Settle an argument - can you form a straight line from knee to toe?

Weird title I know. Apologies.
But myself and OH were just discussing my legs. Or more specifically my foot.
I was stretching my leg/foot out (as one does) and he jumped in horror saying 'Ew, that's disgusting?' After much questioning it transpires that I can bend my foot down enough with an outstretched leg so that it's just one straight line (hard to explain).
He tried it and his ankles won't go halfway near to a straight line with his leg.
Is it men? Is it me (dancer all my youth) or can everybody but him do it and I'm not a freak?

I can do it, its a natural resting position for me. No dance/gym background, but im reasonably flexible.

DH can't do it but the man is so bloody unbendy it's a joke.

bubblev · 02/06/2020 21:25

@horehound is what I was thinking! So what does it look like if you can't do it?

canigooutyet · 02/06/2020 21:27

Lying down with both feet slightly in the air, ballet toes and hold for as long as possible, is awesome for the abs.

Come to think of it, when I’m on isolation stretching becomes another automatic thing like doing the pelvic floor one.

megletthesecond · 02/06/2020 21:28

Yes, I can do it, am 46. Never been a dancer. Although people have asked me if I did dance when I was younger, I think Pilates and martial arts have been very good for my posture and flexibility.

bubblev · 02/06/2020 21:28

Thanks all, I assumed this was normal. off to check DH 😂

GimmeAy · 02/06/2020 21:29

Definitely seems to be a few men who can't do it, probably as someone said, due to muscles built up.

I'd sign him up to yoga when it reopens only downward dog would be sure to induce a vomit worthy loud fart from his arse. He can't seem to move without farting either.

I can do the foot but not the toes, but I have badly broken bones in my feet and toes and my toes have sort of fused

lottiegarbanzo · 02/06/2020 21:33

Yes of course and I'm not particularly flexible or a dancer, it's just normal.

Swimming front crawl would surely be difficult and ineffecient, without straight feet?

MillicentMartha · 02/06/2020 21:33

I can do it and so can my DS. We’re not exactly flexible or even slim! My big toe bends up a bit, though.

giantangryrooster · 02/06/2020 21:33

Of course I can Smile, bet your dh cannot stretch his legs straight either or reach the floor with straight legs (my dh can't) Grin.

bubblev · 02/06/2020 21:34

I did loads of dance & am quite flexible.

Here's one to try, get on all fours & see which way do your inner elbows face, mine naturally turn forward.

zscaler · 02/06/2020 21:34

I can do this (very far from a dancer!) but my husband can’t. He is incredibly inflexible though, so possibly not representative.

tildaMa · 02/06/2020 21:35

I can do it, not a dancer.
But I'm generally quite flexible, had no problem bending down and touching the floor without bending my knees over a 36w bump. Without a bump I can put my hands flat on the floor or stand on stairs and touch the step below.

Eminybob · 02/06/2020 21:36

I’m picturing households up and down the country all flexing their ankles in unison Grin

DH and I can both do it. Although this has lead to the discovery that DH can’t straighten his legs fully when lying on the floor with them raised at 90 degrees.

ElectricTonight · 02/06/2020 21:38

@Nottherealslimshady Love your name btw!

DH can't do it! Is it to do with instep?

He's a great swimmer (was asked to go pro as a kid) though. Size 12 feet & flat as fuck so essentially flippers!

GimmeAy · 02/06/2020 21:38

I got onto floor and elbows face inwards!

OP posts:
bubblev · 02/06/2020 21:39

@gimmeay inner or outer elbows?

steppemum · 02/06/2020 21:40

no, I can't do it.

It isn't male/female, it is how your joints are made. I was also a dancer for a while, and no matter, I could not stretch the ankle joint to get a straight line. In fact if you drew a line from my knee, it would dip down into my ankle and then up my foot.

I was curious with my kids to see how their feet were, and ds can and dd 1 can't. dd2 is about half way between the other 2!

CuntyMcBollocks · 02/06/2020 21:41

I can and I'm not a dancer. Have always been rather flexible though

bubblev · 02/06/2020 21:42

Mine do the first image so I have to actively turn them back round as bad or joints

steppemum · 02/06/2020 21:42

and I am pretty flexible (or was) could put my hands flat on the floor with legs straight etc

GimmeAy · 02/06/2020 21:43

On all fours, inner elbows were pointing directly across at each other.

PorpentiaScamander · 02/06/2020 21:43

I can do it. Was also a dancer.
