To avoid T or T by turning my phone off when out

Pissed off with hypocrisy of government.

I’m playing by the rules and still properly social distancing so there’s no way I’m self isolating for 2 weeks if they call me.

Can turning phones off when out avoid being radarred?

America has used these methods successfully, to contain and prevent the spread of illness

My you have swallowed the training manual haven't you? USA is and has been abysmal

GreenGlassVase · 27/05/2020 22:09

You are quite rude aren’t you

Crunchymum · 27/05/2020 22:12

I'm confused on 2 parts

  1. why does only the person who has been in contact with the person who has come down with CV19 have to isolate, and not the whole family? Given that the biggest spread is between family units who love together
  2. what will prevent people from lying? Someone seeks a test and say they haven't seen anyone other than their food delivery driver / family they live with? Because lots of people may be unwilling to admit just how much they are breaking the damn rules!!
Crunchymum · 27/05/2020 22:12

Love = live

Jellykat · 27/05/2020 22:13

Slightly confused, tracing for people in contact with a positive case, if in their company for more then 15 minutes, or closer then 2 metres? Aren't we still socially distancing??

peoplepleaser1 · 27/05/2020 22:14

@Crunchymum I think you've maybe not got all the info that you need. The whole family does need to isolate, it was covered in the briefing and if you were to be contacted it would be made very clear wrt what you all need to do.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 27/05/2020 22:15

I think people will also be wary because Matt Hancock Etc can't stop describing the app as world-beating when we'd be satisfied with one that's as good as the other good quality solutions out there Wink

Thanks to the poster who pointed out a big problem with the anonymous solution

I think that the contact tracers should do an AMA to educate us.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 27/05/2020 22:17

I teach a bottom set year 10, many of whom are not going to like coming back into school, even part time. I am genuinely worried that I’m going to be asked to isolate every five bloody minutes pending test results because one of them feels a bit rough. It’s going to be chaos.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 27/05/2020 22:17

For those who've asked about being paid while isolating, BBC says it will be SSP www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52820592

Secretsout · 27/05/2020 22:17

The system works as follows:

All lab positive results are reported to NHS/PHE. If a mobile or email address is given for the person they are invited to go online and input details of any contacts they have had. After 2 or 3 reminders with no response, they are called by T&T call handlers.

Call handlers ring the person to request info of their contacts. Contacts are followed up and given health advice by the call handlers.

Call handlers have advice and guidelines on hand to support the cases and contacts. They also have info on data security, GDPR etc and will run through this with the person.

peoplepleaser1 · 27/05/2020 22:17

No @Jellykat some people aren't following the guidelines- some because they don't care, others because they have tough calls to make.

I have to help my frail dad dress his feet weekly. I can't do this from 2m.....

Please everyone, help make this system work so I can get my dad proper help, instead of prolonging his and everyone else's misery.

peoplepleaser1 · 27/05/2020 22:19

@Dogsaresomucheasier they need a positive test to start the chain of events and you will have gone opportunity to express concern if you think something is afoot.

lljkk · 27/05/2020 22:21

@GreenGlassVase, can you give a link to a story about that?

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 27/05/2020 22:22

PeoplePleaser
I hear what you say, but I simply will not comply with this. I have complied with lockdown to the absolute letter. I have not breached it once, not once. And even when the restrictions are lifted, other than for work, I will maintain my own lockdown and adhere to the guidelines.
But pernicious governments are not to be trusted. One that blatantly lies and gaslights its citizens by telling us that black is white.
No.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 27/05/2020 22:22

That would be reassuring but school policy is to isolate the “bubble” (10 kids and 5 teachers,) if there is a suspected case until test results are available.

WildSkitty · 27/05/2020 22:22

I'm so fascinated that so many people are so against this.

COVID-19 is a notifiable disease, just like measles, for example. The same thing happens with other notifiable diseases - interviews and contact tracing happens for them too with the aim to try to reduce the spread of infections and for the greater public health.

I get that the app is unpopular, but I'm surprised so many people don't like the idea of the contact tracing calls.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 27/05/2020 22:23

On Android you can get GPS fakers which override the satellite signals and tell any apps in your phone that you're wherever you want to be, regardless of where you in fact are. You can appear to be in your front room all day long. And you can still use the phone - no need to turn it off.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/05/2020 22:23

If they don’t answer the phone, we call 3 more times and send out text messages and e-mails for you to complete the questionnaire online. You should get these before you get the call. If you don’t complete, that’s when we phone up

If you're already calling someone and then send emails/texts about a questionnaire, how does it work that folk "should get these before you get the call"??
I've read this post at least six times now and it still makes no sense - and this from someone who's presumably been trained to implement the sytem

Worrying ...

Crunchymum · 27/05/2020 22:26

Well now I'm sure news is being changed before my very eyes. I'm convinced I saw some snazzy posters with the instructions on them (kind of like a flow chart). Saw them on BBC and Sky and was pretty sure that they said just the person who had been in contact with the person with CV19 has to isolate - unless they begin to show signs and then the whole family isolate?

I probably imagined it. Or maybe I didn't.

It's all very 1984. News that was there a few hours ago, no longer exists.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 27/05/2020 22:29

Good grief! You are disclosing far less information about yourself using this app than you reveal to Google, Facebook, Apple or Samsung. So you are disclosing your phone number and your phones location, if the government want to trace your phone they can make application to do so anyway. I dispose Johnson and his advisor but get a grip and partake in track and trace for everyones benefit.

controversialquestion · 27/05/2020 22:32

Ok. So what do you all think we should do NOW. Not what should we have done 3 months ago. Yes, the government have shown they are inept and disingenuous, but we need to move forward. Many of you also say you don’t want to stay in lockdown and it’s not feasible for the foreseeable future. T an t is a core component of most countries’ strategies. It’s not perfect but it has an important role. What do you all think we should be doing instead?

Jellykat · 27/05/2020 22:34

Another question i don't get, how long are test results taking to come back atm? 48 hours, 5 days?..

Presumably we self isolate while we're waiting for results, meanwhile no-one else i've been in contact with is notified, until our possible positive result actually comes back? Thats a lot of walking around for my contacts to do.
