Half up- half down

All up

I worry I will look stupid as I get older though having it in a ponytail or such like. I'm 38 at the moment

I'm 51 and still have mine in a ponytail. I don't worry about what other people think, either! Grin

Coffeepot72 · 29/05/2020 18:39

Semi looks best on me

HaddawayAndShite · 29/05/2020 18:39

Just above shoulder length hair and it's 99% half up and half down. Because my top layers have decided to stop growing so it looks like I've got helmet hair / a shit mullet.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/05/2020 18:40

Frankly, @wowsaid, I think it is daft to suggest that one hairstyle is going to suit everyone. We have different types of hair, and different shapes of head and face, and one style is never going to suit all types of hair and shapes of head or face.

I have a round face, and thin, fine hair - if I put my hair up, I look atrocious. I suit a pixie cut, short and layered, with a fringe. A short style means my hair looks as if I have more body in my hair, whilst tying it back or putting it up makes it look as if I am basically bald.

sonjadog · 29/05/2020 18:41

Down, but I might be fooling myself there. I am a large lady and I think with my hair up it makes me have a tiny head on a big body, while hair down balances it out (my hair is very thick and goes out as much as it goes down). I might possibly be the only one who thinks this though.

unchienandalusia · 29/05/2020 18:47

a semi is never satisfying op!

Lurkingforawhile · 29/05/2020 18:50

Thisight sounds weird - my hair itself looks better down but my face looks better with hair up!

BluebellForest836 · 29/05/2020 18:51

Down ...

Sometimes up but only when I don’t try and I’m doing housework then it seems to look good

iklboo · 29/05/2020 18:52

Not much up I can do with a pixie cut.

Sceptre86 · 29/05/2020 18:53

I have a long face so half up and down do or all down suits me way better. On occasion when I do an updo I keep the bun towards the nape of my neck as I don't need the height to make my face look longer!

abstractzebra · 29/05/2020 18:57

I always have my hair quite short so never wear it up but I know it looks better 'puffed up' a bit, rather than flat.
I'm not sure that the scraped back, flat to the head ponytail looks great on anyone. It's a bit harsh. We call it the Croydon Facelift and a high ponytail is a Portsmouth Pineapple Grin

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/05/2020 18:59

I look best with as much of my face covered as possible. So I vote down.

Redwren · 29/05/2020 19:02

Definitely down

ConstanceSalinger · 29/05/2020 19:07

Married to a biker who races so it's "head down, arse up"

Somanysocks · 29/05/2020 19:11

If I have my hair up really tightly it makes me look younger.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 29/05/2020 19:11

I think most mature women don't have long hair noawadays - and I don't think most look better with hair up, for one you need a nice neck and a neat jawline.

@CatAndHisKit. Speak for yourself, Cat, I'm 46 with good skin and no lines on my neck...hair still looks good up! I know several 50+ women with longer hair, we don't all fall apart in middle age. Grin

Somanysocks · 29/05/2020 19:19

Haha I'm 50s and am very gorgeous (with my hair up tightly).

lilgreen · 29/05/2020 19:25

Depends on your bone structure. I look better with more hair down as I age. (49)

lilgreen · 29/05/2020 19:26

Mines not long, not quite touching my shoulder.

Toothsil · 29/05/2020 19:28

I think it all depends on the person.

ZaraW · 29/05/2020 19:29

My hair is curly and frizzy. If left to its natural state it looks better up. If I straighten it looks better down.

Gwenhwyfar · 29/05/2020 19:31

"I know several 50+ women with longer hair, we don't all fall apart in middle age. grin"

None of you have any sagging around the jawline?

MrsToothyBitch · 29/05/2020 19:31

Hair? For me down. It's a long (atm) bob so it looks tragic up & I suit it framing my face.

Elphame · 29/05/2020 19:32

Mid 50s here and my long thick hair looks better up.

Down I'm at the mercy of the wind and that really isn't a good thing. I'd never wear it in a pony tail though, it's a twist and a very heavy duty clip

ALongHardWinter · 29/05/2020 19:44

shitthissucks My daughters tell me that I look angry with my hair down....
That made me laugh! Grin
