To think we will be on lockdown in the winter?

Every year in the media you hear about how the NHS is struggling/almost at capacity because of increased cases of flu and pneumonia - the so-called NHS "winter crisis".

Surely with even a small amount of COVID-19 cases on top of the usual winter illnesses it will cause the NHS to reach capacity and trigger a lockdown in order to protect the NHS?

(Sorry that this is so negative, I don't meant to be all doom and gloom)

If there is a second wave it will be smaller.

I’m certain there will be a second wave and that it will be worse.

Right now I don't think anyone can know for sure

I would concentrate on living the best life you can right now - eg get out in to the countryside, fresh air, meet with friends / family outside / socially distanced and look forward to infection levels going down to enable things to be opened up so we can at least try to get some enjoyment out of Summer - even if it means keeping 2m from people or with face coverings

I do think that companies need to be more mindful with sickness procedures though so that people with symptoms can stay at home for a week or so rather than being pressurised to go in when unwell and then passing whatever germs we have around - be it Covid. Flu or just common cold

I don't think there will be another after this, I think it's a once in a generation thing. The country cannot afford to maintain the furlough system, and even with it many companies are shedding staff.

The vulnerable will have to do what they do every flu season, and those who are able will have to go out and work. This won't go away until most people are immune, so most people have to catch it.

How can you be certain?

Maybe they're just letting everyone go to the beach and party etc now hoping a second wave will be over by then.

I think so

So what about Ebola, Sars, Mers and now Sars-Cov-2 (Covid-19)? The only reason why the first 3 didn't go global is because of luck and levels of contagion e.g. Sars is deadlier than this version (Covid-19) but less able to spread. I think the world needs to get its act together. This one may just be a warning shot across the bough.

DivaLasVegas I meant the conservative-funded furlough to support lockdown. I read somewhere that financially this is akin to WW2 for the UK, and I fear the government response may be less people-centred next time.

If the desire was to let people catch it so we would have a second wave in the safety of the summer, then it would be more sensible to open pubs and clubs and hotels now. The chances of catching it outside on the beach are very low.

OK, sorry Bringpizza. -able to apologise until DomC-
