AIBU?

To be furious BIL is making us look bad to save his skin?

BIL and his wife have a 4yo. They went to stay on his parents estate 5 hours drive away breaking all lockdown rules. Because of his high profile job in government this has become something of an issue.

In order to defend the trip he's telling the papers that they had no choice, they were worried that they would both become so ill they couldn't care for DN and had to go so far to be near suitable childcare.

We live around the corner. Of course, in the unlikely event that BIL and SIL both became so unwell they couldn't care for him, we'd have looked after him.

I don't know if they think we'd we unwilling or we are unsuitable but they didn't even ask.

AIBU to be furious this is the story he's using to justify his actions?

Grin Sorry, I'll get my coat....

Bloody hilarious!

If DC can sit there and treat us like idiots he can take us taking the piss

Oh FGS, he's one man, he is no worse than the dickheads milling about on beaches over the weekend.

I think you are forgetting that the "dickheads" on the beach don't write government policy, don't advise the Prime Minister, and don't attend SAGE. Although given the complete bloody mess that the government has made of all this, perhaps they should, because they couldn't possibly do a worse job.

People comment to say how pointless/tedious this is becoming because there is no mention of the name in the thread title. It potentially looks like a genuine AIBU from the thread title and therefore people will click on it.

And while people are harping on and on and on about DC plans are still going ahead to open schools, non essential shops are to re-open, the stats are still happening every day but all that, you know, the actually relevant stuff, is being overlooked because of this.

I don’t agree with him either but it is what it is. He’s not going to resign or be sacked, and that will need to come up in the inevitable enquiry.

But it’s time to bloody move on.

Crikey @Bloomburger it's clearly a joke. The irony of you asking people if they have forgotten the phrase Be Kind while telling them not to be 'fucking nasty' (when actually, they weren't) is not lost on most people.

You may be a DC fangirl, but lots of people aren't. It's mumsnet, people take the piss and (most) have a sense of humour.

How bad do things have to be before your own supporters try to defend you by saying you're the same as all the other "dickheads"? Grin

If only those other dickheads were writing government policy.....

We have babysat in the past, but I'm a bit busy these days helping facilitate the new track and trace app some friends of my brothers want to use..
Otherwise I'd have gladly babysat

Ha Ha thank you made me laugh - valid question this though if DC couldn't look after a 4 year old with his wife ill he clearly is unfit to run the country through his puppet Boris?

Why do we have to move on from something that was in the news cycle this morning? It is still big news!

Of course they want us to move on - then they can treat us like idiots again - ask us to move on - treat us like idiots again and so on

To all those telling us to move on, thanks for your advice but I'll move on when I'm ready to. Which is not yet

Do you remember the phrase Be Kind?

Take the higher ground and stop being so fucking nasty.

Every time a Cummings defender uses this phrase I burst into laughter.

People have long memories when it comes to this type of thing. The news will move on but he'll always be Dominic Goings the career psychopath who tests out his eyesight with a family drive to Bernard Castle.

For those people saying "he is no worse than the covidiots on the beach" oh yes he is. They didnt get paid to be consultants and advisors to the PM and set the rules.

And the fact that the beaches have only just started to be packed shows they have been keeping to the rules until the weekend. Umm, wonder what could have made people think "what's the point?" at the weekend Hmm

YANBU - you were perfectly right to ignore family living close by and get out of London. It’s not like you had almost unlimited resources and help from the upper echelons of government to fall back on if things got sticky.

You just love your child a bit more than us mere mortals do.

I have to go now OP. I’m going to test my hearing by blindfolding myself and stepping out into the middle of a busy road.

@Bloomburger, except this happened in March when the hospitals were overwhelmed and the R and Death rate were at its highest. Care and key workers were dying daily, just doing their jobs.

Women were posting on here about moving in with parents because they had postnatal depression and were really struggling, yet getting castigated.

People were being fined for sitting down while out and even in their front gardens. People were questioned by police about what was in their shopping baskets and shops were told to take Easter Eggs off sale.

Children died and were buried alone. People committed suicide, people died because the couldn't see a Doctor.

So it is very different than what's happened at the weekend, now we are easing out of lock down.

@CrazyTimesAreComing

You didn't see all the media reports about packed beaches early last week? And the threads about it on MN?

Southend beach was like a bank holiday last wednesday.

We get it, you think DC is a dick.

What about all the millions of people who flocked to the coast last week and sat around in huge groups with zero social distancing?
