Weird title I know. Apologies.
But myself and OH were just discussing my legs. Or more specifically my foot.
I was stretching my leg/foot out (as one does) and he jumped in horror saying 'Ew, that's disgusting?' After much questioning it transpires that I can bend my foot down enough with an outstretched leg so that it's just one straight line (hard to explain).
He tried it and his ankles won't go halfway near to a straight line with his leg.
Is it men? Is it me (dancer all my youth) or can everybody but him do it and I'm not a freak?

Weird that all the ladies can but some men can't! His is at a 45 degree angle at best.

Ow ow ow cramp.

GuiltyBark · 02/06/2020 20:36

Yup and I'm not that limber and haven't danced in years!

ChristmasCarcass · 02/06/2020 20:36

I can do it, DS can do it (though he is three and can also squat with feet flat on the ground). Off to ask DH, who is the only dancer in the house.

GimmeAy · 02/06/2020 20:37

I hope you twatted him for calling any part of you 'disgusting'! No but he'll be getting an outstretched leg from me from now on whenever he pisses me off. Grin

I can do it too and am certainly not a dancer !
Disappointed that there is no one else here that I can ask Sad

Doyoumind · 02/06/2020 20:38

I don't understand how some people can't do this. What happens to their feet when they are swimming if they can't? How far down do they go?

canigooutyet · 02/06/2020 20:39

My legs are very flexible. I’ve sometimes found myself in positions wondering how I did it. I don’t do yoga or Pilates, just stretch daily to help relieve pain and discomfort.

I can do the splits, crab, the belly roll thing where you have to hold your ankles etc. None of the dc’s can do these, not even the bendy boys.

We can all do the thumb bent back and other weird things with our fingers and thumbs. Oh and toe crossing.

Frlrlrubert · 02/06/2020 20:39

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

Cramp here too!

I can do it.
DH can't.

I'd generally say he's much fitter and more flexible than me. Though I used to be bendy (not splits bendy, but bend over backwards into the crab bendy) when I was younger.

ClassicCola · 02/06/2020 20:40

I can but it gives me cramp.

MustGetOutofBed · 02/06/2020 20:40

I can, and I am definitely not flexible!

nomorelove · 02/06/2020 20:41

I can and am not even flexible

RainbowGlittersandSparkles · 02/06/2020 20:41

I can but I practice yoga 🧘‍♀️

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 02/06/2020 20:42

I can. Fat and unbendy.

MaeDanvers · 02/06/2020 20:42

I must be stupid but I don’t understand! Is everyone lifting their leg off the ground and pointing their feet?

GimmeAy · 02/06/2020 20:42

Maybe muscles tighter in men or something? Or ligaments not as stretchy?

OP posts:
Trevsadick · 02/06/2020 20:43

I can. Dp can't.

I am not a dancer. I am, however a kickboxing, and spend at least 45 min a day stretching.

But even when I started kickboxing I could do this.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 02/06/2020 20:43

Me, DH and DS can all do it very easily.

GimmeAy · 02/06/2020 20:44

Yes Mae - point your toe straight (or downwards). OH can't get to a straight position as ankle won't flex that much.

OP posts:
weegiemum · 02/06/2020 20:45

I can do it on my right leg.

On my left, with my reconstructed ankle, not a hope!

GimmeAy · 02/06/2020 20:46

He is now trying his damndest to do it and getting a cramp too lol. And he's no further either.

OP posts:
choosesoap · 02/06/2020 20:47

tell him he will have issues when older as ankle mobility is important and will impact his balance when hes older. he'll end up a shuffling old man and falling over a lot.Shock time to take up some mobility exercises!

GimmeAy · 02/06/2020 20:48

What clenches when you do it is your calf muscle. Well I've never thought about this before now, but I'm trying to understand how you can't.

OP posts:
TeaStory · 02/06/2020 20:49

Yes, easily. I didn’t realise people might not be able to. I was diagnosed with hypermobility syndrome in my early thirties, so my idea of what is normal range of motion isn’t quite right. It was only when diagnosed that all those people over the years saying, “Doesn't that hurt?!” made sense!

SoupDragon · 02/06/2020 20:51

I can do it with no effort at all and I am no dancer or gymnast.
