George Floyd killed my police whilst being arrested.

George Floyd was held down with a foot on his neck preventing him breathing for 8 mintues whilst being arrested in the US - during this time he started by saying he was struggling to breathe. People filmed him and attempted to tell the police that he couldn't breathe and please help him.
The police (cops) ignored the pleas. George slowly lost conciousness and then was taken away in an ambulance - he died.

I am shocked that a policeman is so out of touch with what he is doing and unaware that he is causing serious harm to a person he is arresting. I am disgusted that the cop ignore people trying to draw his attention to what he was doing.

George was black and the cop was white. There are now protests for the 4 police officers involved to be charged with murder.

I am completely shocked that the 3 other police officers didn't step in and stop the killing of this man.

YABU - the cop made a mistake in a difficult situation

YANBU - the cop should be charged with murder.

I cannot believe that the poor man spent his last minutes of life on the floor with people asking the cop to let him breathe - I guess I am in shock that this could happen. I am obvioulsy ignorant to the way some people are treated. Please do not watch the video unless fully prepared - I have never seen someone literaaly die on the floor like that whilst others want the cops to check him. He was being arrested for forgery and not armed.

This is bloody awful!

In response to a call about him apparently buying something with a fake bill? That required that level of force and brutality??!

RIP Sad

kissmewherethesundontshine · 27/05/2020 14:37

Horrific, I remember thinking when I had my oldest DC that he may grow up into a world that just doesn't comprehend racism, it doesn't look that way it feels like we are going backwards.

Hoping justice is served and the coppers are charged with murder

ComplaintsComplaintsComplaints · 27/05/2020 14:43

RainbowGlittersandSparkles but that's assuming that higher-ups actually really give a fuck. I don't get any impression that local policing in the US has any issue with racist cops. Part of it will be that police department are so small in most places, covering a tiny area, staffed by locals with local attitudes. I imagine attitudes are different, at least on the surface, in the federal agencies.

Obviouspretzel · 27/05/2020 14:44

Absolutely disgusting. The video was so upsetting. All four officers should be charged with murder/accessory to.

Wouldn't be surprised if nothing actually happens.

belfasteast · 27/05/2020 14:49

Utterly sickening, this would not have happened to a white man. The fact that the officer was aware he was being filmed and gave none is illustrative of the structural racism that is prevalent within not only America, but within the policing bodies in general.

belfasteast · 27/05/2020 14:50

Meant to add that I sincerely hope they all get done for murder.

InglouriousBasterd · 27/05/2020 14:53

I once paid a cab driver with what turned out to be a counterfeit note. I had no idea. I’m trying to get my head around the driver calling the police who then would hold me to the floor with a knee in my neck, with a crowd watching who were unable to intervene, until I died. It’s absolutely horrific.

RIP George Flowers

Candyflosscookie · 27/05/2020 14:57

"I am shocked that a policeman is so out of touch with what he is doing and unaware that he is causing serious harm to a person"

I think that he totally knew what he was doing, did it deliberately and that's why all 4 have now been fired I believe (I've just seen some recent US news reports).

I believe the kneeling cop should be charged.

Black lives still don't matter at all to racist cops.

Lostvoiced · 27/05/2020 15:01

Sometimes I think some police in the US are only police so they can do whatever they want, up to and including just killing someone.

This is horrendous and it keeps happening.

MaxNormal · 28/05/2020 09:36

Has anyone else seen this one? Police officer hitting and ragdolling a 14 year old:

MerlinMoo · 28/05/2020 10:18

YANBU it was murder.

bronzedgodesswannabe · 28/05/2020 11:03

One of the worst things I've ever seen
I keep randomly crying just thinking about it

And I feel so angry knowing justice will not be served

Here is a link to the petition calling for those responsible to be arrested.

It is incomprehensible that something so barbaric can happen in broad daylight and that those responsible may not be held to account.

MyChemicalRomancee · 28/05/2020 23:25

Who ever voted ‘YABU’ you should be fucking ashamed of yourselves!

notforonesecond · 28/05/2020 23:39

It’s not the first time this has happened on video. At least this time it didn’t take 5 years for the cops to get fired. It’s a disgrace. We can only hope justice will be served this time, there needs to be some hope of turning point. Black lives matter.

PickAChew · 28/05/2020 23:44

It's horrific.

His crime was that a shop assistant thought he was using a fake $20 bill. Talk about disproportionate.

billy1966 · 28/05/2020 23:46

A 20 dollar forged bill was why they arrested and murdered him.

It has been a huge point of discussion in our house today.

Truly shocking.

The bystanders asking the cop for a little compassion to be shown.

How anyone could believe your knee on someone's neck like that could be anything other than life threatening is unbelievable to me.

There is appalling racism in the US from the police but clearly it is at a level where some cops believe they can murder a black man while being filmed and get away with it.

RIP George Floyd.
His poor family.

It was a real eye opener for my children.

This happens regularly over there, the only difference with this incident is it was filmed, there were multiple witnesses and cameras at different angles.

Without these things it would have been a simple case of resisting arrest, the cops lie, back each other up and no further action is taken.

As truly shocking as this murder is, I think the real shock is that some police in the US think they can actually get a way with murder while being filmed.

Astonishing.

Lowhangingfruit · 28/05/2020 23:52

Important picture, how do i post on this??

peonia · 28/05/2020 23:53

This story has really appalled me. The police officer kneeling on George Floyd's neck knew exactly what he was doing. There are currently dozens of police guarding his home while he has still not been arrested for murder.

This petition sends an email to the decision makers in Minneapolis (such as the district attorney)- you can add your name and call for the arrest of the officers

www.justiceforbigfloyd.com/

I was also horrified to read of the murder of Breinns Taylor who was killed by police in her own home.

Just absolutely disgusting what is going on in America.

peonia · 28/05/2020 23:55

*Breonna Taylor

LunchBoxPolice · 29/05/2020 00:34

I really think that creating a poll on this is tasteless. No reasonable person would say that the officer acted appropriately.

alfagirl73 · 29/05/2020 00:36

I've watched the video and it's utterly horrific.

I believe the guy was arrested something to do with a counterfeit note. Putting aside for a moment that it is quite possible that the guy didn't know it was counterfeit... even if he DID know... that is a far cry from deserving a death sentence or anything like the brutality demonstrated here.

The guy was cuffed on the ground with 3 officers (including the one kneeling on his neck) pinning him down. He was not armed, he was not violent, he was no threat to anyone.

The cop kneeling on his neck - what a vile creature! He really did look like he was enjoying it and a few times you can see him pushing down harder... like applying more pressure. The poor man on the ground - he was begging, crying and pleading for his life - he knew he was going to die. He said he couldn't breathe and was in pain... and then you see him lose consciousness - yet the officers do not let up and the cop keeps his knee on the chap's neck. You can hear bystanders saying that the guy's nose was now bleeding and they asked the officers to check his pulse - they refused to do so and the one kneeling on his neck actually pulled his mace out with the intent to use it on the bystanders.

There is no way the cops didn't know what they were doing, the fact that the guy lost consciousness (and would have gone limp - there would have been no feeling of him resisting arrest) and started bleeding from his nose at that time was a clear indication of how bad this was and they continued to apply pressure when it was obvious the guy was in a very serious condition.

The one with his knee on the chap's neck should be charged with murder - and the other 3 accessory to murder. The one with his knee on his neck was the most aware of what condition the guy was in and was told, to his face, on camera, that the guy was unconscious and his nose was bleeding. He arrogantly refused to check for a pulse. Anyone with half an ounce of intelligence would've known that kneeling on someone's neck with that force and for that duration was going to cause at best, serious injury and probably death. It is murder - plain and simple - and no one - police officer or not - should escape the penalty for that.

I really hope justice is served here - no one can deny what happened - it is all on camera - clear as day. Anyone who thinks the police acted right is insane.

Finally, be careful if you're going to watch the video - it's horrible - and you basically watch the man die before your eyes. It's so horrific.

pumpkinbump · 29/05/2020 00:43

I am outraged. I hope he comes to a very sticky end in the form of a very painful death.

pumpkinbump · 29/05/2020 00:45

Who ever voted ‘YABU’ you should be fucking ashamed of yourselves 1‰. Probably Derek.

PlantPottingPlantPotting · 29/05/2020 00:46

I hope George & his family get justice but what comfort this may be to them now, it won’t be much. It’s disgusting, those cops should have already been charged. Whatever comes to them they deserve x10
