51 and wear up in ballet bun most of the time. If I don’t, it looks like this (I don’t brush it smooth unless for night out) Grin wearing up doesn’t suit me but is definitely neater.

Definitely up. I was thinking today actually how I can't bear to wear my hair down in this weather with it sticking to my neck and back. Always wear it up.

Bertucci · 29/05/2020 20:09

I much prefer mine down.

amusedbush · 29/05/2020 20:15

I’ve been growing my hair for years and I love having it long so I like to style it and wear it down.

If I wear it up it goes in a big messy bun, which I also like. It looks better down though.

This thread reminded me of this tweet though Grin

Up or short looks best on most people. Men or women, old or young.

Ugzbugz · 29/05/2020 20:40

I would never ever wear my hair up, I look like a bloke with it up, awful.

Phoebesgift · 29/05/2020 20:48

Both.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 29/05/2020 21:02

None of you have any sagging around the jawline?

@Gwenhwyfar. No, we're all examples of physical perfection. Grin

All I'm saying is that not everyone develops bulldog-style jowls in middle age. Of course our jawlines aren't AS tight as they were at 25 but right now they're still well-defined.

I'm sure it'll be a different story in a few more years! Perhaps we should all style our hair like Thing in The Addams Family film. Grin

weegiemum · 29/05/2020 21:28

My face looks too old and jowly with it up. I like it down.

GrumpyHoonMain · 29/05/2020 21:29

I think long hair almost always looks better down.

Electrical · 29/05/2020 23:47

I see loads of brides getting up-dos and tbh not that many people suit having their face and neck exposed, me included. I hate my face and neck (and my entire body) and photos of me with Up hair look hideous. Down and annoying me, or up and looking awful-sigh :(

Sadie789 · 29/05/2020 23:56

I was at a party aged 16/17 and arrived with my hair up.

Half way through the night I let it down. As I did so a guy at the party who I didn’t know said “wow you look so much better with your hair down” (it wasn’t said as a compliment).

I’ve never forgotten that and my hair is always down unless I’m ill or on a beach.

To be fair I would say my mum also looks better with her hair down so I must have a similar face/neck shape.

TimeWastingButFun · 30/05/2020 00:03

I really like it up. It's a disaster when it's down. Oh, wait you mean hair??? 😂

UnderCaffeinated · 30/05/2020 00:27

I only wear it down, I never wear my hair up.

@Poetryinaction

"Up or short looks best on most people. Men or women, old or young."

That's a matter of opinion. Mine is short hair ages women. Up hair looks ick unless it has had some effort put in to style it - which most don't as it's up because it's not maintained ie needs washing or can't be bothered to keep in good condition.

The lady above with shoulder length curls could have nice looking hair with the help of some product to tame the wildness and frizzies.

Coffeepot72 · 30/05/2020 14:30

I think I look younger with short hair and it definitely suits my face - but I feel more ‘me’ and a lot more feminine with shoulder length hair. So a semi up do is a great compromise - it takes the hair away from my face whilst leaving the length on my shoulders

vikingwife · 30/05/2020 14:36

Well I shaved my head today so will have neither option for the forseeable future. My hair looked good both up & down, but preferred it up & big like a beehive.

Lozz22 · 30/05/2020 14:51

At the moment up. It's ridiculously unmanageable and too thick to straighten. Plus the face masks I wear for work are too big for me so my ponytail comes in useful for hooping the ear loops round making it snug to my face

haverhill · 30/05/2020 14:58

Personally I think fine hair looks better down - it can look a bit weedy ‘up’ because there isn’t enough volume to create a flattering shape.
(I have fine hair and am basing this on myself). It’s also prone to shed hair clips and slither out of bands.
