AIBU?

Attending BLM protests?

I am wondering if anyone has attended today or planning to go to any of the protests being organised around the country this weekend.

I am debating going tomorrow. I would maintain social distancing and wear a mask. In ordinary times I would be there without a second's thought but these aren't ordinary times.

Some photos from today on Twitter look well organised, distanced etc.

I wfh and live with one other person - currently furloughed - who would also be at the protest, so I feel we are low risk of spreading.

I'm still a bit torn. So I suppose AIBU to attend?

All these people going on about his past, yet Britain was happy to elect their current prime minister who conspired to get someone beaten up, is an absent father, did all the Bullington club shenanigans and is a racist. If past sins are so important, why is the current PM not squeaky clean?Hmm

@Devlesko, you claimed that he was living a violent criminal life now and would have spent several years in prison. Yet his last violent offence was 13 years ago. Why won't you admit that what you said was rubbish?

"So he didn't threaten a pregnant woman with a gun to her unborn child?"
Yes he did, during a robbery.

13 years ago, since when he has never been convicted of any violent crime.

@TabbyMumz, that very salient fact has been pointed out to you before, yet you continue to ignore it. Clearly it doesn't suit your personal agenda. I wonder why?

Boris J is not a racist.

He still did. The question was:

"So he didn't threaten a pregnant woman with a gun to her unborn child?"

The correct answer to that is "yes, he did"

Dont try to change history.

"And who the hell calls emergency services out for a suspected fake note? Police in Minneapolis can't have much on if that is an emergency call."

It was procedure to call them. Normally the person with the fake note has gone, but this time he was hanging around outside. The transcript from the caller was..
"The man is sitting on his car and is awfully drunk and not in control of himself. He is not acting right".
This is why the police came. When they arrived, he was sitting in the drivers seat.

Aside from the racist things he's said..

Devlesko is the one trying to change history by claiming he would've spent the rest of his life in jail.

I'm absolutely no fan of Boris Johnson, he is a bellend and probably is quite racist. But it does piss me off a bit when people take the 'picaninies' and 'watermelon smiles' comments out of context. I wonder how many people have actually read the articles in which those things were said? And then people like Owen Jones say 'Boris thinks we should all call black people piccaninnies' and people just blindly follow it without ever looking at what he actually said.

@Xenia

Where in the bible does it say to let the old and sick die so you can make money?

Report
Xenia · 10/06/2020 16:08

Nowhere. However if putting our all into the old and sick means 66m who are mostly not old nor sick suffer even worse is not necessarily the greater good.

Report
Xenia · 10/06/2020 16:09

Also we can no longer look after the old and sick nor pay 1.4m NHS workers and 500,000 teachers' wages if we don't have private sector workers working full time with nurseries and schools fully open so parents can work.

Being physically or mentally ‘sick’ does not automatically mean you are unemployed or on benefits or reliant on the state.
Even people who are ‘sick in the head’ (as in, they are not unwell but have truly despicable personal characteristics) work and walk among us; retail workers, childcare providers and lawyers etc.

^^ To add to my above point, even if you are unwell and reliant on the state, that’s what it is there for and I am more than willing for my taxes to go towards an income, social care and healthcare. That’s what society is all about.

I've read the articles in question, and those terms are undoubtedly still racist within that context.

It will be interesting to read everyone's excuse for not going

I don't want to. There, is that interesting?

A look at the BLM website might give some reason not to want to be involved whilst still being against racism.

The movement is not just about ending racism.
