People comparing Cummings to Caroline Flack

panhandledrama · 27/05/2020 10:15

I am quite shocked to see a number of posts in the last few days comparing the media treatment of Dominic Cummings to that of Caroline Flack . And how we need to #bekind
Surely there is no comparison! Caroline was a minor celebrity who was hounded due to a domestic incident
Cummings told us as a nation what we can't do and then did it himself while other people lost jobs and couldn't say goodbye to dying loved ones due to sticking to HIS rules. People are outraged that other (labour) mp's have done similar but they aren't the prime ministers puppet master

Surely people can see that these are totally different scenarios and people have a right to be outraged this time!

It's ridiculous. DC is a smug, entitled, arrogant liar. His disgusting actions could have an impact on the death toll of the British public.

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 14:13

I felt sorry for the man at the rose garden press conference. For about 30 seconds.

No remorse.
No apology
No sorry

Nope. We were the ones who got it wrong. Not him.

There was no KINDNESS coming from DC.

WildIrishRose1 · 27/05/2020 14:15

I absolutely hate the way our press behaves these days. They are out of control and dangerous.

While I do not condone people being hounded on their doorsteps,
can you imagine what kind of nonsense / corruption people like BJ and DC would try to get by the electorate if they weren't held accountable? The free press are a part of a working democracy.

WildIrishRose1 · 27/05/2020 14:15

The first part was a quote from PP.

BlackberryCane · 27/05/2020 14:16

I'm not sure whether what he did was right or wrong given that when its your own kid, all bets are off.

When it's your own kid, you can't say whether it's right or wrong endanger them by driving when you're not sure if you can safely do so? I'm not sure you really think that.

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 14:16

He's a pantomine villain to remainers and lefties. That being said, he did kind of leave an open net for his enemies here.

I'm not his enemy. I'd barely heard of him. But I am furious about this.

"did kind of leave an open net" Understatement or bloody what?

It's quite patronising to suggest this is just party political.

TabbyMumz · 27/05/2020 14:16

"To call this a lynching mob is also disgusting given what’s in the news today. Shameful"
It is a lynch mob. Mob justice, that's what it is. They put a massive tv screen in his road, showing Boris saying "stay at home", really loud. Just awful for him and his family, and the neighbours. And then crowding round him so as he cant get into the car. As if they dont have enough pictures of him. Disgusting behaviour.

GentleParent · 27/05/2020 14:18

Let's also remember that DC's family IS the media - the most detailed account of this whole thing was written for the Spectator by DC and his wife. It goes into excruciating personal detail, but leaves out the key detail of the drive to Durham... You can read about the inconsistencies here -

www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/may/26/inconsistencies-between-cummings-lockdown-story-and-his-wifes

But my wider point is - please don't be conned into believing that DC is a victim of the media establishment, when he is absolutely part of it. He is an establishment figure. He is an incredibly powerful man with huge resources at his disposal. Be Kind to yourself and others: don't let him take the piss out of you.

BlackberryCane · 27/05/2020 14:22

It is a lynch mob.

Oh right, has he been murdered then?

GentleParent · 27/05/2020 14:25

@TabbyMumz - Are you aware of the connotations of the phrase "lynch mob" and of what else is in the news?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52806572

GentleParent · 27/05/2020 14:30

@TabbyMumz - The big screen was not put there by journalists (why would they do that?!). It was put there by a crowdfunded political campaign group called Led By Donkeys.

GentleParent · 27/05/2020 14:33

And if we want to talk about bullying - what about this secret payout made to a civil servant who accused Dominic Cummings (and others) of bullying?

Growingboys · 27/05/2020 14:34

I think it's totally fair. He tried to do what was best for his SN child. He did not harm anyone.

GentleParent · 27/05/2020 14:34

I'm off now. I'm getting too angry.

We seem to have the leaders we deserve.

TabbyMumz · 27/05/2020 14:38

GentleParent

"@TabbyMumz- Are you aware of the connotations of the phrase "lynch mob" and of what else is in the news?"

You cannot use what is happening in another part of the world to excuse behaviour here. If the cap fits and all.

pumpkinbump · 27/05/2020 14:39

I think it's totally fair. He tried to do what was best for his SN child. He did not harm anyone.

Even if a member of the public did the same they would probably get a fine and be told to go home?

MashedPotatoBrainz · 27/05/2020 14:40

And if we want to talk about bullying - what about this secret payout made to a civil servant who accused Dominic Cummings (and others) of bullying?

The there was the young female adviser he had frogmarched by amred police out the front of no 10, past the world media, in order to humiliate her and terrify others into obedience.

Isn't Mumsnet a vote swinger?
really - what planet are you living on.

Mumsnet exemplifies the 'me me me' generation who seem to feel that sitting at their keyboards gives them some God-given right to be judge, jury and executioner because their leftie mindset makes everyone else 'wrong'. No sensible argument just bile and hatred.

I am sure your pin-up girl is a certain labour politician.
I am ashamed of the opposition politicians in this country and the mindless rent-a-mob people pretending to be reporters. We must be the laughing stock of the world the way we focus on this rather than the many other important news stories that should be covered.
Remember Charlie's Army - frankly this is what some have descended to Angry

MashedPotatoBrainz · 27/05/2020 14:43

I think it's totally fair. He tried to do what was best for his SN child.

By sticking them in enclosed metal box for 5 hours with someone with suspected covid?

He did not harm anyone.

His son ended up in hospital.

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 14:45

I think it's totally fair. He tried to do what was best for his SN child. He did not harm anyone.

Well I think you're wrong there.

Some of the gov's own scientific bods have said this whole affair could affect people's attitude to sticking to lockdown. And so cause deaths. And predicted it will.

And incidentally whilst he had Covid his child spent the night in Durham hospital. So you have no idea if he did physical harm or not in terms of spreading the disease.

Has he harmed and undermined the government. Totally.

BlackberryCane · 27/05/2020 14:47

There's also nothing to suggest his child has SN. Nobody connected with the family has said so. It's an odd assumption to make in the absence of any evidence.

I do also worry about some of your own children if you think deliberately allowing them to be driven by someone who isn't sure they're safe to drive amounts to doing your best for them. Unless you're of the view that he's lying about the Barnard Castle trip, of course.

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 14:48

We must be the laughing stock of the world the way we focus on this rather than the many other important news stories that should be covered.

We are the laughing stock of the world because our Gov has descended to this.

Not because 'we focus' on it. If DC had resigned it would disappear quite quickly.

Bluesheep8 · 27/05/2020 14:50

*Cummings told us as a nation what we can't do

Nope he's an advisor, not the PM*

He advised the PM to tell us.

KaronAVyrus · 27/05/2020 14:54

The rest of the world has got its own shit going on. They really don’t think about us all that much.

TabbyMumz · 27/05/2020 14:55

"GentleParent

That makes it alright then, does it?
