I've just started watching The Affair and, dont get me wrong, I'm not saying the man isn't beautiful or that the shown isn't brilliant!

But does anyone else find his acting kind of wooden and cringy? Or is it just the character...or the terrible american accent?

I've not noticed any terrible accents I remember being surprised to learn he was British when I first watched The Wire!

Redwinestillfine · 03/06/2020 21:34

Have you not seen the wire??

Jillyhilly · 03/06/2020 22:03

Great in The Wire, but can’t stand him in The Affair.

He lives opposite me. That’s my one claim to fame.

Redyellowpink · 03/06/2020 22:04

I haven't seen The Wire, maybe he's only bad in The Affair

Enjoyed his performance in Pride (2014). Brilliant film all round, if you haven’t seen it.

user1471565182 · 03/06/2020 22:12

he does that vexed raised eyebrow thing for everything.

InDubiousBattle · 03/06/2020 22:27

Me too Anotherthink, the first time I saw him in something after The Wire, i remember saying to dp 'Dominic West has a good English accent!'. Then I got more confused because he's from Sheffield but has a Southern accent!

You need to watch The Wire op.

Starksforthewin · 03/06/2020 22:32

I’ve watched all seasons of The Affair and I think he really grows in the role, showing depths to the character that are not obvious in the first season.
There is a very dodgy/rubbish season (I think it is 3?) but don’t give up. The final season is mainly wonderful, with the exception of the storyline involving Anna Paquin. No spoiler, I haven’t said her role/character.
The cast is out there. 😀

Northernsoullover · 03/06/2020 22:35

I think he's fab. Post lock down party at yours @Jillyhilly Grin?

Redyellowpink · 03/06/2020 22:40

Doesn't he live in a castle?

Ye hes another one whos come out of the complete reverse in social mobility within acting. Went to Eton

user1471565182 · 03/06/2020 23:12

And sensitively described being sent to Eton as 'like being labelled a paedophile' or 'like losing your parents'.

EggGarnish · 03/06/2020 23:14

I can’t watch him after he played Fred west in an appropriate adult so he must be doing something right.

JediJim · 03/06/2020 23:14

Regarding The Affair, I do wonder why they used British actors...

Joans3rddaughter · 03/06/2020 23:19

Stick with The Affair. Its worth watching for thd actor that plays Cole. He's absolutely gorgeous. I was hooked.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/06/2020 23:20

He was brilliant in The Wire and Appropriate Adult but haven't liked him in anything else

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 03/06/2020 23:26

Too good as Fred West, I cant look at him the same since!!

Same! And someone on here once said he looked like he should be Simon from Corrie’s dad. That ruined it for me, as he was a right annoying little bugger Grin

Gingernaut · 03/06/2020 23:27

Check out his performance in Pride.

Loved thid film.

MrsTommyShelby · 03/06/2020 23:33

Absolutely love him in Brassic. Had me in stitches.

Shinynewcoin · 04/06/2020 00:03

Didn't he do a Dolmio ad? Very surprised to see him in that!

GertrudeCB · 04/06/2020 00:07

I had an incredibly fruity dream about him once ......
