If non essential shops can open

I missed briefing today as I'm a bit fed up watching them all tbh
I knew June would see the opening of some non essential shops etc but was hoping when this happened that we would see a little more relaxation in meeting friends or family ? But I can't see that anything was mentioned
Aibu that going to see some friends /family social distancing outside is more important than being able to go to primark for example ( although could do with some new clothes as mine have all shrunk during lockdown )
I preferred Ireland's meeting up to 4 so much better than our meet one other
When will we be given a little more freedom to meet some family / friends ?

IIRC the stuff about family might be revealed this week. Shops opening isn't until the 15/6.

I think it's coming soon. I think they'll drip feed in good news over the next few days to distract us from the Dominic Cummings stuff.

Schools yesterday, shops today, maybe social bubbles tomorrow?!

That was only a 'sneak preview' of what's to come this week.

However, even if they say it's ok to meet with F&F you need to social distance and be extremely careful. Family is the easiest route for the virus to travel.

Why do people keep asking this question?

EVERYTHING needs to get back to normal.

That includes shops. Even if you don’t want to go to them. They still need to open, the people who work there need jobs and need paid, stock needs shifted, etc etc.

Why do people act so bemused about it? Obviously human to human interaction is going to be the last piece in the puzzle.

It isn't about what's important, it's about transmission.

I haven't fully stuck to the guidance. But sitting talking for more than 10 minutes, indoors, means that if anyone is infectious, there's a good chance of it being passed on. Personally if i had older parents, I'd still be seeing them from a distance. Likewise new babies (through windows etc).

It's ridiculous not to meet up outdoors, but we can sit on crowded buses.

With friends / family would of been a bigger distraction as this is what most are missing , but Ireland were quiteon the ball with meeting up to 4 outside .I think as at least gives you a chance to meet up and especially a single parent with maybe one or two little ones who currently can't meet any friend and I understand for people shielding etc they may need to be protected more

@sadis789 I never said things need to not get back to normal although it isn't normal it's still with social distancing so why not meeting friends / families outside as I mentioned and still following social distancing . Ireland do groups 4 other countries have other numbers
I'm not expecting to be able to go round my nans and hug her or have a family party for all just a slight easing on the relaxations
I'm expected to send my son to school and I will be doing so , I go to the shops as I used my own judgement but social interactions are important for wellbeing

Tbh OP I think the number of people actually sticking to the one on one thing is quite low (if my local area is anything to go by). Particularly, in the case of single mums/people with young babies. I think most people are interpreting it as one family and one family rather than one single person and one other single person.

Shops had to be told now so's they could get prepared.

I'm sure they'll be more 'social' news soon.

OP you are looking at this from the POV of a consumer. But on the other side of this is the people whose income, livelihood and precious business rely on reopening shops.

These people cannot wfh so as soon as it's safe to do so it's only fair to allow them to work and get paid.

Shops will be required to take measures to be as safe as possible, and as such shopping should be low risk. Personally I will only be shopping where I feel happy with the measures in place.

I accept that many people won't want to visit shops and that is understandable, but others will want to and this will be what offers a lifeline to many many people who are currently terrified about loosing their jobs.

@nannyogg yes appreciate woth shops but many have started opening anyway matalan , dunhelm etc and he did always say June would see opening of non essential shops unless obviously virus was increasing so I'm guessing most are getting prepared for this and we kind of know what it looks like as they can follow the supermarkets , corner shops etc

@peoplepleaser1 I have no issue in going to a shop myself that's not what I'm saying but the reality lots can't get back to their jobs as they have no childcare schools are not fully open and they can't use family .
I appreciate shops need to open as well and supposedly it may be pubs etc next if numbers continue falling etc but I also think increasing our social circle has to come into it as well even just a slight improvement
Ireland seemed to of done it well with the meeting upto 4 people to start off with .

Believe me I understand getting the economy back up as well , I also lost my job due to working in a non essential shop office of which I hadn't long strayed so not entitled to furlough etc so I'm not immune to the loosing money side of it either

strugglingwithdeciding shops and businesses need to open so people can earn money to buy food and pay rent. This is more urgent than visiting family etc.

@Lasttraimeast but what about those parents who have no childcare that can't return to these shops as many will be working mothers etc

Because there has been literally no official information from Westminster or Downing Street about meeting up with loved ones. Boris made a big speech setting out his phases and didn't even mention it.

That's what most people are missing most of all. Tell us if it's more risky to meet family than go clothes shopping. Tell us if it's thought it won't be safe to see grandparents for months. Just fucking tell us. Don't tell us about fucking football.

It's callous and heartless to talk about the economy and schools and not even mention that people want to see their parents.

Also at no point have I said shops shouldn't open just if they are why can't we also have a slight easing in meeting friends and family

He said he was announcing non essential shops now to give them time to plan.

Social bubbles or small meetings won't need any plans.

But the transmission of this virus is person to person, so is it not fairly obvious opening the flood gates of social mixing is going to be the last part of the plan?

Most of these shops would of been planning anyway as he said next stage would be to allow these to open in June back when they announced the long term plan as such , like he said for pubs in July so I'm sure most are planning for that date , appreciate things could be held back if numbers go up

@Sadie789 some of the worst social distancing I have also seen is in the supermarkets and people browsing at clothes will prob be even worst
I'm not expecting to be able to invite half my family around and would still expect to have to social distance and for it to be outside
But my son will be going to school soon in a room with others for hrs a day potentially

An awful lot of shopworkers will only be able to return to work if they can use grandparents for childcare again. Certainly do and DIL won't be able to work if we can't have dgs like before lockdown. And no, they will not be able to use annual leave to help out as both employers made them take leave during lockdown so that they weren't faced with all employees trying to take a year's worth of leave as soon as shops re-open.

Obviously human to human interaction is going to be the last piece in the puzzle.

Because all of these things involve human to human interaction.
