If someone gave you a million

If someone gave you a million pounds to start a business, what business would you start?

Riffing off the interview question thread, I’ve been asked this and thought it was an interesting one as it shows a little about someone’s true passions/hobbies

I wouldn't want to start a business at all - I don't have the drive to own a small business. 🤣

LittlePeepoToy · 30/05/2020 20:37

I would want to set up a charity focusing on reducing loneliness it would probably have quite a few different strands to it- men’s talking group, projects for older people alone, sports group to bring people together, setting up baby friends for people feeling isolated after birth etc.
Probably sounds a bit daft but it would be my dream.

HoomanMoomin · 30/05/2020 20:39

Orchid nursery with fancy cafe in it.

Redwren · 30/05/2020 20:43

A farm or a b&b or a small cafe with lots of childrens play areas

BrieAndChilli · 30/05/2020 20:43

A party palace

It would have themed party rooms.

  • One would be under the sea so you could add props to make it a pirate party, mermaids, octonauts, bubble guppies, finding nemo, Hawaiian, etc
  • another would be woodland so add a castle for princesses and knights, or bugs or fairies or camping or scouts or army etc
  • another would be primary colours, for things like Bob the builder, or Mario etc
  • another would be black and could be used for magic parties, karaoke, space, Star Wars etc
Then there would be a central kitchen to make the themed food for the parties The front would have a cafe and play area for parents and siblings while they wait for thier children to finish at the party. I’d also have a party shop selling themed party bags and party boxes for DIY parties. There could be different levels of party hire. So just hire the themed room, hire with food, and hire with food and a party host.

A webcam service for people who eat lots.

Wotrewelookinat · 30/05/2020 20:44

I’d give it to my DH who is desperate to leave his office job and start a DIY/handyman business.

Ineverdidmind · 30/05/2020 20:46

@YeahWhatevver I think your idea sounds absolutely brilliant.

BlueJava · 30/05/2020 20:47

I'd like to buy a field near the coast and run a camp site - a really lovely family friendly one with clean loos and clean showers!

PenguinIce · 30/05/2020 20:48

I would have a wedding dress shop. I have already picked out the shop; thought about how I would do ‘fashion shows’ of the dresses and even thought about window displays! Just waiting for someone to leave me the million 🤣

LuluJakey1 · 30/05/2020 20:48

I would like a small garden/nursery where I could grow plants and then sell them, and lovely garden pots, with a cafe. DH would love a bookshop.

We couldn't make any money with either of them so probably would just keep the million.

Gallacia · 30/05/2020 20:50

Healthcare agency

Boringnamechanging · 30/05/2020 20:51

I'd have a small holding with holiday let's. Then grow veg and plants to sell.

ShowOfHands · 30/05/2020 20:53

Ideally, I'd give up work and write full time but if I had to invest, I'd start a hostel in the Highlands or Islands of Scotland and DH can do outward bound stuff and I'd do art/writing retreats.

SanFrancisco49er · 30/05/2020 20:57

I would train as a professional chef and set up a private chef business.

Daftodil · 30/05/2020 20:59

Mini farms in urban areas (for people to take kids to or for adults to improve mental health/connect with the earth).

Kardashianasssss · 30/05/2020 20:59

I’d create a petting zoo

Toilenstripes · 30/05/2020 21:01

Cat cafe and book shop with a few antiques for sale. Come, sit and enjoy yourself.

KingOfDogShite · 30/05/2020 21:01

A small campsite with sea views somewhere remote.

Samtsirch · 30/05/2020 21:02

Some sort of gardening / allotment co operative which focused on wildlife conservation and organic veg etc, offering training opportunities or apprenticeships to more vulnerable members of the job market ; asylum seekers, people in recovery or recently out of prison, people with mental illness or special needs which made finding employment difficult.
Or I’d open an animal sanctuary along similar lines.

BackforGood · 30/05/2020 21:02

Nothing worthy - I'd use it to support my dcs' big ideas - I'm too old to have the energy to want my own business but ds fancies investing in property and my dd wants to live in the beautiful part of the Country she has been studying in but can't find a job in, so I'd let them use it to start their own ways to earn a living.

icansmellburningleaves · 30/05/2020 21:05

Wedding dress shop.

Rhubardandcustard · 30/05/2020 21:06

Buy patch land. Open dog friendly exercise park, run dog training and agility courses. Have outdoor cafe there too.

Jellykat · 30/05/2020 21:06

A screen printing studio, so i could print amazing fabrics!
I'd also have to have a shop attached Smile

ShowOfHands · 30/05/2020 21:08

@Samtsirch you just described my actual job!
