George Floyd killed my police whilst being arrested.

George Floyd was held down with a foot on his neck preventing him breathing for 8 mintues whilst being arrested in the US - during this time he started by saying he was struggling to breathe. People filmed him and attempted to tell the police that he couldn't breathe and please help him.
The police (cops) ignored the pleas. George slowly lost conciousness and then was taken away in an ambulance - he died.

I am shocked that a policeman is so out of touch with what he is doing and unaware that he is causing serious harm to a person he is arresting. I am disgusted that the cop ignore people trying to draw his attention to what he was doing.

George was black and the cop was white. There are now protests for the 4 police officers involved to be charged with murder.

I am completely shocked that the 3 other police officers didn't step in and stop the killing of this man.

YABU - the cop made a mistake in a difficult situation

YANBU - the cop should be charged with murder.

I cannot believe that the poor man spent his last minutes of life on the floor with people asking the cop to let him breathe - I guess I am in shock that this could happen. I am obvioulsy ignorant to the way some people are treated. Please do not watch the video unless fully prepared - I have never seen someone literaaly die on the floor like that whilst others want the cops to check him. He was being arrested for forgery and not armed.

The officer knew he was being filmed and carried on anyway.. shows the complete lack of fucks being given

areyoubeingserviced · 27/05/2020 10:17

The four police officers need to be charged.
These cases are being reported more often.
Look at the case of the white lady who called the police on a black man who was not threatening her. The irony is that she identifies herself as a liberal
It must be difficult to be a black man in America

PolloDePrimavera · 27/05/2020 10:22

YANBU, but maybe manslaughter. I don't know. It's horrific and very saddening.

TheTrollFairy · 27/05/2020 10:23

I haven’t watched it. The news report titles are enough for it to turn my stomach.
Honestly you can see why people like the guy who filmed the white woman and her dog do record things when this is how they are treated when the police turn up.

CustardySergeant · 27/05/2020 10:25

I can't believe some people have voted YABU. Angry

GCITC · 27/05/2020 10:31

This happened a few years back. Same scenario. Black man, white officer. The officer wasn't charged with anything. Its a disgrace.

RedPanda2 · 27/05/2020 10:38

He was murdered, white people need to speak up and protest as POC are clearly not listened to. So many more murder by cop incidents happen but aren't filmed so aren't in the press. The video is sickening

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/05/2020 10:45

Exactly this.

I haven't watched the video, only seen screenshots. It's horrific and I hope they are charged with murder / accessories to murder.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 27/05/2020 10:48

I haven't even got words for this. That poor, poor man. This, and the poor park ranger who could have been shot dead because of that liar. Rubber bullets have been used on peaceful protesters as well I think.

Mirrorxx · 27/05/2020 10:52

I watched the video and it is very upsetting. I agree with many others who consider the US to be a failed state. I don’t understand how people can support this kind of behavior by going on holiday there. It’s absolutely despicable and not a country I would ever visit.

RainMustFall · 27/05/2020 10:56

Those responsible should be charged but I bet they aren't.

I've seen a couple of programmes about US police - frankly some of them are no more than thugs in a uniform.

DeeCeeCherry · 27/05/2020 11:06

YANBU OP. Although not sure if AIBU is best place for your post.

I watched the 9 minute clip and wish I hadn't. Ive just never seen anything like that and I guess I didn't expect to see a man die on screen. It made me feel unwell. For anyone who hasn't and is planning to watch it, please be mindful it's a harrowing watch. My DDs are in their 20s yet I'd still prefer they don't watch it.

Black America is under siege and I so wish my family out there would just leave

Pertella · 27/05/2020 11:13

I couldnt watch the whole thing.

I dont know what's worse, the guy who kept his knee on George's neck, or the officer ignoring all those saying he couldnt breathe.

Both just as guilty imo

PolloDePrimavera · 27/05/2020 11:22

The expression on the face of the one with his knee on George's neck. Outrageous and inhumane. I have a vivid imagination but I can just imagine the sort of 'man' he is.

ComplaintsComplaintsComplaints · 27/05/2020 11:28

I'm a police officer in the UK. I cannot imagine any circumstances ever, when a knee would go on a neck for any length of time at all. This is straight up murder. You cannot not know that kneeling on someone's neck will compromise their airway. The FBI and state bureau are apparently investigating; I hope that means this man has a chance of getting justice.

Opoly54 · 27/05/2020 11:35

The video is horrific. The poor man is calling for his deceased mother towards the end. It’s a video of a murder.

Puddlesplasher · 27/05/2020 11:58

The video is shocking. We are quite literally watching a man being murdered. Even more shocking is that the police officers were simply dismissed and not arrested.

I had a quick look as I was curious to see how many people in the US die in the hands of the police each year. According to Wikipedia there have been over 900 deaths every single year since 2014. This compares to just 47 in 20 years in the UK. Truly shocking.

TheGreatWave · 27/05/2020 12:05

I am not sure if this is racism or whether the cop would do the same thing to a white guy being arrested.

It is absolutely racism, the whole situation evolved because the guy was black, the calling of the police (probable), the arrest and the treatment whilst under arrest. I hope appropriate justice is served for George.

Flowersinthewild · 27/05/2020 12:06

I have just sat and cried my eyes out over this.

Not for the 1st time I am terrified for my child’s future.

Charge the scum with murder.

RIP George Floyd Flowers

Needamanicure · 27/05/2020 13:55

Apparently there was another cop on his back too. He was unarmed. There are 2 threads on here saying virtually the same thing - it is murder

Needamanicure · 27/05/2020 13:57

I agree, I don't think the police here would hold down in this way.

Disgusting behaviour and should be charged with murder - blocking airway for 8 minutes which led directly to his death is therefore murder.

quarantinevibes · 27/05/2020 14:00

YANBU I couldn’t bring myself to watch all of the video. It’s murder. Isn’t the first time and sadly won’t be the last. Cops taking advantage of their role as usual.

NameChange84 · 27/05/2020 14:20

Horrendous. Those officers should be put in jail, the one kneeling on that poor, innocent man’s neck deserves life imprisonment. It’s cold, calculated murder and it needs to stop. Too many racist scum become cops. And clearly there’s some equally scummy MNs judging by the voting. Hope karma comes round to get them eventually for their inhumanity and inherent prejudice.

RainbowGlittersandSparkles · 27/05/2020 14:26

America really needs to vet their policed officers for racism. As this is becoming an all to often Occurrence.

slashlover · 27/05/2020 14:27

There was a picture on twitter taken from the other direction. Not only did the policeman have his knee on George's neck, but two other policemen were holding his body down (hidden by the car in the video).

There was also CCTV footage from outside the shop which appeared to show that he did not resist arrest as claimed. I say appeared as it's currently unverified, although it definitely seems to be them.
