I hate confrontation but I'm getting a bit tired of my neighbours taking the mick:

  • constant litter
  • throwing cigarette butts on my side of the drive rather than getting an ash tray.
  • child playing on my side of the drive right next to my car rather than playing on his own side.
  • fence fallen down, not the fence bordering my house but it looks terrible.
  • grass never mown and no weeding/weed killer so my garden needs a lot more work because they spread.
  • they use my outdoor tap without asking.
  • they smoke on my drive and under my kitchen window.

They are nice people in general but ahhhhhh!

Planters to separate the drive?
Throw butts back over every time.
Tap lock.

Ohlordysugarandspice · 06/06/2020 18:32

Unfortunately the drive is slightly too narrow to add planters but that would have been a good idea. I do kick the cigarette butts back to their side but I doubt they notice.

Tap lock. Concrete planters or low chain link fence to trip them up. Throw fag butts back.
I’ll swap you neighbours for mine who thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to leave their open bin bags on my garden and park on my drive in front of my car. .... wouldn’t mind but they have two huge driveways and I have a piddling small one which just takes two small cars one behind the other ..... grrrrrr

AriadnesFilament · 06/06/2020 18:34

Water gun out of the window for the smoking on your property?

AlwaysCheddar · 06/06/2020 18:35

You’re paying for them to use your water! CFs.

Ohlordysugarandspice · 06/06/2020 18:37

Bargebill - they sound awful.

I don't want to trip them up or squirt them with a water pistol. I'd never do that.

Windyatthebeach · 06/06/2020 18:40

Park off the drive for a week and leave planters making a divide.
I would rather lose the drive than have it a mess..

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/06/2020 18:42

Get an internal stop tap for the garden tap. Only turn it on when you need to use it.

Ohlordysugarandspice · 06/06/2020 18:43

Windy - they'd still litter there and throw cigarette butts in and over the planters though so it would be pointless. Plus I have no planters so I'm not spending money on them.

OP posts:
Windyatthebeach · 06/06/2020 18:44

Bag up and leave on their doorstep...

OldEvilOwl · 06/06/2020 18:44

Can't you turn the tap off when your not using it? I can turn mine off under the kitchen sink

Ohlordysugarandspice · 06/06/2020 18:47

I'll have a look if I can turn the tap off. I don't know. I'd feel bad as a different neighbour uses it too but they did ask to use it and they don't take the mick at all.

Are you on a meter OP?

Ohlordysugarandspice · 06/06/2020 20:14

I'm not on a meter but there's cladding behind the tap which is coming away as the tap is used a lot and it's getting wet (I barely use the tap myself). I'm getting a meter when lockdown is lifted as it'll be cheaper as a single person.

Smallsteps88 · 06/06/2020 20:20

Can’t you put up a fence or chain between your drives/gardens?

Somanysocks · 06/06/2020 20:36

I've got that taplock, it will stop cheeky use but as it's plastic can easily be knocked apart at the hinge if they're really that bad.

SpillTheTeaa · 06/06/2020 20:41

That would annoy me massively. It's just inconsiderate.
My mums old NDN we're building an extension and had to take the fence down and they were using our garden tap to fill their buckets up! My mum went mad and turned off all the water.

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 06/06/2020 20:59

@SpillTheTeaa turned off all the water
Hmm

Collaborate · 06/06/2020 21:00

Can't you put a fence up between both properties?

StoneofDestiny · 06/06/2020 21:02

Cover your tap with bags and tape and tell them all it no longer works. If you don't use it you won't miss it.

Bargebill19 · 06/06/2020 21:15

Oooo I like the water gun idea .... I might be watering my plants a lot in the future. ...

Still1nLove · 06/06/2020 21:35

If they’re nice people in general, could you just have a word with them about the buts, and say you’re worried about the kids damaging your car, or hurting themselves in your garden? Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about them maintaining their own garden and fence and maybe that is why their kids play in your drive. Install a tap lock and tell them it’s because you are having a meter fitted.

Bootikin · 06/06/2020 22:16

Honestly sorry, you sound like a doormat, no wonder they are taking the piss.

MadameMeursault · 06/06/2020 23:07

Why would you not ask them to stop smoking under your kitchen window? That’s disgusting, and it’s a perfectly reasonable request to ask them to stop.
