Is it rough to leave period stairned sheets?

I sleep with my 2ur old and my dh sleeps in a separate room for now I have heavy periods which means despite wearing maxi pads and tampons combined I’ll always have a heavy night. I leave changing the sheets till my period has finished. Is this skany or ok?

Period pants + huge night time pad + super tampon.

After the really heavy first few nights, when you still need something, it’s actually so much more comfortable to sleep in just period pants with no hot and sticky pad moving about. They are so worth the investment for the improved sleep alone.

Everything else is your business.

Nottherealslimshady · 25/05/2020 22:44

@MaggyMaysBeenTakenAway same! I'm glad someone else said it first. We do have an extra cover for her that goes over ours but thats mainly because of her moulting to stop our bedding getting furry.

She's nearly 6 and has one nearly twice a year, shes not spayed because it increases the risk and a certain cancer that is already massive in her breed. It's the right decision for us, she was a right prick after her first and after every one she settles down and matures.
Apologies for the tangent dons hard hat over not spaying

MasterBruceBalloon · 25/05/2020 22:45

Have you tried tranexamic acid to reduce your bleeding?

CayrolBaaaskin · 25/05/2020 22:46

I didn’t think it’s as bad as all that to leave it a few days if it’s a few dried spots. It’s certainly not a health hazard.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 25/05/2020 22:48

I think that’s vile to be honest, if you’re the only one sleeping in the sheets I can see why you can’t be bothered. However as you’re sleeping with others you must change the sheets ASAP for hygiene reasons. Remember that menses aren’t just blood, it contains discharge too.

Once at uni, my flat mates and I had a sleepover in one of their rooms. Only to find that her bedding was covered in her period blood. She couldn’t be bothered to wash her sheets because we were moving out soon and bar that night, she was the only one in her room so wasn’t fussed. She hadn’t washed her bedding in months and we were just lying in her filth and old menses😫

LuluJakey1 · 25/05/2020 22:48

Just info, it helped me- a low fat diet always reduces how heavy my periods are. I have no idea why but it does.

MaxNormal · 25/05/2020 22:52

Wouldn't bother me if it was my own, I'd happily leave a few spots for a couple of days.

Frogshoe · 25/05/2020 22:56

Get some bloom and nora night time cap pads and some period pants. I have horrendously heavy periods and my sheets have been clean since I bought these

Ineedcoffee2345 · 25/05/2020 22:57

Thats gross especially for your 2 year old. Try puppy training pad and maternity pads. I did this after both dds were born. Works well

maryd84 · 25/05/2020 22:58

This poster is so gross. A 30cm blood stain and she is asking if she should change the sheets WTFConfused

minielise · 25/05/2020 22:59

I used to be the same, rather than spoiling all of my bedding I would leave it on until the end! Whenever I would feel cramps coming on I would put my period bedding on. I use a cup now and I barely leak since, although I wear a pad as a back up still

zippyswife · 25/05/2020 23:05

I have the same problem OP. It’s crap isn’t it? I am utterly exhausted during each period and suffer from anaemia with it. I was advised to get the coil by my GP she says it will reduce the flow, but the coronavirus has put a stop on that plan for now.
I don’t change my sheets during my period unless there’s lots of blood as I’m generally too exhausted from the period itself and don’t need the extra hassle. You must be shattered with a two year old too. Give yourself a break.

Elizabella · 25/05/2020 23:06

Tranexamic acid is what you need. You shouldn't be bleeding like that.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 25/05/2020 23:10

It's late so I've not rtft, OP, but have you checked your iron levels? Low iron can mean periods are excessively heavy.

I'd not worry about the sheets, fwiw.

unchienandalusia · 25/05/2020 23:10

Sorry but that is grim!! I have one really heavy night each period and sleep on one of those night pads for children (plus tampax and ginormous sanitary pad)

lavenderlove · 25/05/2020 23:12

Could you put a puppy training pad under a towel to sleep on? They are quite big and really absorbent it won't leak through to the sheet underneath. Also cheap for a big pack!

billy1966 · 25/05/2020 23:16

Sounds tough OP,
Toddler night time nappies cut open really give great coverage.

Sleeping on the toddler disposable training sheets mean if you have leakage during the night your bedding is fine.

Homemade liver pate is a great food to help you build up your ferritin reseves.
It freezes well if you make small tubs.
Great on toast for a snack.

Dried apricots are also good for iron.

Drinking a couple of mouthfuls of any orange juice when you eat meat increases your iron absorption.

HowManyToes · 25/05/2020 23:20

Get some period pants, they are such a lifesaver at night when you're period is heavy. I got mine in a pack of 5 from Amazon. They're not absorbent like the modi-bodi ones linked above (it sounds like you're to heavy for that anyway) but they are leak proof which is amazing. Before then I used to sleep on a puppy training pad during my period 😂 we had lots left from house training our pup so I put them to good use! Probably much cheaper to buy than incontinence pads

cathcath2 · 25/05/2020 23:21

I would definitely get some disposable or washable kylies (incontinence pads). They are fab to have in the house anyway and will come in handy for potty training for your two year old. I must buy some more disposables actually - great for beds/floors when anyone is poorly!

HowManyToes · 25/05/2020 23:21

*your not you're, I do know the difference - honest! 😆

BrummyMum1 · 25/05/2020 23:22

I am a menorrhagia sufferer on blood thinning medication. I used to wear maternity pads as standard and even those were about as useful as sticking a plaster on a gunshot wound. Seriously you need the mirena coil, it’s life changing.

indemMUND · 25/05/2020 23:31

No, I wouldn't leave that. Any extreme bodily fluid, sweat, wee, blood. If you know it's going to happen max out on preventing leakage. It's not impossible. Certainly wouldn't expect my kid to sleep in

krispycreme · 25/05/2020 23:31

I put a hand towel down, if I leek the towel goes straight in the wash and replaced with a fresh one.

TehBewilderness · 25/05/2020 23:32

I am so sorry you have such heavy periods.

Years ago I used draw sheets because an IUD I received after my 2nd child was born caused me to have periods that were gushers from hell.

Electrical · 25/05/2020 23:48

My periods were hell until I just took the pill without the hormone withdrawal bleed. There’s no need for it, the man who invented the pill thought women would go insane without a bleed, so said to not take it for 7 days after each packet. Nahhhh. No kid, no periods= bliss. OP, you need to see a doctor, you don’t have to live like this.
