You've got really low standards if you think Boris is doing well/okay

Day by Day it just gets worse. Bodies piling up, lies being denied or covered up, blatant and shameless cronyism and corruption yet Bojo fangirls and fanboys keep lapping it up. What does he have to do to blow it huh? How can your standards be so flipping low?

StoneofDestiny · 27/05/2020 22:26

What is the 'let's go for unity' and 'let's move on' from Tories/Daily Mail readers who would rather we looked the other way?

Johnson and Cummings are treating us like mugs and think we should just accept the lies, corruption and cronyism. No chance.

This government has been slow to react to the crisis that was already underway in Europe, we were left ill equipped to deal with it when it got here and we didn't even do the basics like close the airports or quarantine new arrivals. One they agreed on the rules we all had to live by, the PM's advisor sticks two fingers up and does his own thing - traipsing his Covid infected self hundreds of miles across the country, and the. Goes out for a drive on his wife's birthday and a walk amongst the bluebells.

Thank goodness there are still some journalists willing to investigate government corruption and report it.

Johnson and Cummings are our own version of Trump.

ssd · 27/05/2020 22:27

The first reply on any thread criticising the government is always to stick up for them. Its an amazing Coincidence.

But they are finding it harder to justify their support of Johnson and 'do you think you could do better' is scraping the barrel, even for tory bots.

nancy75 · 27/05/2020 22:29

ssd especially when most of us do think we could do better!
I can’t really imagine how we could do much worse.

EdwinaMay · 27/05/2020 22:30

These whingefests are getting funny- just wait til after corona and the economic downturn hits - you ain't seen nothing yet OP!

Mumratheevergiving · 27/05/2020 22:30

Doreen I am very sorry for your loss, Covid19 is a cruel disease.

Being PM now and leading us through the pandemic must be supremely hard. It requires a bond of trust between the public and the Government and this has been massively damaged in the last week. The next step in tackling the pandemic is track and trace which hinges on public compliance. For the public to do as 'instucted' Johnson must rebuild trust. Unfortunately while Cummings is still in post, they have become figures of fun & not a Government people will lfollow. The PM needs to listen to the public if they are to listen to him.

AuntyRigsby · 27/05/2020 22:31

Unfortunately most people who think he's doing ok don't think he's doing ok in absolute terms. They indulge in classic "whataboutery" - he's doing better than Corbyn would have done. And unfortunately that (along with brexit, and various other fuck-ups) is the price we all have to pay for those who thought it was a good idea to vote Corbyn in as Labour leader. In a two-horse race if you stand an ass the donkey will win.

(Not too sure about the validity of my equine metaphor Grin)

theduchessstill · 27/05/2020 22:31

attacking the group morale will kill people... but you do your thing I guess.

What kind of country are we becoming if we dare not express dissatisfaction with our leaders lest we damage morale. Morale won't solve this - PPE will, effective test track and trace will, a well thought-out and properly implemented strategy will. FFS, I am genuinely scared and so sad about what is happening here.

The problem we have is the nation elected fun time Boris, they thought the most taxing thing he was going to face was going across a zip wire in Union Jack pants whilst chanting get Brexit done. Sucks for us an international crisis cane along & fun time Boris now has to actually do some work - work was never on his agenda

Mammyloveswine · 27/05/2020 22:33

He's a total joke.. it's an embarrassment

mondaynoon · 27/05/2020 22:35

It makes me laugh when people ask 'could you do any better?'. It is his job! If a surgeon makes a mess of an operation do they turn round and say 'Do you think you could have done any better' ?

He doesn't give a shit now anyway - he's got a majority and no election for several years so he can do whatever he wants.

theduchessstill · 27/05/2020 22:35

But everything is better with the benefit of hindsight and when your arse isn’t burning from sitting in the hot seat.

Is he even in the hot seat? He said at the committee today that he 'wasn't allowed to set anymore targets.' Wasn't allowed?? He's our PM for god's sake. If he's not up to the job he needs to stand aside so we can get someone who is. FFS, I had nothing good to say about May but she would have put the hours in.

carlywurly · 27/05/2020 22:36

It's an absolute shitshow. He's an incompetent, inarticulate fool surrounded by psycophants and self serving elitist twats and I know plenty of people I think could genuinely have done a better job than he has so far.

mondaynoon · 27/05/2020 22:37

BreadandMarmalade
One day on Mumsnet and you're bored already... shame.

mathdoc · 27/05/2020 22:40

I agree that reasonable childcare at his London home was probably not impossible. I just suspect that there were no ideal options. I can imagine that in every situation DC considered, there were bad outcomes. He probably considered the media furore if he paid a private nanny to come into his covid infected home, or used his London based family who I understand are key workers and were also going through some COVID related tragedy. I can totally understand that out of all the options available he thought that going to a place he perceived was safe to isolate and had contingency childcare options which were relatively safe for all concerned was the best option out of a bad bunch. It would be something I would consider too if I was in that position and had that option. As with any parent posting on here, particularly if, as rumoured, the child is autistic, I generally give them a significant amount of leeway if there is a reasonable possibility that they are doing something with their child's best interests at heart.
@nancy75
Nope - I can't say I can defend that journey I have to say. I dont understand why he did it and his defence doesn't ring true. From all reports though, it doesn't seem that he was going there for tourism - I believe even the guy who spotted him said he was only there for a few minutes, so I hope for his wife's sake that wasn't her birthday present!

CherryPavlova · 27/05/2020 22:45

The government is corrupt. I find it terribly sad so many people are prepared to accept such a high level of dishonesty and propaganda from a government.
The Cummings business is appalling.

He was going to Barnard Castle for work to do a sweetheart deal with GSK.
The farm belongs to him. It received massive EU subsidies last year.
The man is truly unpleasant in person as well as in the media. Few more arrogant.

AKissAndASmile · 27/05/2020 22:46

I was watching the Select Committe car crash and actually felt embarrassed.

OtterBe4 · 27/05/2020 22:47

The sycophants on SM supporting him make me sick 😡

You've got really low standards if you think Boris is doing well/okay
newusername2009 · 27/05/2020 22:48

I wouldn’t do his job right now for all the money in the world. Every single leader will make mistakes right now - it’s impossible to get it all right.

I think if it was a choice the whole lot of them would resign now and get some sleep and time with families - that would be selfish though as a change now would send the markets into a spiral taking even longer to recover from than what we are already faced with.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 27/05/2020 22:51

@Mumratheevergiving

Thank you. Flowers

I do agree with your post. Dealing with the D.C. mess better would have been a start.

Some of the expressions used in these threads are ill judged. And disrespectful to those who have lost loved ones.

I am working my way through this crisis like everyone is. We are trying to do the best we can.

But that just never seems to be enough.

I have a job where I have to make a judgement call and try to keep
matters from escalating. I am held to account for matters outwith my control as well as those that are. I do my best every shift. I am not always successful sadly.

I’m just glad that I have no one judging my efforts on here.

Mumratheevergiving · 27/05/2020 22:53

Mathdoc 'a pretty decent job in totally unprecedented times' this is a genuine question, what would it take for you to say it's going badly? The highest death rate in the world rather than just the second highest?

And you also think it was ok to go day tripping over Easter when no unessential travel was allowed and transporting a disease around the country exposing health care workers in a hospital in the North East?

Namechange2020onceagain · 27/05/2020 22:54

I don't think it could be worse if he tried.

They didn't need hindsight, we could all see it coming, other countries looked on in horror as they saw the UK do NOTHING.

We know that had we had a real lockdown at the beginning of March, thousands wouldn't have died.

We know that the seeding of care homes with infected patients would result in many deaths.

We know that the woeful lack of PPE and inadequate PPE has undoubtedly contributed to the deaths of NHS workers.

The UK Government should be up on corporate manslaughter/genocide charges.

TruthTwisters · 27/05/2020 22:59

He's shambolic

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 27/05/2020 23:10

Boris is a fucking mess

The fact that he's come out of hiding for DC screams of a bigger story needing covering up imo

If he's too ill to work then he needs to hand power over to someone who can take back control of things.

We need the loosening of lockdown to be managed super carefully and for action to be taken quickly for this wave. I really think Boris isn't up for it

AKissAndASmile · 27/05/2020 23:15

@OtterBe4 that pic you screenshotted is sarcasm, not support
