Neighbours Hot Tub

Hi all
Just had our new build garden landscaped and its finally looking great after a lot of hard work by me.
The neighbours across from us have just installed a hot tub which they have been using every day/night in the good weather. However, as the fence is wooden (it is 6ft high) you can see through the slats into their garden. Every time I'm in my garden when they are using it they give us evil looks through the fence and generally make us feel like we shouldn't be in our garden when they are in the hot tub. If I'm honest I also feel uncomfortable being out there when I know they are in it.
Surely the onus is on the person who installed the hot tub to provide some sort of privacy screening if they are that bothered about being seen? I mean like willow/bamboo screening on their side of the fence.
I'm gutted that I can't go out and enjoy my garden without feeling like some kind of perv.
It's currently being used until the late hours and keeping my children awake with the noise they are making. Honestly, why are some neighbours so oblivious to their behaviour?
Does anyone have a hot tub? How have you provided privacy and does it bother you if your neighbours are out in their garden when you are using it?
On the plus side it does not look like a permanent structure so hopefully will be gone once the spell of good weather is over!

Honestly I'm not watching them! Haha

Then how come you know they are giving you evil looks?
I have a gap filled hedge and whenever I’m gardening and the neighbours are in their garden I don’t even look in their direction, I just do my own thing.

HollySideEyes · 09/06/2020 07:05

Sounds vile.

I wonder what's floating in there 🤮.

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/06/2020 07:53

Read 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*' and enjoy your garden.

notsureofname · 09/06/2020 08:07

@ProfYaffle -why the need to mention that drunken friend was Irish ? Do you think that his nationality gives a clearer picture cos we all know what Irish drunks are like as opposed to any other drunk.

HollySideEyes · 09/06/2020 08:10

I thought that notsureofname, wondered why the nationality was worthy of mention?

Boulshired · 09/06/2020 08:39

I have 6ft fences, but it’s still natural instinct to look at the direction of noise heard, even if you cannot see anything. It could be a case of you both thinking you are giving the evils to each other and both staring.

bluefoxmug · 09/06/2020 08:41

food colouring in a water pistol to turn the water algea green/brown?

VettiyaIruken · 09/06/2020 08:47

Don't look through your fence then you won't see them scowling.
Use your garden as much as you want to.

HeIsAVeryBadBoy · 09/06/2020 08:47

I can see the appeal of a big jacuzzi bath all to myself though.

Which is exactly what mine is really. It's a jacuzzi outside, in the countryside, where I can lie, by myself, watching the stars. Bliss.

Glitterb · 09/06/2020 08:55

I would find something to cover from your end, like terrace or bamboo sheets.

I am looking for some for my fence as my neighbours is a complete arse.

AtaMarie · 09/06/2020 09:17

"If I were you I'd make a point of using my garden MORE than usual. They have absolutely NO RIGHT to glare at you for using YOUR garden."

Exactly. And please sing tunelessly and repetitively while you're at it.

GnomeDePlume · 09/06/2020 09:40

I think OP spent £6k

The fence was explained, put in by the developer: not close boarded so there are gaps between planks.

TBH a few extra pounds on screening will be the easiest way to go for all concerned.

But still cant see the appeal of hot tubs, why take a bath outside? All that sitting around in water getting wrinkly!

Nottherealslimshady · 09/06/2020 09:44

What @TimeTravellersHat said.
Maybe even lick your lips if you catch them scowling at you through the slats Grin

ScrapThatThen · 09/06/2020 09:57

Do you enjoy listening to music or radio? I think I would put on some big sunglasses, stick my headphones or a speaker (on quiet) so I could mentally screen them out. The novelty will wear off.

TabbyMumz · 09/06/2020 10:13

My neighbour has installed one yesterday, literally inches from our fence, which means it's about 6 inches from our patio doors and pretty much right under our bedroom window. Watching this thread with bated breath.

ProfYaffle · 09/06/2020 10:53

@notsureofname - I mentioned the accent as it is unusual for this area and stuck in my memory. As it would have done if she's been Welsh, or French or German. The fact that she was drunk also stuck in my memory as it was 7am on a Sunday morning.

Maybe there are other areas where people sing drunken hymns loudly in a variety of accents every Sunday morning. Maybe where I live is hopelessly pedestrian. Who knows.

Troels · 09/06/2020 11:16

When they catch your eye to give you the evils, shout, Hi how are you enjoying the sex pond, we are thinking of getting one too, but still not sure. Keep smiling they will put up screening in no time.
My Dh hates them, he calls them people soup.

notsureofname · 09/06/2020 11:20

@ProfYafle-Crap ! So it's now every Sunday morning singing hymns. Don't want to derail original thread, but am calling you out as racist.

IAmReportingYouForBBQing · 09/06/2020 11:29

I have a lazyspa, I love it. But ours is on the 3x7m patio, we have a large shade sail that is 4x3m above it and we have clipped lightweight blankets around the edge of the sail. But that is only becuase I hot tub naked and the neighbours reaally do not need to see my fat white arse bobbing like an apple. I have just ordered a top of the range maldives hot tub with hydrojets that is huge compared to my tiny vegas. I am upgrading my anti-perve protection too and will be getting a car port style cover for the whole patio and fitting waterproof shower curtains all the way around so we have flexibility. and privacy when needed.

And for people saying what is the appeal? I live in a house with no bath. I have rheumatoid arthritis and suffer quite bad pain in my joints. Having the hot tub set up permanantly means that I have halved my pain killer usage. It is total and utter bliss. I do not use the bubbles as it sounds like a jet taking off but I do happily just float about for 20-30 mintes 2-4 times a day .

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 09/06/2020 11:38

Have you asked them if they have an issue? Or are you just perceiving them to have an issue?

It’s very odd, but it seems you are the one with the issue not them, if your uncomfortable with them seeing into your garden then take measures or ask if they have an issue.

Do you speak to your neighbours at all.

It’s all very odd.

GnomeDePlume · 09/06/2020 11:46

top of the range maldives hot tub with hydrojets that is huge compared to my tiny vegas

I had to read that twice!

changedmynameforlockdown · 09/06/2020 11:48

@IAmReportingYouForBBQing where have you managed to buy a hot tub from, I am finding them sold out everywhere!

I'm used to using the gym outside hot tub and really enjoy it so would like one for my garden. I would put it under a gazebo though!

Nevertouchakoala · 09/06/2020 11:50

Give them evils back!!! You have every right to enjoy your garden as do they their own garden.

ncailleach · 09/06/2020 11:59

My neighbour got something like this to stop her dog from eying up my hens! www.wish.com/product/5eba5794837af8623a1d7651. Not sure if link works, just Google green garden screening. It's cheap and hard to see through.

HairyFloppins · 09/06/2020 12:27

We have similar fences. We are going to put some screen up as our pain in the arse noisy neighbours have a hot tub and we are selling soon and I wan't to cover it up from potential buyers.

I also look at any new house that if the neighbours have a hot tub I wont be buying it.
