i just saw two council workers, one driving the van, the other collecting from the dog poo bins.
they were not 2 metre apart in the van,
they were not wearing masks

I’ve seen workmen in vans together too , also the staff in my local Aldi aren’t keeping their distance from other staff or shoppers.
I think it’s been so drummed into us to keep apart that it’s going to take a while to get used to being near others again, and let’s face it, it’s going to be nigh on impossible not to once back at work.

Namechange170518 · 28/05/2020 13:28

Not possible in work (nhs lab) but everyone keeps their distance as much as possible on breaks and in corridors.

BlueJava · 28/05/2020 13:32

Personally yes because I'm working from home all the time. But for many (most?) jobs it's just not possible. For example, the van for council workers won't be wide enough, space in shops just doesn't lend itself to 2m distance etc. Even if I visit the smaller Tescos or M&S it's not possible. I think it's a case of do your best but we can't operate with a 2m distance at all times.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 28/05/2020 13:33

Can't the lab ask you to work further away?
can't the council workers wear masks in close proximity?

Whereabouts are you OP? It's a legal requirement in wales, PPE should be used where it's not possible.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 28/05/2020 13:36

i am in england,
we are spread out at work,
my ds is also spread out at work, two metres apart,
have access to hand sanitisers and wipes

what most sane people have done is have their bubbles - despite not having them "officially".

So household = one bubble, work = another - and you trust that your colleagues are being as "well behaved" as you at following the rules.

Because stuff needs doing, life goes on, and we all have to muddle through somehow.

SpudsGuns · 28/05/2020 13:38

No. In my job it's impossible.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/05/2020 13:40

DH has been at work throughout. There are measures like meetings done over video conferencing, morning coffee the seats are spread out etc. But he's still sharing an office with another person

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 28/05/2020 13:42

but is your dh in close proximity @aroundtheworld?
i am in an office and we keep our distance

OP posts:
Inoneminute · 28/05/2020 13:42

We're trying but the guidelines only say "wherever possible" if you're working.

I've been to a funeral this morning. Obviously loads of adjustments have been made, limited numbers, well spaced chairs, no mourners' cars, no pall bearers but they still had two men in the front of the hearse.

Bienentrinkwasser · 28/05/2020 13:42

Not possible at work. We wear PPE with patients. Amongst ourselves we just trust each other as there isn’t any other choice really!

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/05/2020 13:42

Impossible when working in care.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 28/05/2020 13:43

but in care you have ppe, well you should

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/05/2020 13:46

It's a small room with three desks and a dog bed. (Other person working at other site, dog not in office) One phone line. Shared toilets with rest of corridor. Shared kettle, fridge etc.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/05/2020 13:46

We do but you can not keep your distance from residents.

ClumsyFool · 28/05/2020 13:46

Work in retail so no as it just isn’t feasible, especially when we are moving and lifting kit and it’s at least a 2 person job on many occasions. We do make sure we distance from customers properly of course for their safety.

PolkaDotsPolka · 28/05/2020 13:50

No, it isn't feasible. We're doing the best we can but when we are expected to both travel in the same vehicle together there is nothing that can be done to create a 2m gap.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 28/05/2020 13:53

well we share toilets, kettles,

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 28/05/2020 13:54

you can trust your colleagues all you like but that doesnt stop a virus.

OP posts:
bigchris · 28/05/2020 13:56

We dont and havent been since 24th March when lockdown started

BeyondMyWits · 28/05/2020 13:58

you can trust your colleagues all you like but that doesnt stop a virus

nope. but I work in a pharmacy. We are exposed to nasty viruses every single day . It is a part of life at work, so we get on and muddle through - ALWAYS taking virus avoidance measures as standard - hand washing, hygiene, cleanliness. We have not had to increase, because as part of our job - like MANY others, we always take these risks seriously.

Bienentrinkwasser · 28/05/2020 14:03

Have you tried wearing a surgical mask for any length of time?

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/05/2020 14:05

All of us at work have been tested and we are all clear.

flutterbean · 28/05/2020 14:08

I work in retail and like a pp stated some jobs are two people jobs. Although we limit the amount of people in each area some times it is not feasible to social distance and complete our jobs, try as we might.
