs going from a size 20 to a size 18 and I don’t feel different. I’ve still got a long way to go and am feeling quite discouraged. DH says I look no different and that I’ve been the same weight our whole relationship despite me having put on 5 stone in the last 17 years Confused
11 stone to 9 stone will be a big difference - good luck!

FavouriteFightingFrenchman · 10/06/2020 08:48

OP I was the same as you exactly, 5ft3in, was just over 11st and now around 9st. The difference it has made is immense.

I was a large 12, small 14, now I'm a 10 or small 12.
I feel so much healthier and more confident in everything I do and wear. I just choose clothes I like and think about how they will look on me as an afterthought. Before it was always a question of whether it would make me look less chubby.
I've been able to exercise and run with much more confidence.
I bought a bikini for the first time in 10 years.
Everyone comments on how I look, loads of people have asked (unprompted!) about how I lost weight, what I eat etc so it is definitely a massively noticeable amount.

I'm not skinny but I look healthy and fairly slim. I'm concentrating on trying to get really fit and toned now and keep eating right and keeping my body healthy, and I'm really enjoying that challenge. A few years ago I would have rolled my eyes at anyone saying that and told them to be quiet and eat a slice of cake Blush

Do it! You won't regret it.

allfalldown47 · 10/06/2020 08:53

Op I'm your height and a little under 9 stone.
I was about 2 stone heavier after having my ds and I honestly looked like a different person!
My face looked totally different, I lost all definition and had no visible cheekbones and a saggy chin etc I just generally looked very chubby.
2 stone makes a huge difference!

teawamutu · 10/06/2020 08:54

I weighed myself at New Year and was shocked and horrified to find I was 2st more than five years ago. I'd been in denial and wearing stretchy clothes Blush

Lost 1.5st so far and the difference is massive - back in the clothes I love and feeling SO much better.

I used:
My Fitness Pal to track calories
Yoga with Adriene for daily workouts
Couch 2 5k (and I can run for 30 minutes for the first time in my life)

I'm stronger and healthier and feeling the best I have for years - still another half stone to go but I'll get there.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 10/06/2020 08:55

Go on the lockdown lose a stone thread in weightloss and you will see a picture on the last page of me going from 11.5 stone to 8 stone 11. I am 5 foot. It takes me from looking overweight to fit. It has made an immeasurable difference to my energy levels, my mood and my feelings about myself.
Its not easy, its not impossible - it is really worth it. In the first instance I really recommend Louise Parker and her Lean for Life lifestyle plan.

RandomMess · 10/06/2020 08:58

@ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything don't be disheartened!!! People that see you everyday find it much harder to notice.

My DH has lost 2.5 stone and gone from obese to overweight and yes I can see it in his face and his belly. I am SO proud of him!!! He feels much healthier and better. It started due to anxiety over Covid and he kicked his Pepsi Max habit and now is eating healthier and cycling lots.

Take it one day at a time and if you eat stuff with sweetners or sugary stuff just stop altogether- they make you crave sweet stuff and food generally. The first few weeks are hard but after that it does get so much easier.

Best of all just don't have it in the house!!!

We have it for the kids but they have their own snack box each (teens).

Redleathertrousers · 10/06/2020 08:58

Huge difference.

Justjoshin22 · 10/06/2020 09:03

Hi @Ginandtonic3
Congrats on your baby! I had a baby in January and in March started to try to lose some weight. I’m 5 ft 5 and was aiming to lose 2 stone too. I didn’t weight myself to begin with but I think I’ve lost just over a stone and have a stone to go. I feel a million times better and really notice the difference.
I think when I have lost the extra stone I’ll feel brilliant. I think a lot of it is to do with mindset.
I’ve been really trying to find a sustainable way to keep the weight off rather than diet and then put it all back on.
Mainly have been:
Jogging 4 times a week. This is more for mental benefits but to start with I couldn’t run 1 mile without stopping. Now I’m doing 15 miles a week!
Limiting carbs. So yes to toast for breakfast - but not followed up by jacket potato then pasta!
Takeaways once a month max
Slim gin and tonic instead of wine
Generally cutting out junk - I love chocolate so I won’t beat myself up if I have some but I’ll try to have half a Milky Way, for example, rather than a full size chocolate bar
Generally trying to keep to 1500 cals a day which, with a little planning, isn’t too bad at all!!
Good luck xx

A 2 stone weightless is a lot and will benefit your health.

Good luck x

namesnames · 10/06/2020 09:07

weight loss ffs

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 10/06/2020 09:10

It varies person to person, for me it's a substantial difference.

I'm 5 foot 2 and the difference between 9 stone and 11 stone for me physically is 3 dress sizes.
I'm currently a 12/14 at 11 stone. 9 stone I'm a large 8 small 10.

Elouera · 10/06/2020 09:11

@LaurieFairyCake- I have a knee problem and the specialist advised that for every 1kg of weight I can reduce overall, removes 4kg of added strain and pressure off my knee when you are walking/bending etc.

Yes, I realise 1kg isn't suddenly 4kg, and when standing, it is only 1kg. When walking/jogging though, the physical strain put on the knee during movement adds pressures equivalent to 4x the weight on each knee joint.

Manzana · 10/06/2020 09:16

I'm 5'4" and 2 years ago I weighed 12 stone, my blood sugar levels were high, pre-diabetic, and my joints ached, I felt tired a lot. Now I'm 10 stone 7 and am looking to get to 10 or under. I feel so much better, fitter, my joints don't ache anymore, I have more energy, I'm teetering on the health edge of the BMI chart and I like the way I look. So good luck it is worth getting rid of 2 stones or even some of that.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/06/2020 09:20

Thanks 😊 Elouera

BertiesLanding · 10/06/2020 09:20

I'm your height exactly, OP, and I can feel it even when I've put on a pound. And I've put on quite a few, so consequently feel rather crap. Gone from a size 6 at my smallest to a 12, which is really big for me. I'd be happy at an 8/10.

Kirschcherry · 10/06/2020 09:38

I’m 5’3 too and I’m trying to get down to about 8 and a half stone from 9 and a half, this will hopefully take me back to a comfortable 8 rather than the 10 I seem to have slid into during lockdown.

Two stone will definitely make a massive difference, but as others have said please be kind to yourself if you have just had a baby.

TillyTheTiger · 10/06/2020 09:47

I'm just under 5'10 so 2st is the point where other people start noticing the difference rather than just me. I lost 4.5st a few years ago and looked noticeably different (had another baby since and it's all gone back on again). Being thinner didn't make me any happier though, I had a saggy bum and droopy boobs and my face looked older. I'd like to lose weight again for the health benefits, but I'm under no illusion it will magically make my life all sunshine and rainbows. I'm trying to buy nicer clothes and dress for the size I am now in the meantime.

vanillandhoney · 10/06/2020 09:50

For me, it's roughly a stone per dress size. It'll make a big difference :)
