Yes protest march about the death of George Floyd but is there any need to loot businesses.

Are you more annoyed about the looting than the systematic killing of black people?
I know which I find more abhorrent.

Mumoblue · 02/06/2020 08:59

Because American society values things more than lives?

Also, people are people and some people will take advantage of a protest to loot.

Phifedean123 · 02/06/2020 09:00

Oh they'll be some opportunists always in these situations but also inequality and poverty leading to rage and anger? People who have had nothing their whole lives getting to a point of fuck it, I'm just gonna take this. If the police can keep murdering unarmed black people then respecting the law will go out the window completely

PotholeParadise · 02/06/2020 09:00

Question: why loot?
Answer: Infiltration by white power activists seeking to discredit the people marching to protest and grieve the murder of George Floyd.

allfalldown47 · 02/06/2020 09:01

Do you know how horrendously poor some Americans are?
I don't blame them.

Truthpact · 02/06/2020 09:01

Pretty sure op doesn't think looting is worse.. Hmm

But there is no point to stealing. Those stealing clearly don't give a damn that someone was killed because of their colour. They just want to grab an opportunity to make money. Says a lot about them doesn't it?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 02/06/2020 09:03

Says a lot about them doesn't it?

That they have no money?

Oh for goodness sake where does the OP say this! This is the second thread I've seen that reply, is no-one allowed to ask about the looting without them getting accused of not caring" about GFs murder? Hmm

Noidea2114 · 02/06/2020 09:05

peopleherearerightcunts if you read my message I said to protest about this mans death.

OP posts:
zscaler · 02/06/2020 09:06

A small group of people will always take advantage of a situation for their own benefit. It doesn’t mean the actual protests are not necessary and justified. Focusing on the looting is, in my opinion, focusing on the wrong thing.

peopleherearerightcunts · 02/06/2020 09:07

Black people have been protesting for years in America, it's made no difference.

If it was my children that were at risk of being murdered by the people who were meant to protect them simply because of the colour of their skin - I'd be smashing things up too.

peopleherearerightcunts · 02/06/2020 09:09

@LagunaBubbles because it seems people are more horrified about looting than they are about the race crimes being committed.
Admonishing the looting it detracting from the horrors that have caused these protests to happen and in my opinion is playing right into Trump etc. hands.

Chillipeanuts · 02/06/2020 09:14

Protestors and looters are two different groups.
There are always people who will happily profit from a bad situation.
That said, as a completely law abiding person, given the state of the US atm, chronic unemployment and scant welfare support, I would look at some looters, who are doing something as basic as trying to feed their families, with some degree of sympathy.
I don’t think there’s any justification for looting during U.K. protests.

Truthpact · 02/06/2020 09:14

Black people have been protesting for years in America, it's made no difference.

That's the sad reality of it. It will likely make no difference this time either. Sad

America needs a big shake up its not ready or willing to do. So they will keep killing people for no reason.

@Toilenstripes

Ehhh... what? 😂

hoxtonbabe · 02/06/2020 09:24

You’re always going to get those that take it far/find any excuse to take the piss, but equally some are doing it to be heard and are just fed up, angry and want change.

In the prim and proper days of the suffragettes, they planted bombs, committed arson, destroyed shops, even horse whipped a young Churchill, and at the end of it all, women got the right to vote.. I see what is going on now or at any protest of injustice around the same as what the suffragettes did.

My thought, exactly 😁

EmperorCovidula · 02/06/2020 09:27

Some people will use any excuse to be arseholes, even protests over a persons murder. That is the very nature of being an arsehole.

TheVanguardSix · 02/06/2020 09:27

What pothole paradise said.

EmperorCovidula · 02/06/2020 09:30

@hoxtonbabe are you saying that that was right? Or just drawing comparisons to illustrate that it’s common in hymen’s rights movements to have extremist factions? I don’t really think it’s fair to point at suffragettes/whoever to deflect criticism.

Toilenstripes · 02/06/2020 09:33

“Because American society values things more than lives”

@Mumoblue
I’m American and I am so deeply offended by vicious comments like yours. How dare you? Who do you think you are? Go drink your tea and stop being so nasty.

Mumoblue · 02/06/2020 09:36

@Toilenstripes

I said that because it's exactly what I have heard from American people. It's clearly how some of them feel. I dont speak for Americans, but you cant speak for all of the m either. I think you're the one who needs a cup of tea, and perhaps a lie down.

BarkandCheese · 02/06/2020 09:38

Rioting and looting generally go hand in hand, it’s not unique to the current situation, doesn’t anyone remember the London riots of a few years ago? So the question really is why do a group of generally young, disenfranchised, angry people who have already stepped outside the law and society norms by rioting who are pumped up on adrenaline and emboldened by having the like minded around them loot? I think that’s an easier question to answer.
