Can you believe that Trump has just tweeted this comment? He is talking about the protests about George Floyd's death. He has also called the protestors "thugs".

Twitter has put a warning on his twitter post, saying that it "glorifies violence". It is also racist!

The "historical context" is a reference to the late 1960s, when the phrase "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" was coined by Miami Police Chief Walter Headley, in reference to his aggressive policing policies in black neighbourhoods.

@Theeighthelephant

Yeah, more police murdering people is what's needed now.
They’re only black people remember!

Genuinely disgusted by how many people are voicing their view that an item is worth more than a black life, shouldn’t be surprised when they’re willing to use the tern thug.

SimonJT, anytime, I'll buy you a bloody drink.

CaraDune · 31/05/2020 17:31

Flowers SimonJT.

These threads are always shockingly revealing of attitudes which I wish had died out decades ago.

So you don’t see anything wrong with POTUS being racist on twitter?

Wow.

When people are lawlessly killed, again, and again, and again, without recourse or retribution, by those who are supposed to 'serve and protect', then it becomes outside the law. And thus, lawlessness, will prevail.

The police officer was charged (eventually) with third degree murder/homicide as I recall? Pathology seems to be already lining up the defence - as opposed to 'you take your victim as you find them'.

SimonJT · 31/05/2020 17:45

@StamfordHill

Racist how? By threatening looters?
So you seriously thinks it’s okay for him to use specific racist phrases? Or are you pretending he didn’t?
DGRossetti · 31/05/2020 17:46

People should be allowed to protest, but when it degenerates into looting and general breakdown of lawlessness, that is a mortal threat to all of society. And should be stopped by all means necessary.

Said the last British Govenor-General of His Majesties Colonies in 1773 ...

mbosnz · 31/05/2020 17:48

Perhaps they don't know the specific connotations of those phrases?

@StamfordHill

I don't know what's racist about the phrase he used, but I agree with every word. When looting starts, so should shooting, to stop the thugs.
So now you’re admitting to everyone here that you are in fact racist. And to prove your point you decided to give two racist examples.

Well done you.

Theeighthelephant · 31/05/2020 17:56

@StamfordHill

Racist how? By threatening looters?
Do you even know the histroy of the phrase?
mbosnz · 31/05/2020 17:56

But they do have recourse to justice and retribution. The officer involved was arrested and charged

One of the officers involved has been arrested and charged. With third degree murder, and the defence already being lined up. (Incidentally, his wife took the opportunity to shuck off how many kilos of nasty little deadweight, she's applied for divorce).

How many (very many) times, has the official response been a variation on the tune 'it is what it is'?

When is it going to be that if a black man is throttled by a man (who knew him, worked with him, possibly had issues with him) in the street, or a black woman is gunned down on her fucking COUCH this is treated as seriously as if they were a white, middle class, university educated 50 year old lawyer?

mbosnz · 31/05/2020 17:58

And it took, not just nationwide rioting and protesting, but international protesting.

To paraphase your idiot in Chief Trump.

Sad.

Livelovebehappy · 31/05/2020 17:58

And we now have people in cities in the U.K. protesting about it today. Totally disregarding the rules in place to stop the deaths of our citizens by ignoring social distancing. The irony of protesting against the needless death of someone by needlessly putting others at risk by their selfish actions. I think the death of George Floyd was appalling police brutality, but don’t think the protests in the U.K. should have been allowed to happen during lockdown.

mbosnz · 31/05/2020 18:01

That's how strongly people feel. They are prepared to risk their own lives, and those of others, because this is the fucking shit world we live in.

Mummadeeze · 31/05/2020 18:09

I was also really shocked that Trump tweeted such disparaging comments about the Mayor of Minneapolis. So weird and unprofessional to tweet a complaint for everyone to read about how he was handling the situation rather than phone him up and speak to him.

B1rdbra1n · 31/05/2020 18:31

everything about Trump is weird and unprofessional :(

Hippydoodledoo8 · 31/05/2020 18:44

@StamfordHill you’re really that naive to think that murderer will be brought to justice just because he’s been charged? They usually get acquitted on technicalities. George Floyd’s autopsy results are already screaming corruption.
Do some research, you look ignorant.

Hippydoodledoo8 · 31/05/2020 18:45

@Livelovebehappy it wasn’t police brutality, it was cold blooded murder from a racist, power crazed police officer. Let’s not minimise this.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 31/05/2020 19:02

The defence being built up doesnt feel me with hope the outcome be the right one. Yes there may been medical history etc but none of that wouldve mattered if he hadnt pinned him down on his neck for that time!

Also the others stood and watched. How come they're off scot free! Wasnt there more footage that showed it was more then one person?

Its scary but not surprising to think he could get off free..
