Do I need to stockpile Heinz ketchup?

Word has it that US food ‘standards’ - high fructose corn syrup in everything, GMOs, artificial colours and flavours etc - will be making their way to the UK.

As an example, I’ve tried the Heinz ketchup in the US and found it disgusting...sickly sweet. Ingredients attached.

Qs:

• Is there a chance that Heinz ketchup sold in the UK will become Americanized?
• What other non-perishable foods night this affect? (I know about the travesty of chlorinated chicken)

I quite like the Tesco Organic Ketchup. We alternate between Heinz and that. So maybe if it comes to that you can switch to a diff brand?

I’ve tried normal Tesco ketchup and I can detect the tomato purée (rather than tomato) straight away, so I’m assuming the organic version is the same. But I’m open to other ketchup variants should it come to it.

Well they’ve ruined Cadbury chocolate so I wouldn’t be surprised .

Without doing a taste test I can't comment on the flavour of the US version, but the ingredients aren't really that different. Fructose syrup is a sugar.

American popular foodstuffs are mostly full of crap and taste vile, so you’re not being unreasonable.

I would recommend looking at Aldi and Lidl brand foods. I buy all my chocolate from them as the ones I buy don’t contain, palm oil/corn syrup. They also sell an organic ketchup too.

You know it's OK to go and buy as much as you think you'll eat before it goes out of date, no need to ask permission , fill ya boots (or in this case cupboards) but by posting this you might encourage panic buying so defeating the object.

Heinz responsible for the brilliant marketing scam involving salad cream. Said demand was in freefall and they might have to stop making it. Cue rush to shops to clear the shelves, leading to news reports so the shelves were cleared all over again. People who'd forgotten all about salad cream rushed out to get some before it disappeard and remembered how much they liked it, so kept on buying it.

Only if your government allows it. The US has no power to modify your food regulations. Speak up to your MP's if you don't want it to happen.

Or find an alternative condiment. I can’t think of any foods that I eat that would be improved if I were to put ketchup on them.

All the ketchups I've tried in other countries were very odd. Or I found they tasted peculiar and not like the ketchup I was used to in the UK.

HFCS really is vile. It's not just sugar.

If people simply do not buy adapted products manufactured to lower US standards the manufacturers wont keep selling them. It may mean people need to choose British or European brands for quite a while in order to buy food that isn't horrific. These may feel expensive next to US junk at rock bottom prices but shouldn't be more relatively than you spend now.
