I thought he styled it out

You know, I don’t think calling it this makes lying through your teeth and insulting the intelligence of the voting public any better.

Do you? Confused

Aretheystillasleepbob · 26/05/2020 08:35

And what about the family who's child died alone. Did they have no parental 'instincts' then?

Inoneminute · 26/05/2020 08:36

I'd be right pissed off if I was SIL, having the whole nation told I was unwilling/unable to help care for my nephew, in a dire medical emergency affecting both of his parents. Can you image the AIBU? Grin

Mmsnet101 · 26/05/2020 08:36

His wife could drive! No chance would I get in a car with my young DC and allow my other half to 'test his eyesight' by driving 60miles, under any circumstances!

I expected him to be a more polished and a better liar, but frankly it was just ridiculous. He played a few good PR tricks, making it so long that a lot of people will have got bored and switched off. Then lining up a load of journalists to question him, which gets him sympathy for appearing to be picked on.

We had a similar situation at the start of lockdown in Scotland with Catherine Calderwood, an advisor who helped set the rules who then travelled to her second home. She was outed as she was stalked by a journalist from the sun. She resigned immediately. The Scottish tories were all over this and saying it'll damage public confidence in the rules etc... Yet all are silent now. Hypocrisy of the highest order, but unfortunately we now expect it from Westminster so it'll blow over.

rogueantimatter · 26/05/2020 08:36

He came over to me as someone without the capacity to take personal responsibility or have self awareness. As PP have said, he was full of excuses and trying to elicit sympathy. He demonstrated no loyalty to the PM and tried to blame the media for having to leave his London home. I was disgusted by his attempt to get sympathy by stating there were threats of violence against him which made him fearful for his wife and child. Remember the response given by the PM to the female labour MP beseeching him to tone down his language in the face of more and more threats? "Humbug". If this was the reason he felt the need to go to his ancestral pile it's a completely different story, one that wasn't reported. And it makes no sense anyway when you consider that he subsequently returned to his London home with his wife and child.

He appears to have added a section on Coronavirus to his 2019 blog in April or May 2020.

He should have acknowledged that he is exceptionally fortunate to have an available empty property beside his family and he should have made a lot of the fact that most other people suffered very badly.

His claim to not remember whether he stopped for petrol on the way south is ridiculous. Given the public's fury you'd think he would have wracked his brains to go over every detail and remember the last time the car was filled with petrol.

The Barnard Castle excuse is also ridiculous.

He tried to make out he's hard done by and heroic for working hard in this emergency. He tried to make out he's indispensable.

I was alternating between amusement and disgust.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/05/2020 08:36

If someone had posted on mumsnet ’I’ve just thrown up and feel really really shit is it covid?’ they would have been told of course not and to stop being so attention seeking.

Really? I am on mumsnet a lot. Way before the schools closed, I was aware of this as being a symptom. It was discussed on these boards.

Sadly it is painfully obvious mumsnetters pay more attention than the government to the people’s health. They’ve only just added the loss of taste and smell to the list of symptoms weeks after it was identified.

CricketCrocket · 26/05/2020 08:37

He’s taking the piss and loving it. Who in their right mind would drive 60 miles, with their wife and child in the car, to test their eyesight?

I’m surprised he could read that part of his statement out loud without laughing tbh.

ITonyah · 26/05/2020 08:37

LaurieMarlow

Hold on...you mean..this thread isn't a genuine attempt to discover if people are angry with DC?

You mean...it might be just a smokescreen to berate anyone who doesn't agree with the Mumsnet hive mind?!?

Quelle surprise!

LaurieMarlow · 26/05/2020 08:37

Why isn't Dominic Cummings subject to the same process as someone who speeds, or who gets caught smoking weed, or who evades their taxes?

Because he ‘styled it out’ (aka blatantly lied) and that makes it ok apparently. Or something.

People are so fundamentally fucked up.

lilgreen · 26/05/2020 08:39

I was thinking the worst thing was that he took the virus miles away to a low rate of virus area and broke lockdown. Now I know he’s an absolute idiot and worse still, he thinks we are.

zscaler · 26/05/2020 08:39

The eyesight test drive is so ridiculous it has to be true.

The lack of sense / logic exhibited by this statement is baffling.

Mumratheevergiving · 26/05/2020 08:39

His family put their ‘needs’, although let’s face it was actually their preferences, above the good of the public by not staying put in London. Matt Hancock tweeted yesterday that we should ‘move on’ with no word of reproach despite the fact the Cummings family toured their Covid experience up to the north east and put at risk health care workers and other patients in the hospital they visited there. Fairly obvious who Hancock thinks in expendable and who isn’t!

Aretheystillasleepbob · 26/05/2020 08:39

'I thought he styled it out'

I drove 60 miles to test my eyesight, THAT's styling it out. He's a bullshitting liar who probably wanted to come out and say. 'Do you KNOW who I am? I can do what the fuck I like.' but was persuaded otherwise...

LaurieMarlow · 26/05/2020 08:40

You mean...it might be just a smokescreen to berate anyone who doesn't agree with the Mumsnet hive mind?!?

I didn’t start the thread. 🤷‍♀️

I am however, immensely interested in the psychology of someone who knows they’re being shamelessly and obviously lied to by their government and thinks that’s ok. Blows my mind.

ITonyah · 26/05/2020 08:40

He's being investigated by the police and will get a fine if it's decided he was in breach of the law.

Aretheystillasleepbob · 26/05/2020 08:41

My favourite part of the whole conference was the smug little grin he did as he walked off. Google it, treat yourselves.

LaurieMarlow · 26/05/2020 08:41

He’s taking the piss and loving it

Yup.

Greenpop21 · 26/05/2020 08:41

Senior adviser at no 10 can’t get :
1- security help at his address
2- online food shopping
3- test for covid
Hmm

Inoneminute · 26/05/2020 08:41

Calderwood really didn't resign immediately. To begin with there was an excruciating press conference where she tried to justify her actions and a show of support from NS. She only resigned when it came out that there had been more than one trip.

LovingitlikeTHIS · 26/05/2020 08:41

I've seen people on MN saying a runny nose and sore throat was probably CV. And someone who had sore muscles after exercising was told it could be CV too Hmm

EveryoneLoves09876 · 26/05/2020 08:42

Never liked the guy politically but was on the fence with this issue. Post rose garden? He should be fired. Such blatant lying on so many levels.

LaurieMarlow · 26/05/2020 08:42

He's being investigated by the police and will get a fine if it's decided he was in breach of the law.

I also think Social Services should look into the man who decides to ‘test his eyesight’ by bundling his small child in the car and drive 30 miles.

wonderstuff · 26/05/2020 08:42

Gove now saying his wife was I'll but they didn't suspect covid, therefore fine to return to downing street? No integrity between the lot of them. Feels like we're being collectively gas lighted

ITonyah · 26/05/2020 08:43

No she didn't.

MaeveDidIt · 26/05/2020 08:43

He broke lockdown rules.

He is a very weak character for not putting his hands up, but he's in too deep now with all of his ridiculous bullshit which just makes him look stupid.
