To hope this racist woman loses her job

twitter.com/melodyMcooper/status/1264965252866641920?s=19. Was appalled to see this video on Twitter - a guy in Central park, NYC, who was birdwatching, politely asked a woman to put her dog on the lead as per the regulation in that part of the park. He started filming it as she got abusive and called the cops, to say that she (white) and her dog were being threatened by an African-American man and could they send the police (as we know this can often result in a shooting). All the while she was holding her dog up by dangling it from its collar, half strangling it. The man left and his sister put the video on Twitter, resulting in the racist dog strangler being identified very quickly... she has a high powered job with an insurance company. The animal shelter took back the dog, and her company says she is on 'administrative leave' hopefully meaning she will get fired. I was really shocked and dismayed that such open racism is still going on, even though she was being filmed! Surely she must lose her job at least, what company would want to be linked to something like this?

She essentially threatened his life. "I'm going to tell the police an african amercian man is threatening my life"="I'm gonna get the police to shoot you".

She was also strangling the dog to the point it started fighting for its life.

It was a reserve area for birds and dogs were meant to be on lead. He used treats to call the dog out of the nesting area. He was right to do so.

Stripesgalore · 26/05/2020 18:47

At one point all Africans were black. Europe has never been an entirely white continent.

Laaf80 · 26/05/2020 18:47

@AKissAndASmile the term African American was adopted by black Americans during the civil rights period.

IIRC it was in part an acknowledgement to be stolen from Africa.

Their ancestors for the most part didn’t decide to immigrate (yes, some black people immigrated later from places like the Caribbean but that’s a whole different story as they are also descendants of enslaved folk).

The term AA wasn’t imposed on black Americans. I think they were largely referred to with slurs before they gained rights in their own land.

BlackKite · 26/05/2020 18:48

This is what Amy Cooper wanted to happen

You really don't know that.

VladmirsPoutine · 26/05/2020 18:49

You really don't know that.

I categorically know that. Stop gaslighting. Go troll elsewhere.

zscaler · 26/05/2020 18:51

But the man ordered her to put her dog on a lead, then offered the dog treats, then filmed her when she got upset. That's creepy and controlling behaviour.

What a load of shite. He asked her to put her dog on a lead (which was required in that area, as evidenced by signage). When she refused he offered her dog a treat because he knew from experience that people will usually leash their dogs to stop them taking treats from strangers.

He filmed her because her behaviour was aggressive - that much is abundantly clear from the video.

Of course she shouldn't have told the police he was threatening her if she wasn't.

What do you mean ‘if’? Did you watch the video? I assume not, since if you had you would have seen that he never threatened her, and in fact was politely asking her not to approach him.

Stripesgalore · 26/05/2020 18:52

‘It was a reserve area for birds and dogs were meant to be on lead. He used treats to call the dog out of the nesting area. He was right to do so.’

That isn’t what he said happened. He said uses treats so that the dog wanders from its owner, which prompts the owner to put the dog on the lead. He made a Facebook post explaining.

NotTerfNorCis · 26/05/2020 18:53

“Creepy and controlling behaviour”? Oh, give it a rest. The man was completely in the right to remind her that her dog should be on a lead, and filming her was a prudent thing to do.

Take race out of it. A man approaches a woman in a park with no one else around. Challenges her about her dog. Offers food to the dog. Films the woman when she gets upset and tells him to leave her alone. That is creepy and controlling.

I'm not condoning what she did, far from it, but he was out of order as well. If you try to push around a stranger you might get more than you bargained for. That's why most of us don't do it.

BlackKite · 26/05/2020 18:53

You've had a tough day Amy, I'd get some rest.

SionnachRua · 26/05/2020 18:55

Take race out of it.

How can we do that when the woman in the video was the one bringing race into it?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/05/2020 18:56

Take race out of it?!
It's about race FFS!!!

VladmirsPoutine · 26/05/2020 18:56

Take race out of it.

Race is the whole point. YOU CANNOT TAKE RACE OUT OF IT. BECAUSE IT WAS FUELLED BY RACISM. Stop gaslighting/explaining away/justifying why black men are dying as a result of racist white people. Don't take race out of it. Stop being a devil's advocate Karen.

Lndnmummy · 26/05/2020 18:56

What @zscaler said.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/05/2020 18:57

How can we do that when the woman in the video was the one bringing race into it?

Exactly!
What are you supposed to do, pretend it's not happening, she's not doing that?
I mean - I just.....
fark.

NotTerfNorCis · 26/05/2020 18:58

How can we do that when the woman in the video was the one bringing race into it?

Because by itself, before she brought race into it, it was a situation involving a man (a privileged man, Harvard graduate) ordering about and filming a woman.

SionnachRua · 26/05/2020 18:58

I am honestly boggled at how far people will go to excuse her racist behaviour.

And as for those who complained about the word Karen 🙄 Yeah, because being called a Karen is equivalent to someone threatening to call the police (and indirectly referencing the many, many black people who've been killed by police for just existing). I can think of worse names than Karen for yer one.

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 19:00

@NotTerfNorCis the man is a bird watcher and said the unleashed dogs disturb the birds, which is why he carries dog treats. There is a reason why unleashed dogs are never allowed in the Ramble part of the park, Wiki says it’s ‘a protected nature preserve. It was designed as a "wild garden“‘ and frequently used for bird watching.

SionnachRua · 26/05/2020 19:01

Because by itself, before she brought race into it, it was a situation involving a man (a privileged man, Harvard graduate) ordering about and filming a woman.

The entire incident revolved around race. Do you think that if she had put the dog on the lead (and he didn't invent that rule - it's a park rule) this video would have been posted? If she hadn't made the threatening comment about the police, would it have been posted?

This incident is part of a much greater story about racism to African Americans. You cannot take race out of the equation in the USA, especially with all the recent deaths due to police. If you really think she's the victim here I feel very sorry for you.

NotAgainNo · 26/05/2020 19:01

@VladmirsPoutine

You do know not every African is black right?

What does this have to do with anything?

Was replying someone who said white Americans shouldn't be called European Americans because not all Europeans are white. They should be called Americans or be specific about where they come from.

Got two posts between us by the time I posted.

VladmirsPoutine · 26/05/2020 19:02

@NotTerfNorCis I'm sure you must be trolling because you are actually excusing and outrightly just dismissing an entire systematic racist incident. Caused by a white woman - invoking her white privilege to threaten a black man with an institutionally racist mechanism.

I really hope you are white because if that's what you believe and you are black then you're going to really suffer. Only white woman could be so casually dismissive because they KNOW that they will be protected at all costs. I actually think you know all of this and are just trolling for the outrage and attention. You are pathetic but then again, your views aren't unique.

MadameMarie · 26/05/2020 19:03

There are some here who think it's their moral duty to defend the woman in any scenario, or think women must always be right. It's not a helpful attitude to women.

I'm beginning to see that. It reminds me of the anti-stepmother brigade which is active on here too.

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 19:05

Just read that the woman is a ‘liberal’, as she donated to Democrat campaigns.

America has a huge problem if their liberals think like this.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/05/2020 19:06

This - no matter what a woman does, she can never ever be wrong, she's automatically a victim, even if it's her at fault and in no way the man's.
Doesn't matter what she does, or says - it's an utterly vile attitude.

YouJustDoYou · 26/05/2020 19:08

Because by itself, before she brought race into it, it was a situation involving a man (a privileged man, Harvard graduate) ordering about and filming a woman

She was still a racist piece of shit.
