To think that the looters should be ashamed of themselves

I think that the protests are fully justified, and support them, but imo looting is ridiculous. Using the horrific death of someone as an excuse to steal?? This is not what George Floyd would have wanted. Probably quite the opposite.

Hi OP, can you link me to your thread "To think that the police should be ashamed of themselves" cause I know you must even more outraged at the senseless murder of an unarmed man by the police and the brutality shown by the police against unarmed peaceful protesters with rubber bullets, batons and pepperspray, oh yes and a fucking police vehicle!

This.

If you're not much, much more outraged by the system that routinely allows black people to be harmed and murdered by the police, let alone the rest of the effects of institutional racism on BAME people's health, careers, opportunities and so on than by the looting, then what the hell?!

Some reading material for you OP, I like the other posters eagerly await the link to your thread "To think that the police should be ashamed of themselves" given how much you care about non-violence, peaceful protests and people complying to the law.

CorianderLord · 01/06/2020 08:01

I'm sure that the gigantic corporations being looted can take the hit and claim on their insurance.

The fires are more worrying as they endanger life. But stealing some TVs and cheesecake when your government has basically said you're not worth life? Not my business

PicsInRed · 01/06/2020 08:31

A vast amount of the criminal damage is being perpetrated by white antifa activists.

They couldn't care less about BLM.

Clavinova · 01/06/2020 08:36

The Minneapolis Mayor Confirmed that 40 arrests made in for looting were of people linked to white supremacist groups.

Is that statement accurate?

"Department of Safety Commissioner John Harrington said they are contact-tracing the arrested and added that an investigation is underway about white nationalist groups posting online to encourage their members to use the protests as a cover to create chaos."

"He said some of the 40 arrests made in the Twin Cities Friday night were of people linked to white supremacist groups and organized crime."

BovaryX · 01/06/2020 09:19

^Protesters in Philadelphia threw rocks and petrol bombs at police, officials said, while looters in over 20 Californian cities broke into businesses and carried off boxes of trainers, armfuls of clothes, mobile phones, TVs and other electronics.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, more than 15 people were arrested, including one for hitting a police officer with a rock.Police in Portland also deployed tear gas to disperse a large crowd late on Sunday night after authorities said projectiles were thrown at officers. Police fired rubber bullets and pepper spray at demonstrators who gathered outside the police station in Austin, Texas^

Antifa are thugs. Looters don't care about George Floyd. Those who engage in this kind of violence will help Trump circa November. And the useful idiots who support them? They deserve contempt.

candilemon · 01/06/2020 09:56

Looting can’t be excused.

Aridane · 01/06/2020 09:57

Bet Prince Harry is wishing he was someplace else.

I doubt it

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 01/06/2020 10:05

@Dazzband

You don't know what George Floyd would have wanted. I'm not disgusted at looting at all. I'm disgusted by the police, the killing and the ongoing systematic racism that has been allowed to continue. Enough is enough
Exactly this
wink1970 · 01/06/2020 10:09

YANBU.

I agree with (peaceful) protesting against this unlawful killing, but many seem to see this as an excuse to loot a JD Sports shop. They should be ashamed.

Somanysocks · 01/06/2020 10:17

Frankly I can't believe the vote is not 100%.

Do people really think it's ok to set fires and loot places that are owned by likely innocent people.

It's just an excuse and has nothing to do with protesting a cause. It will only be a matter of time before others are killed in this so-called protest, it is needless.

Protest properly without violence or it makes you just as bad.

BovaryX · 01/06/2020 10:37

It's just an excuse and has nothing to do with protesting a cause. It will only be a matter of time before others are killed in this so-called protest

The videos of masked looters smashing their way into Dior and Vuitton, torching cop cars? These violent thugs don't give a single toss about George Floyd. Their actions are contemptible. As you say, the upshot will be more deaths. And if it continues, the other upshot will be shock and awe circa November from the useful idiots participating in this or condoning it.

TemoraryUsername · 01/06/2020 10:41

It will only be a matter of time before others are killed in this so-called protest, it is needless.

Five people have already died in the protests.

I don't think "it is all so needless" though. People have tried protesting politely and calmly repeatedly. It hasn't worked, black people are still dying at the hands of the police. I think if I were of a race who believed that if I had any interaction with the police at all I would be assumed guilty and likely to be injured or die, I might feel the same, too.

Somanysocks · 01/06/2020 10:46

Five people have already died in the protests.

And that's ok then? Confused

BovaryX · 01/06/2020 10:49

I don't think "it is all so needless" though

@Temporary

The scenes which are playing out on US media night after night of violent looters smashing up property and chucking petrol bombs at cop cars? Do you have any idea how counter productive that is? Antifa are thugs. Many of them are white, virtue signalling thugs. The people doing this are contemptible. And if you don't understand the ramifications for November? You are in for a rude awakening.

TemoraryUsername · 01/06/2020 10:54

@somanysocks of course it isn't. It's an absolute fucking tragedy 💔

TemoraryUsername · 01/06/2020 11:07

@BovaryX I think what is happening is awful. I cried when I saw the photo my friend sent me of a beautiful 19th century deconsicrated church roaring in flames. His charity was scheduled to move into there the next day. So many people injured, so much property damaged.

I'm not saying that it's right, or the best, or the most effective way of handling the situation. I'm pro- non-violence in all walks of life. I'm just saying that I can understand how it has come to this. Peaceful protest hasn't worked. Perhaps this won't work either. But I do have empathy for the people who feel that this is their only choice right now.

bushhbb · 01/06/2020 11:11

If I'm astounded that looting has riled up more people than the events that lead to unrest in the first place. If you thinks it's as simple as being angry about the tragic murder of George Floyd that has lead to looting, you are misinformed and need to do some serious research.

Ladies and gentlemen- a brain.

This is what I cried over:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stinney

Look at the hopeless, fed up look on that child's face. He knows where he's going, he knows. 😢

That was a 14 year old child, fitted up and violently electrocuted to death by the state. Yeah, it was the 40s, but a 12 year old child was shot to death in the last couple of years just playing toy guns in a park as if a white 12 year old child would be shot for same, as if, so not much has changed.

I love buildings, I work in this area. Yes it's awful, but unless you're crying over human lives... it just sounds a bit.... Hmm

YouTheCat · 01/06/2020 11:31

I was just looking at some pictures. The police seem to be the main instigators of violence. They maced a child ffs.

How do you know what he would have wanted? Did you know him?

Did she fuck.
