To hope this racist woman loses her job

twitter.com/melodyMcooper/status/1264965252866641920?s=19. Was appalled to see this video on Twitter - a guy in Central park, NYC, who was birdwatching, politely asked a woman to put her dog on the lead as per the regulation in that part of the park. He started filming it as she got abusive and called the cops, to say that she (white) and her dog were being threatened by an African-American man and could they send the police (as we know this can often result in a shooting). All the while she was holding her dog up by dangling it from its collar, half strangling it. The man left and his sister put the video on Twitter, resulting in the racist dog strangler being identified very quickly... she has a high powered job with an insurance company. The animal shelter took back the dog, and her company says she is on 'administrative leave' hopefully meaning she will get fired. I was really shocked and dismayed that such open racism is still going on, even though she was being filmed! Surely she must lose her job at least, what company would want to be linked to something like this?

Do you realise how stupid this sounds?

Well I didn't say any of that so not sure why you are asking me. I was only commenting that you can't post opinions as if they are facts. (At least not if you want a fair discussion).

zscaler · 26/05/2020 14:18

@Nancydrawn absolutely right, thank you - that’s hugely important context. The worst case scenario is sickening, but even ‘good’ outcomes are horrendous.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 26/05/2020 14:18

wax it’s probably not the time for sarcasm i should have been clearer

If was an African American man or Hispanic man living in the US at the moment I would be filming much of the time with interactions I was having.

Police are far too eager to use their guns

totallyyesno · 26/05/2020 14:18

@SharonasCorona That is exactly what the link I posted is about!

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 14:18

I’m just saying it's another opinion (and not one I necessarily agree with). You originally posted your opinion as if it were a clear fact. It's not

Who are you addressing here?

MrsOfBebbanburg · 26/05/2020 14:19

if you honestly believe she said that in order to provide a description.

They don’t. They’re being totally disingenuous when they say it was a descriptor. They know it wasn’t. They know exactly what it was. They’re fooling no-one by pretending otherwise. We all see them.

totallyyesno · 26/05/2020 14:20

Racism is far more common and therefore has to be the priority.
Priority over what? Are you saying that it is ok to do whatever you like if your goal is to eliminate racism? Because that sounds more like anarchy.

zscaler · 26/05/2020 14:20

@totallyyesno so were you just playing devil’s advocate when you suggested that calling our racism might stir up racial tension?

In which case you might want to remind yourself that the devil doesn’t need an advocate, and it’s ok not to take the position of a hypothetical racist just to add flavour to a discussion of a real life incident in which a black person was actually threatened.

Duggeehugs82 · 26/05/2020 14:20

Well he is glad he did video and so am i , cannot believe some posters saying how awful it was he videoed her , its a dam good job he did with what she said and did! Shocking behaviour, i doubt she will stop being racist though just she gpt caught, like someone said if i was an American black man i wouldnt feel safe without a body cam on me permanently! The racism is shocking! And disgusting

b0redb0redb0red · 26/05/2020 14:20

Thank you, Nancydrawn - that is an absolutely heartbreaking post and I completely agree with you.

AgeLikeWine · 26/05/2020 14:21

If Mr Cooper hadn’t filmed this lying racist bitch, what would she have accused him of?

Would the racist bitch have lied that he molested her?

Would the racist bitch have lied that he tried to rape her?

DivaLasVegas · 26/05/2020 14:21

We have our own nasty racists in the UK but I don't understand why the US seems to have a special kind of vile hatred towards African Americans.

When I watched that video the first thing that came to my mind was the scene in Gone With the Wind when Scarlett O'Hara ventures into a dodgy area and is surrounded by African Americans, subsequently faints at the thought of what they could do and then all the white men go out to clear up that neighbourhood later that night. For me, it seems that the USA has not moved forward at all since the 18th Century.

I'd really like someone to explain to me why how the racism in the US is different to what we have here.

"An African American man is threatening me" - It's like a reverse race card and pretty despicable.

VladmirsPoutine · 26/05/2020 14:21

I am also shocked at the sexist, ageist term Karen. I call it out.

And I call out Karens. So have fun over there being offended by the term but apparently completely fine with the behaviour of said Karens. Imagine that - a Karen tried to get a black man killed and you're more offended that she was called a Karen. That is probably chapter 2 in the Karen handbook!

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 14:22

@totallyyesno that link makes no mention of death threats?

Laaf80 · 26/05/2020 14:22

@totallyyesno if that is to me, then my comment included two questions. I wasn’t stating a fact. I wondered and continue to do so, how you think this scenario can stoke racial tensions.

In general I don’t like doxxing. However I also sympathise with victims of racial discrimination/abuse, especially in cases such as this where it can cause harm to an innocent.

Thank god he filmed it.

MaxNormal · 26/05/2020 14:22

Seriously, there's people defending this??
I hope she's sacked, she could have got than man killed. And I hope she never has so much as a goldfish in her care again.

totallyyesno · 26/05/2020 14:25

@zscaler

You seem to determined to see racists everywhere. My opinion is that shaming on social media is wrong and, like vigilantism, can have unexpected consequences - including increasing racism. This doesn't mean we don't call out racism but it does mean that we don't try and burn people at the stake because we think we are automatically on the side of the righteous. That way madness lies.

MagentaRocks · 26/05/2020 14:25

It’s a good thing he was filming or anything could have happened. She could have continued with her story about being threatened by the African American man. If It was a white male would she have said I am being threatened by a white man? I doubt it. If I was ringing the police because I was in fear I don’t think the first thing I would say is the race of the other person, of course I would when it got to giving a description but it seems clear that she was trying to put fear into him.

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 14:25

Priority over what? Are you saying that it is ok to do whatever you like if your goal is to eliminate racism? Because that sounds more like anarchy.

No, I’m saying that I’m not going to stop calling out racism because a man in Israel committed suicide for reasons unknown and guesses. Sounds like that’s the only link you can dig up.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 26/05/2020 14:27

You seem to determined to see racists everywhere

It's not hard to see. Plenty here for a start!

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 14:31

@totallyyesno who has presented opinions as facts? Examples

DeeCeeCherry · 26/05/2020 14:31

This reminds me of women being encouraged not to report rape because it could harm the poor wittle menz career and life forever

Yes.

I recall when Liam Neeson made racist comments on wanting to kill a black man, and also sexist comments, on FB posts women who'd been quite vocal in support of the #meetoo movement were defending him.

White Women's weaponized tears and exercising white privilege in order to feel like a 'somebody' is more important than anything for those mindsets.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/05/2020 14:31

You seem to determined to see racists everywhere

WTF Hmm

C8H10N4O2 · 26/05/2020 14:31

You seem to determined to see racists everywhere

There are racists everywhere.

My opinion is that shaming on social media is wrong

Issuing racist threats to life is also wrong.

Let me guess, two wrongs don't make a white?

Duggeehugs82 · 26/05/2020 14:31

I disagree with this all that is happening that isnt happening now is everyone is able to see racism as it happens due to social media, i mean obviously an normal person doesnt send the racist person death threats, but its about being held accountable, which filming as incident shows. Its not abut being righteous its about calling some out when we see it.
