Today I pissed on the back seat of the car...

I've read a few threads that say 'why do people keep asking where you're going to go to the toilet?' Well... I'll tell you why.. it's because it's a very very important issue with the current lock down rules.

I've not name-changed so I can't be accused of being a piss troll.

I set off today to see my mum. A 1hr drive. I've done it once before and the last time I went with the strategy of being dehydrated. It worked but caused a huge headache.

However, this time, we wanted to meet for longer than just a quick walk: a picnic was planned. So, with my birth injuries plus my diet coke addiction, I formulated a plan: 3 nappies double bagged to make a 'travel potty'.

I felt confident. Liberated even. I drank my coke with zero trepidation. On my return journey I pulled into a secluded layby and retired to the back seat to make use of the 'travel potty'. As I finished, on looking down, I was just in time to see the huge puddle soak down into the seat.

I fear that the bit-of-a-rub with a wet wipe may not have done the trick. Tomorrow, I need to come up with an excuse to go out in the car so that I can sprinkle bi-carb and drive around with all windows open before my husband finds out and files this under 'unreasonable behaviour' in the divorce proceedings.

WIBU to piss in the car!? Has anyone else resorted to such barbaric ways during these unprecedented times?

Fallsballs · 28/05/2020 07:53

@Ethelfleda I enjoyed the wind in more 😃

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 28/05/2020 07:55

Glad you are definitely not the piss troll OP.

So you don’t want other people to share anecdotes about when they pissed themselves.

TryingToBeBold · 28/05/2020 08:03

Just piss in the Bush!!!!

B0bbin · 28/05/2020 08:08

Didn't realise how much I rely on public toilets until now! It's definitely a thing.

Biancadelrioisback · 28/05/2020 08:08

White vinegar is good for getting rid of wee smells. It stinks in itself for a while but at least not of wee.

I have a very weak bladder due to medical reasons so trust me, I feel your pain.
When I went camping a few years ago I bought these wee bags. It basically had a fanny shaped funnel and a bag attached which was filled with these gel balls which hardened when wet. I often have lots of little wees so I was able to use the same bag several times, but my friend with her fancy, normal bladder could only use one bag per wee.

I've bought some incase I get caught short during out longer walks.

Pinkyyy · 28/05/2020 08:11

It needs properly cleaning, not just bicarb sprinkling on it. That's going to stink in this weather.

Get a bucket next time.

Biancadelrioisback · 28/05/2020 08:13

Travel Jane. That's what they're called!

Bertucci · 28/05/2020 08:14

How odd. It would’ve been much easier to take a covert al fresco wee.

Thisdressneedspockets · 28/05/2020 08:18

I'm so grateful I had the foresight to buy a car with rear seats that fold up and dark tinted windows.

Lots of space for private peeing, she wee into a detergent bottle works well.

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 28/05/2020 08:18

You need a Travel John, or Jenny, but they are much more expensive. Sold on Amazon.

ceeveebee · 28/05/2020 08:24

The lack of toilet facilities is a problem for all this “unlimited exercise” (maybe not a bad thing)
DH took the day off yesterday and took the kids on a long walk while I worked - only to call me a couple of hours later to ask to be collected as both kids needed to poo and they were 5 miles from home...I may have used the phrase “told you so”....

BreatheAndFocus · 28/05/2020 08:31

Just wee behind some greenery! Ideally, wear a skirt or dress so you don’t need to pull anything down. In an absolute emergency, you can even open front and back doors of the car on the side away from the road and wee between them. Again, the right clothes make this simple.

Buggedandconfused · 28/05/2020 08:33

If I need to go I stop in a lay-by or hard shoulder (if nose to rail traffic on motorway) open both passenger doors and squat between them and pee. Done it loads of times.

midnightstar66 · 28/05/2020 08:37

You'd probably be better with a makeshift bucket toilet op. Alternatively go outdoors are selling portable camping toilets for £20. Could be a sound investment

Bluntness100 · 28/05/2020 08:38

I think op it’s the not cleaning it as soon as you got home and leaving it over night,

Fair enough you weren’t at your mothers house and apparantly there was no quiet spots you could go to and you felt nappies were the answer, but peeing on your car seat, then getting home, parking up and walking blithely into the house and leaving it drying in all night is really quite grim.

Even if you didn’t wish your husband to know you could have said you spilled some apple juice or something, and cleaned it.

Honestly the whole thing is just odd and what’s worse is you are posting like you think it’s funny.

vanillandhoney · 28/05/2020 08:39

You car is going to absolutely stink this morning.

I just went out for an hour with the dog and it's already 18 degrees. I'm sure the inside of my car is at least 5 degrees hotter.

timeforawine · 28/05/2020 08:41

Maybe get one of these for in the car, the liners are good but could always add a nappy too for extra absorption. I use it for my 3 year old when on long walks but read reviews from people who use them while camping

CrunchyCarrot · 28/05/2020 08:42

Awww no! It was a good plan OP, sorry it headed south! Grin I think I'm more of a behind-a-bush gal, or even between car doors. But nice try!

Tittie · 28/05/2020 08:49

The poet Holly McNish did a reading of her essay from a book called The Best, Most Awful Job on Instagram the other day. It's a really good book, a collection of essays on motherhood. I've been reading an essay at a time while feeding baby. I really recommend it! It's a couple of quid if you have a kindle.

Anyway, in that essay, she does reference a time when she had to piss into a nappy during a long drive, because she didn't want to wake her baby up by going into the service station.

So you're certainly not the first to do it.

I considered it once when caught up in a traffic jam. I was 5 minutes from my destination, desperate for a wee, and stuck and a standstill for about 2 hours. I decided against it in the end, i was much too self conscious (and DS would have seen), and I only just made it to the toilet in time Grin

diddl · 28/05/2020 08:50

Surely a jug or potty that you can then dispose of the contents under a bush is always better than nappies?

BogRollBOGOF · 28/05/2020 08:54

Just pee in the layby?
Rural areas are regularly showered in wee from farm animals. Men think nothing of relieving themselves when necessary.

A lack of public toilets is a problem for poo, periods and reduced mobility and they really do needto open up soon, especially in the absence of businesses that take the slack off poor provision anyway. But wee is the easiest to deal with.

The caffiene in diet Coke really won't have helped. I notice a difference if I've had caffiene befor or not if I'm running. The "dehydration headache" was probably diet Coke withdrawl.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2020 08:58

"Diet Coke doesn't hydrate you."

Yes, it does.

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/05/2020 09:05

Not your finest moment.

nasalspray · 28/05/2020 09:05

If I need to go I stop in a lay-by or hard shoulder (if nose to rail traffic on motorway)

Do NOT stop on the bloody hard shoulder for the toilet FFS. Particularly in nose to tail traffic. You would be blocking the emergency access to whatever is causing the traffic to slow Hmm
