Can I just ask you for your opinion - how much of a difference will a 2 stone weight loss make?

I’m 11 stones and want to get to 9 stones.

I'm 5"10 - I was 12st 5 (healthy ish weight)
I'm now 11st 6

And it's made a bloody massive difference to how I look and feel even though I'm tall

RandomMess · 09/06/2020 23:03

If you've not long had a baby be kind to yourself! Once they get mobile and into everything I was far more active and busy!

I think the key is to try and stick to low carb stuff. When you are really tired you crave sugary pick me ups and it becomes a viscous circle of being desperate for sweet stuff.

So I guess think about what you buy and have in the house. Make time to eat low carb high protein meals before you get "starving".

Samtsirch · 09/06/2020 23:05

Yes 2 stones of weight loss will make an enormous difference, you will probably notice it in your face first, then in the rest of your body.
Break your overall aim down into smaller tasks though, to lose half a stone is an amazing accomplishment.
Focus on losing half a stone first of all, then tell yourself you need to do that three times more.

Merryoldgoat · 09/06/2020 23:07

Depends on the start point. Massive difference at 11stone to 9.

Barely noticeable at 22 stone to 19 which it my position.

raspberryk · 09/06/2020 23:15

Totally depends on height, it makes about 1 dress size difference for me depending on the clothes and what point on the scales I'm starting from, takes a bit more to break 2 dress sizes as I'm tall at 13 and a half stone I'm about a 14/16 generally. I have to be dead on 11 to be a 12 and sometimes I still need a 14. 10st and size 10 - 10 years ago.

shockedballoon · 09/06/2020 23:31

It will make a massive difference. I did exactly that last year and went from a size 12/14 to an 8/10 - and I feel so much better. I have more energy and a lot less aches and pains. I was just into overweight bmi-wise and now I'm pretty much bang on the middle of healthy range.

MereDintofPandiculation · 09/06/2020 23:34

I'm about the same height and have gone from 9st 7 to 8 st 3 - it's made a huge difference - most noticeably that I breathe easier if I curl over to cut my toenails or put socks on.

A dress with a side zip now does up easily without me feeling nervous that the zip will nip my skin.

I've lost weight from my stomach so my waistline is lower.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2020 23:51

Try packing a couple of bags with 14 pounds of something or other in each of them and carrying them up and down stairs a few times.

Now imagine having that much less to carry around all the time.

Well, except of course you'll be carrying around an ever increasing baby, so all the more reason to shed unnecessary load off yourself!Grin

ShastaBeast · 09/06/2020 23:57

It makes a big difference but not much for clothes size, but they fit and feel a lot better. I’d go from a large 12 to a comfortable 10. One thing I noticed was I still felt flabby at the lower weight as my tummy is never going to be flat again after two kids. The extra weight filled it up so it seemed less flabby than when emptier :(

Sexnotgender · 10/06/2020 07:29

A stone one me at 5' is more than one dress size, being short is a curse

I know that feeling! I’m only 5ft 1 and even a couple of pounds shows.

PrimeraVez · 10/06/2020 07:47

A big difference. I'm 5ft9 and went from 13 stone to 10 after the birth of DC2. That has taken me from a big size 14 to a steady size 10.

I look so different. My boobs are a quarter of the size they were. I have definition in my waist. My stomach overhang is almost all gone (although I still have loose skin) My face is no longer puffy with a double chin.

But for me the most important part is that I FEEL so much better. I have more confidence, I feel stronger, healthier, sexier blah blah blah.

wowfudge · 10/06/2020 08:05

I feel so much better in myself too - I've gone from a 16 to a 12, but looking and feeling better are the important things to me. I love weight training too - I have definition I have never had before, from my arms, shoulders and back to my calves.

EmbarrassedUser · 10/06/2020 08:09

A huge difference @Ginandtonic3 I’m on a diet right now and have currently lost 1st 5lbs and can really see it. My waist is visible again 🥳🥳 I’ve still got 1st 7lbs to go but it’s feeling much more doable now than at the start. Go for it!!

bigdecisionstomake · 10/06/2020 08:19

At 5'3" I should think it will make a bit difference, I'm 5'7" and lost a stone recently through illness and I went down a dress size (temporarily - all back on and a bit more now!)

As PP said, break it into smaller goals, say half a stone at a time and give yourself a little (non-food related) treat as you reach each one.

Good luck - you've got this!

Iloveappleproducts · 10/06/2020 08:20

I'm almost 11 and want to be 9
It makes a difference of over two dress sizes to me
I'm currently a large 12 and at 9 stone I'm a size 8
Only started on Monday and have lost 1 lb
I've done it before but piled the weight back on in the past year solely with eating too much ( not necessarily crap food just too much of it)

bigdecisionstomake · 10/06/2020 08:21

Should also have said, try to add a bit of weight bearing exercise at the same time as dieting as I always think this makes such a difference to the way you lose the weight, if you are toning muscle as you go. Plus with a little more muscle your metabolism will work a tiny bit faster.

Nottherealslimshady · 10/06/2020 08:23

I'm 5"3 and bounce 2.5st up and down. The first time I went up I didn't realise and couldn't see it on myself at all. But once I'd lost the weight it was like I remembered what I used to look like. Now I'm back up again and can definitely see and feel the difference.

It will make a huge difference and it's uncomfortable with an extra 2st

Eckhart · 10/06/2020 08:24

It will make a huge difference, but, if you're struggling with motivation, you don't have to worry about it. This week, just motivate yourself to lose 1lb. That's all you have to do. Motivate yourself for next week next week!

burnoutbabe · 10/06/2020 08:24

At my height of 6 foot losing a stone means no real change, still in size 16 clothes they just feel looser.
Which I suppose is a blessing as I can put on a stone and not look much different either!

Tootle10 · 10/06/2020 08:25

I lost just under 2 stone after having my DS last year. I'm 5ft 4inch and I went from not being able to squeeze into any of my size 10 jeans to being able to fit into a size 8. For me it was the difference between feeling overweight and unhappy with myself to being 'slim.'

Key thing for me was diet and loosely calorie counting (and breastfeeding helped too).

JustC · 10/06/2020 08:26

A massive diff, especially at this height OP. I'm pretty much the same height and have dropped a stone over the last 9 months and can see a difference in the mirror and in old clothes that I had stopped wearing. I can't face dieting at 38, i want to enjoy the little pleasures, so have just made small changes: cut down on wine, sweets and bread(cannot cut either out completly, it just make my cravings worse). We bought a treadmill as I was quick to use weather as an excuse not to go out for walks. Good luck!

Malin52 · 10/06/2020 08:27

I went from 14 st 6 to 12 and a bit stone. 5ft7. The difference is immense. Clothes are comfortable and look better. Flexibility and stamina has increased. Ankles, feet and knees no longer niggly or painful.

Looking to get rid of another stone and a half.

Oblomov20 · 10/06/2020 08:28

I'm similar. Absolutely huge difference. I'm at my biggest now. Sad

KellyHall · 10/06/2020 08:30

I'm 5'3" too!

At the start of lockdown I was 11st 12lb, now I'm 10st 5lb and aiming for 10st, to just tuck in to the healthy weight range for my height! I feel lighter, more energised and all of my clothes fit again.

I'm 37 this year. I found an old Wii profile that said I was 27 years old and weighed 9st 7lb, that's a great incentive, to know I've been much lighter before. I think of food in terms of quality fuel and treat myself by being as healthy as possible during the pandemic.
