To JUST use condoms?

How many of you rely solely on condoms and have been fine (as in no unplanned pregnancies?)

Realising that pretty much every hormonal contraception disagrees with me and I’m fed up of it. I really want to give my body a break and just use condoms, particularly as we are likely to want to start a family in the next few years (not right now though!)

GP was horrified at the thought of me getting my implant removed and not taking the pill or anything instead. Felt like a naughty teenager!!!

Interested to know whether this is an ‘unwise’ thing to do if we don’t want a baby right now or probably ok? The side effects are bad with every pill or contraption I have had so I almost think I’ll just have to risk it!!

If you've found this page in search of condoms that have been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best condoms useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

Only ever used condoms, 20+ years. One failure (torn) and I took the MAP afterwards. No unwanted pregnancies.

I stopped the pill before dc1 (now 15) was born. Condoms only since then, never had a failure and have only ever got pregnant when I wanted to.

@PuntoEBasta

Thanks.

Used just condoms for 15 years, never had one spilt/come off/etc. Don’t understand why they are so unpopular

Cahira · 04/06/2020 12:45

Condoms only for the last 8 years. No issues or unplanned pregnancies.

Roomba · 04/06/2020 12:59

I managed fine with just condoms for about 13 years. Had to take the MAP twice during that time due to breakages, not bad going for 13 years?

I got pregnant twice in 7 years when taking the combined pill regularly and absolutely correctly. So I prefer contraception that I could physically see!

if you're going to use natural family planning whether alone or in conjunction with anything else DO NOT just use an app

Agreed! This is how my DC ended up with a little (half)sister apparently.

Condom only. The pill turned me into a depressed constantly crying mess.

Alyssum34456 · 04/06/2020 13:57

I'm now on condoms since giving birth. So done with having a pill in my body. It does make me feel nervous though and I'm currently waiting for my period wondering if it worked. Confused
