Is it rough to leave period stairned sheets?

I sleep with my 2ur old and my dh sleeps in a separate room for now I have heavy periods which means despite wearing maxi pads and tampons combined I’ll always have a heavy night. I leave changing the sheets till my period has finished. Is this skany or ok?

I used towels, double up on knickers, pads and tampons. Gross.

Justgorgeous · 25/05/2020 23:59

@MaggyMaysBeenTakenAway Can’t you hand wash and dry in the sun ? Surely that’s pretty unhygienic? I know you don’t care what people think but..........

MissJaneLockland · 26/05/2020 00:00

Low iron can mean periods are excessively heavy.

Isn't it the heavy periods that cause the low iron?

h3av3n · 26/05/2020 00:23

I don't think it's rough... I used to have really heavy periods and it isn't realistic to constantly wash and change the sheets...

MasterBruceBalloon · 26/05/2020 00:30

@MissJaneLockland yes heavy menstrual bleeding commonly (and understandably) causes iron deficiency

GrolliffetheDragon · 26/05/2020 00:36

How do people get towels to stay in place while they're lying on them? If I started out lying on something it wouldn't stay in place.

Anyway, yeah, couple of drops I'd leave it until the end of my period, particularly in winter as I don't have a tumble dryer and if it happened two or three nights in a row out would cause problems. Big leak and I'd have to change the bedding next morning.

Period pants are no good for me, they give me thrush, as does nearly everything Angry

This is what I don’t get either. Plus they’re bumpy. I like long and wide bed pad.

alexdgr8 · 26/05/2020 00:40

can't you get those conti sheets from boots, which are disposable, and easy to change even during the night.

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 00:44

@alexdg8 they’re useless, too small

LevoMental · 26/05/2020 00:47

I would get incontinence bed pads. If you can't be arsed properly changing the bed all the time, buy a few cheap bottom sheets just for when you're on.

Do a few layers - sheet, pad, sheet, pad, sheet, pad. Take the top sheet and pad off each morning, revealing fresh sheet and pad for the next night -stick dirty ones in a bag then wash them all at once at the end of your period.

Lynda07 · 26/05/2020 00:48

I used to have flooding but would put bedclothes in washing machine in morning, don't see why you can't.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 26/05/2020 00:58

Presumably you change your nightclothes if you leak OP? Surely you can put the sheet in the wash at the same time?

I used to have ridiculously heavy periods - no way I could have left a blood stained sheet on for the next night 😖

THEDEACON · 26/05/2020 01:28

Iused to have the same prob I left sheets on I got a Mirena problem solved Don't just put up with heavy periods OP they rule and ruin your life Had Mirenas now 21 years life transformed

1forAll74 · 26/05/2020 01:28

Not a nice thing to leave stained sheets, for you.or a child in bed with you... Use some towels, old ones if you have any.

AlrightBabby · 26/05/2020 01:38

you can get a big pack of puppy pads for £2 in Poundland, that'll do the trick

OptimisticSix · 26/05/2020 01:40

It's just blood, as a pp said, don't ask others to judge, if you're happy, who cares

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 26/05/2020 01:42

Can you buy those maternity mats and put them on your bed, Boots sells them, may save you trouble.

Whycantibetangy · 26/05/2020 02:04

Yeah change your sheets you mucky mare, then go see your GP for tranxemic acid. Changed my life. I used to change mooncup plus night time pad, get the bus to work, arrive half hour later and need to change clothes as soaked through. I really don't think people who haven’t experienced severe menorrahea understand just how bad it is. You may also need iron tabs due to blood loss

Five pounds. I bet that's not even the cheapest either.

JazzyTetra · 26/05/2020 02:39

Fresh towel on the bed each night to save your sheets

FiveShelties · 26/05/2020 02:51

30cm square - that is a big area, I definitely could not leave that. If you are being serious, you need to see your GP.

kmc1111 · 26/05/2020 03:00

When I had super heavy periods I used to wear incontinence underwear to bed at night, in addition to a tampon. Works much better than even the biggest overnight pad and does a lot better at keeping any leaks contained.

alexdgr8 · 26/05/2020 03:20

yes that's a good idea, the most absorbant conti pads have a kind of built-in belt arrangement, which help to keep it in place, and the coverage should be more than you need.
they are not cheap, but worth it.
alsoa the conti bed/ seat pads i am talking about usually are 60x 60 cm or 60x90 cm. that ought to be wide enough.
the puppy pads are cheap and good as stand-by, but may not be thick enough.
i really don't think you should leave a bed in that state, esp if shared with anyone, let alone a small child, who might be quite upset if they glimpse it.

Durgasarrow · 26/05/2020 03:26

It is a little disgusting, honestly.

mathanxiety · 26/05/2020 05:26

generally too exhausted from the period itself and don’t need the extra hassle. You must be shattered with a two year old too. Give yourself a break.

Nice to see some kindness on the thread.

Well said, @zippyswife.
