To be furious BIL is making us look bad to save his skin?

BIL and his wife have a 4yo. They went to stay on his parents estate 5 hours drive away breaking all lockdown rules. Because of his high profile job in government this has become something of an issue.

In order to defend the trip he's telling the papers that they had no choice, they were worried that they would both become so ill they couldn't care for DN and had to go so far to be near suitable childcare.

We live around the corner. Of course, in the unlikely event that BIL and SIL both became so unwell they couldn't care for him, we'd have looked after him.

I don't know if they think we'd we unwilling or we are unsuitable but they didn't even ask.

AIBU to be furious this is the story he's using to justify his actions?

Grin Sorry, I'll get my coat....

Go onto your local radio and have your say why come on an anonymous forum when everyone knows who you are talking about.

Friendsofmine · 26/05/2020 14:19

I just emailed my MP about your BIL. I said you were perfectly willing to help!

cornish009 · 26/05/2020 14:30

Why has "BE KIND" become such an agressive and nasty phrase?

LillianBland · 26/05/2020 14:40

Why has "BE KIND" become such an agressive and nasty phrase?

It’s strikes me as there always being an unspoken “or else!” after it.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/05/2020 14:49

As most people consider themselves to be kind, being instructed to do so can feel like an attack. I'm not a big fan TBH, I think don't be a dick is better as people are more willing to admit to occasional dickish behaviour.

slipperywhensparticus · 26/05/2020 15:02

I am being kind satcastic but still kind unlike the people threatening to kill because they disagree with what is said the bishop of Worcester (I think he is the bishop now I've lost track) has had death threats over this since when has that been acceptable behaviour

LillianBland · 26/05/2020 15:07

Now, that I could get behind. 😁

Be Kind thing is a dig at Melania Trump, no? Her whole 'Be Best' thing, considering the bully she married.

Wasnt be kind from Caroline Flack?

In a world where you can be anything, be kind

ScarletFever · 27/05/2020 08:17

@InfiniteSheldon

I've emailed my MP. I included screenshot of the goaders asking others to do so on here and reminded him we have Government by election not by Social Media.
Did you vote for Dominic?

Yes, what could be more reprehensible than suggesting people engage with democracy rather than just moaning? I feel ashamed.

Ravenclawgirl · 27/05/2020 08:50

Clearly he didn't trust you took look after his child and was willing to break the guidelines and undertake a five hour drive to make sure he wouldn't be in that position.

Pacmanitee · 27/05/2020 08:54

All those who voted for DC should be ashamed.

Oh wait...Confused

Inoneminute · 27/05/2020 09:11

Hahaha. Isn't suggesting SM opinions don't count exactly what they are accused of - believing that the opinions and lives of the little people don't matter? Thankfully the MPs know they matter very much indeed, which is why they used SM so much in their campaigns.

If others hadn't mobilised to "incite" public action/opinion women still wouldn't have the vote and frankly, we wouldn't have Brexit either.

Thanks Iwanttobreakfree, I didn't understand any of this hoo-ha until you explained it really well. All I saw was a bald man wafting a Finding Dory ball around. But I am in Germany and feel isolated as I can't visit my UK home.

12345ct · 27/05/2020 09:33

Grow up OP it's becoming embarrassing.

typewrriter12 · 27/05/2020 10:46

i wish i had time to sit on my laptop and complain about other people ohh wait i am!!!!!!!!?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Friendsofmine · 27/05/2020 11:28

I completely agree OP. People telling other people to shut up and get over it is why it took so long for women to be allowed their own bank accounts, to consent to their own medical procedures (instead of their husband or father) and much more.

Social media is being used to defend, why can't it be used to critique and debate too!

The irony of someone defending Cummings saying SM doesn’t matter. You don’t know who he is obviously.
