To think Dominic West is a bad actor?

I've just started watching The Affair and, dont get me wrong, I'm not saying the man isn't beautiful or that the shown isn't brilliant!

But does anyone else find his acting kind of wooden and cringy? Or is it just the character...or the terrible american accent?

Too good as Fred West, I cant look at him the same since!! He’s v funny in Brassic though (and was awesome as McNulty in The Wire!).

He was amazing in The Wire. Have a dodgy crush on Dominic West because he looks very much like my Dad.

Yes I've loved everything he's been in (Affair, Wire) and really like him but he's an awful actor. Is it just because he's usually playing an American and his accent is shit?

Agree with PPs he was good as Fred West, I warmed to him in Brassic after initailly thinking he was really miscast and he's really sexy (and convincing) as McNulty. Good in Pride too - that dance scene takes some beating.

Have you noticed that his face is totally unremarkable and then . . . . the smile. He lights up. The total opposite to Damien Lewis, who looks absolutely amazing UNTIL he smiles, then the magic is broken.

He played Richard Burton to Helena Bonham Carter’s Liz Taylor. They look nothing like them!

likeafishneedsabike it also goes for Kiera Knightley. She has such a crooked smile it ruins her face.

He's done so many varied roles, I think he's really talented - True Blue and 300 are excellent.

He was fantastic in The Wire but I re watched a couple of episodes of The Affair and agree that he's a bit 2 dimensional in it (I didn't notice first time around). He's one of those actors where I don't think it matters though! He's so...watchable.

I was lucky enough to see him and Clarke Peters in Othello at Sheffield Crucible he was great. Afterwards me and DH were sat round wondering where to go next when DH said "I can see Domic West with no top on". There he was getting changed near a window, then he came out to sign autographs. Talk about a polite stampede of flushed middle aged women!

He was brilliant in Appropriate Adult not so much in The Affair.

I don't know if he is a crap actor, but he is definitely watchable. He was amazing as Fred West. His character is so unlikeable and predictable in the Affair that maybe it translates into a 2D performance. I don't know.

I think I agree about The Affair but I loved him in The Wire, Les Miserables and The Hour. One of my favourite actors. And totally hot.

Wow theres some hot dads and uncles around. I tried to watch the affair but its just not very good. Suppose hes gotta pay the rent like everyone else.

I have seen him IRL and he looks like a toad; it's his straight mouth I think. I still would though

I haven't seen him in much other than the affair. Really liked that show but he had some poor moments in it where his co stars were really carrying things.

His American accent has always been awful but he was good in the wire.
