AIBU to ask what day you would all consider the ‘first day’ if your period?

Hey all.

So need some advice.

What day would you consider the 1st day of your period? I am starting clomid and need to take it on the 2nd day of my period.

At the moment (sorry for TMI) I have aches and brown blood very very light. Is this classed as the first day?

Or tomorrow when I bleed heavier and it’s red?

Thank you in advance xx

I would consider today the first day. Good luck with the clomid, I took it to conceive 11 years ago. It worked by the way.

PolkaDotsPolka · 04/06/2020 17:09

I would say my period starts on the day I first see any blood, so I would consider today the 1st day of yours.

Jjou · 04/06/2020 17:09

I usually count the first day of my period as when it’s heavy enough to wear a pad/tampon.
Good luck with the clomid Flowers

Winnipegdreamer · 04/06/2020 17:12

I consider the first day when I have enough blood to wear a cup.

Stabbitha · 04/06/2020 17:13

Today is day one. If it happened late evening I'd carry it over tho.

Elouera · 04/06/2020 17:13

I use the ovia app to track AF. If I ever have a small amount of spotting, the app doesn't count this as the beginning, but instead only logs it as period on the day I click on the 'period' option rather than the spotting.

Sorry, I realise that doesn't help much, but if its very light, I'd likely say tomorrow is day 1. Is there any info in the pack? I too would think if you need a pad or tampon, then that is period.

Standrewsschool · 04/06/2020 17:16

I would consider the first day as the first day I see blood, whatever colour.

cosmo30 · 04/06/2020 17:18

I was told the first day of a full flow. It's hard when you're spotting isn't it as you'd think the first sign of blood is the first day but it can be off and on before it properly flows

ToothFairyNemesis · 04/06/2020 17:18

I would wait until tomorrow because days 3-7 is absolutely fine for clomid where as days 1-6 are not.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 04/06/2020 17:19

I never counted the brown spotting as day one, as sometimes I had a couple of days like that, until it started properly.

ToothFairyNemesis · 04/06/2020 17:20

Sort I meant wait until the day after tomorrow so Saturday.

TooTiredTodayOk · 04/06/2020 17:20

I'd count the first day of a full flow as my period.

I always have some light spotting up to 3 days before my period, not heavy enough to wear a tampon or towel, I don't count that as my period.

Chrisinthemorning · 04/06/2020 17:22

I used to have a lot of premenstrual spirting while ttc, for up to a week before my period.
For clomid day one is the first day of red full flow, not brown spotting.
I did clomid for 6 months plus.

Elephant10 · 04/06/2020 17:25

When I was undergoing fertility treatments (IUI/IVF) my clinics advice was that day 1 was red blood, reasonable flow before 5pm. Scant spotting / brown blood definitely not day 1.

Laiste · 04/06/2020 17:29

On 'Fertility Friend' the fertility tracking website (great if anyone needs to keep track of ovulation ect) the choice is:

Spotting
Light
Medium
Heavy

Only inputting light, medium or heavy triggers the new chart.

SkinSkin · 04/06/2020 17:30

Showing my age here but the rule of thumb always used to be (and has never failed me over many decades):

First sign of anything (regardless of colour)
is day 1 but only after 12 noon.

For example, if you see something at 2pm you count day 1 as starting from the following day.

SkinSkin · 04/06/2020 17:31

But I always was a 28 day cycle with a 7 day period so that might make a difference!

raspberryk · 04/06/2020 17:34

I only ever count day 1 as full flow

beachbreeze · 04/06/2020 17:36

I don't count the spotting as I get that a couple of days before my period. Only since I've had the coil, before that my periods arrived bright and heavy.

choosesoap · 04/06/2020 17:36

fertility clinic said day 1 was when you had red blood showing.

Candycrush426 · 04/06/2020 17:52

Thank you everyone. I will keep an eye on it till about 9pm if it doesn’t get any heavier I won’t count it as day 1. Seems the general consensus on here for those who have take clomid is red blood flow is day 1 x

I always count it from the first sight of blood, even if old/brown blood first. I would suggest that it’s day 1 (hormonally) today for you. If I’m doubt, ask your consultant. And best wishes TTC

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 04/06/2020 18:14

Brown blood is old blood, so I would count day 1 as when there is red blood

Nottherealslimshady · 04/06/2020 18:20

I'd class tomorrow as day 1, today is just spotting I think. As others have said, on my app, spotting is classed with discharge, not with periods.

squirrelnutkins1 · 04/06/2020 18:27

For Clomide day 1 is your first day of proper red flow.
